I knew I wasn't sleeping, but I also wasn't in the comfort of my own living room or under the warmth of my blanket. I was somewhere dark— pitch-black to be exact because I couldn't see a single thing. I assumed I was on the ground, it was incredibly cold and I had nothing on but a pair of shorts and a loose t-shirt.

I kneeled and curled into a ball—forehead on the freezing floor—hoping that I would open my eyes and I would be next to Elise, but upon opening them, there was still nothing but darkness surrounding me. I could feel my eyes watering, the desperation for this to be simply a dream getting to me.
