Chapter 31: Ungrateful

In a blink of an eye. It's November and the winter season is at its peak.

Lucis rarely came outside and even if he go outside, he only stay in his house to meet Suyi for a chat or meal. Seclusion without contact to the outside world is not something Lucis can do. although he is introvert, staying in his cave all the time would drive him insane.

The Vesta flower is in full bloom in his house. Suyi diligently taking care of it and add magic stone once in a while under Lucis instructions.

Lucis storage dimension have more space than before too, the cylinder space is now 600 meter long and 50 meter wide. He spend most of his time cultivating this skill in seclusion than cultivating his energy.

As for his energy, he hit the 1000 mark and stop cultivating it since a week ago. He's on the 34 floor at this moment and it's look like he need to move down one more level since his cultivating has been slow down a lot.

Lucis sit in front of the fireplace in his house revising his plan.

"mister Lucis, you're early." Suyi step in the house wearing thick clothes wrapping on her body. Some of the snow flew in as the door open.

"Suyi, how are you and your brother?" Lucia glance at her before returning his gaze at the fireplace.

"we're in good condition and have enough food to spare thanks to mister Lucis." Suyi look healthy and full of energy even in this cold winter compare other villager.

"nevermind that" Lucis wave his hand. " I'm going to the murky town, do you have anything you need?"

"ah." Suyi stunned by the sudden change on Lucis. She's used to how Lucis always stay nearby and talk to her.

"how long you will be away?" she's feel a bit hesitant to separate with Lucis. They've been spending time together for quite some time now.

"Erm.. I think there's no difference than usual. I can be here by sundown." for a cultivator like Lucis. 100km is a short distance with his flying sword. He's been tempering the solidus sword for a while now and can't wait to try it.

"oh." Suyi smile again and feeling at ease when she heard it.

"I've heard rumors from the villager that they're a war going on right now. Maybe it's not a good time to travel for the time being mister Lucis."

"Hm, tell me about it" Lucis look at Suyi as he make some space for her to warm up at the fireplace.

"aah, don't worry about it. Right, tell me the news around the village, what did I missed during my seclusion." Lucis quickly wave his hand and change topic. He have heard about this for quite some times now among the villagers and already have some countermeasure.

Suyi hesitated a bit and want to continue to convince Lucis to delay his plan but the words just won't came out of her mouth.

"Erm, there's some people that start having problem about food recently in the village. The new resident doesn't have enough supplies when they get here"

Lucis nod and refused to add comment on it. He gave them what he can before winter but they just gave it away again to the new villagers and now they don't have enough supply for themselves.

He's not a saint and not the village chief either. It's not his responsibility to take care everyone in the village. The villagers is not even helping him in any way they can. If not for Suyi, his house is already collapse at this time.

During this time, there's a lot of people ridiculed Suyi for taking care Lucis house. They're worried that she waste her own resources on an empty house that no one living in it.

"well.. Elder Dun granddaughter will get married with Konan early next year." Suyi look at Lucis expression trying to read any hint on him about this news. After all, Dini is the closest person to Lucis when he just arrived in this village. A lot of people believe that Lucis gonna marry Dini.

Lucis just nod casually like its a passing news. He's not even slightly care about it.

"that's good. Including them, all the youngsters in the village will be married come next year. Is this some kind of tradition in this village?"

Before Suyi manage to answer him, Lucis speak again: "right, when it's your turn. Are going to get married early next year too?" Lucis say it casually but Suyi taking it more seriously than him.

"err.. I don't think anyone want to marry me." Suyi force a smile and try to make it sounds like a joke.

Lucis look at her a bit and look at the fire back with a calm expression. Either Suyi doesn't want to marry because she wanted to focus on taking care her brothers or she's just not confident enough that anyone like her.

Lucis clap his hand and stand up. "let's go pick up my clothes at uncle Kunan house. I'll walk you to your house after that, I'm going that way anyway."

"you.. You going outside?" Suyi surprised hearing that. Lucis never step out all this time during this daylight and today he suddenly want to came out.

"I'm going to town, how am I gonna go there without going outside?" Lucis laugh and shake his head.

Suyi quickly splash some water to the fireplace and follow Lucis outside.

As they make their way towards Kunan house, some people surprised looking at Suyi walking beside Lucis. A person they haven't seen for a couple of months already.

"I'll stay here, help me fetch my jacket." Lucis stop right outside the fence of Kunan house.

Some people pop out their head from their house looking at Lucis and making an 'o' expression.

"isn't that mister Lucis? When did he came back?" the elder next door surprised with Lucis sudden appearance.

Luckily, most people stay indoors during this time or a commotion will ensure.

Suddenly a middle age man came running from his house towards Lucis.

"mister Lucis. You came back." Kunan jog towards Lucis in a hurry. Suyi look at him with surprised.

Soon Yina came to door and stunned looking at Lucis too. She now look a lot more healthy than before and her beauty really shine like Dini. Her skin look like a boiled egg and her cheek is plum soft. Sadly, she completely forgotten about Lucis.

"uncle Kunan." Lucis smile faintly looking at Kunan walking weirdly in a hurry.

"I never left in the first place. I just live in the mountain since my house has collapsed before."

Kunan shocked by what Lucis said and suddenly remembered how Lucis house look like until Suyi fix it.

"ah, about that. We try to stop the people from taking the stuff inside but they thought you have left.." a cold sweat from Kunan face. "we're sorry." he quickly bow and lost any word to say.

Lucis wave his hand in dismiss. "no worry, they just let me borrow that stuff anyway. It's understandable if that want to take it back."

Kunan feel so embarrassed at this moment. The villagers gave that daily living things to Lucis after Lucis gave them a lot if food previously but after Lucis disappeared. They quickly take back their stuff.

"I... I.. I'll make sure that everyone will give you some compensation soon. I'll talk to Elder Dun and the other Elder about it, I.. " before Kunan can continue, Lucis quickly raise his hand stopping him. It his signature move to shut anyone that speaking to him since he arrived at this village.

"no, you don't have too. I don't need it anymore. Suyi already gave me everything I need." Lucis shake his head and look at Suyi.

"mister Lucis. Here's your jacket." Suyi gave Lucis the black jacket she got from Yina.

Lucis frown when he look at the jacket. It's the jacket he gave Yina months ago. It's been patched up from different color of clothes and look weird and ugly.

Lucis look at Yina and Suyi with confused expression. 'I remember asking a new one that look similar, instead they gave me my original jacket after patching it up a bit.'

Lucis look again at Yina and realized there's no new clothes on her hand.

'wow, did I just get scammed?' he thought. He feel angry inside but managed to hide it under his calm expression.

"uncle, I have to go now. Let's go Suyi." Lucis didn't bother to look at Kunan expression anymore and walk away quickly. He's angry but sad at the same time. While everyone in the village wearing a good clothes, he's wearing a hemp old clothes full of patches and even his request for new jacket is forgotten.
