Thread Of Fate

The inside of Oriana's home was beautifully decorated. The walls of the room in the living room were filled with shelves and shelves of books, Selena felt drawn to them. Selena looked to Oriana but she was already busy walking into what Selena presumed to be the kitchen.

Selena started to read the titles of the books they ranged from non-fiction to fiction. The nonfiction was alchemy, herbs, poisons and demons. Selena's eyebrow twitched surely beasts should be in the fiction section she wondered to herself.

Selena glanced at the fiction books and found many that she had read before, Oriana was a true lover of reading just like herself.

"Now some tea and then we can get you settled upstairs?" Oriana's voice came from the kitchen.

Selena nodded and joined her in the kitchen leaving the books for now. "Yes please. Are you sure that I won't be in the way?"

"Tish tosh, don't be silly. It's just me and my husband here in this big house so I would love you to keep me company." Oriana had heated up some water and she poured it into the pot. She set up some cups and saucers on the dining table and ushered Selena to sit down.

Selena was not used to this treatment, it felt quite strange to be looked after. She had always helped others and this feeling was new to her, she smiled at Oriana.

Oriana saw the girls beautiful smile and she sat down in front of her with the teapot, she poured the tea into the cups.

"Thank you for the warm welcome and tea." Selena thanked her and took a sip. The tea was hot and a bit bitter. She usually drank coffee so she wasn't used to tea.

"Here have some milk," Oriana added some milk to Selena's cup.

Selena glanced around the kitchen there were about the same amount of herbs and plants inside of the kitchen as there had been in the front garden.

"Do you mind if I read your tea leaves?" Oriana asked.

Selena then noticed the tea leaves and sipped the tea around them, she asked, "You can do that?"

"Yes, though I am not as well practised as my husband. I have a feeling since I met you that we were meant to cross paths." Oriana glanced at the young girl in front of her, she believed in fate and everyone that came into her life did so for a reason.

"Oh okay. What does your husband do?" Selena asked, she expected a librarian or a pharmacist with the number of books and the fact that most were related to herbs and plants.

"He works in an office, very boring really." If her husband heard her he would cry tears as she had no sympathy for him, "Are you done?" Oriana asked as she saw Selena take the last sip of tea. She was eager to read her tea leaves.

"Oh yes." Selena handed Oriana her cup and she continued to look around the kitchen, she didn't think much of tea readings or tarot cards. Selena thought you made your own destiny and it could not be predicted by some tea leaves nor cards.

"I see the vow and the thread. Very interesting, very interesting." Oriana spun the cup in her hand and assessed the tea leaves.

Selena furrowed her brows, "What does that mean?" She was surprised that Oriana could make anything out of the leaves in the cup. She did have confidence in that if Oriana believed in tea leaf reading, she would listen to her words.

"The thread is the red string of fate, you and another share contract. You may have missed your opportunity to be together in another life and in this one, it means you still have the same bond. Until this bond is fulfilled you will continue to be bound to one another." Oriana explained to Selena.

Selena took in her words seriously, "So as long as I fulfil our bond in this life I won't be bound to them anymore?" She asked.

"Well yes, it's a bit more than that though. You also have the vow in your cup." Oriana didn't want to put pressure on Selena but the red string of fate couldn't be severed no matter how many lifetimes you live, some people are just part of your path. This could be a friendship or a relationship.

"What's the vow? I can't be expected to be held to something I know nothing about." Selena joked, she didn't know if she wanted to be tangled with someone in any lifetime, she was always a loner except her friend from the orphanage.

From young, she didn't like to form attachments because every time she did, they would leave.

"The vow or promise is with the same person you share the string of fate with. This person plays a key part in your future. The promises cannot be unsaid or forgotten, you have to acknowledge the vow and live."

"Well living is easy," Selena joked again.

Oriana sighed and explained, "There is a big difference between existing and living. You are young, don't underestimate your strength and live to experience everything."

"I get you and your right and now I feel stronger than I ever have. I have so many plans I am not sure where to start. I feel free after being trapped for so long." Selena had cared for those around her in the orphanage and then she had lived with a partner who treated her more like a maid than a girlfriend. She felt free to do as she wished now.

Oriana nodded, like many intuitive readers she could see Selena's pain so she offered some words of reassurance, "I hope that the next person you fall in love with, will be the one who wants to stay till the end."

Selena nodded and looked away, she didn't want to think of placing her heart in another's hands again.

Oriana saw her inner turmoil, she stood and clapped her hands together, "Right let's show you to your room."
