Selena was about to lift a hot tray of food and carry it to the table. But after seeing what his woman was about to do Xavier rose from his seat and took the tray from her hands.
Selena was taken aback, "You dont have to" she exclaimed.
Xavier frowned at her words, she was his love, and he was hers so how could he allow her to carry dangerous and heavy objects. Doing things like this only came naturally to him.
For Selena though who thought of him as a stranger just smiled. Being used to only receiving less than the bare minimum from her ex the kind actions of the man in front of her astounded her.
Oriana and Cass then came into the kitchen to join them, "Something smells delicious!" Cass announced.
Cass and Oriana took a seat opposite one another which left Selena and Xavier to do the same.
A delicious aura entered Xavier's nose and he was surprised. If he had not of witnessed her cooking he may have thought she had had a chef prepare it. As a greater demon he didnt need to eat, he ate only for pleasure if and when he felt like it, which wasn't often.
Selena smiled at Cass, "It's not much but it is warm, so eat up."
Oriana and Cass for once were silent while they are and it left Selena feeling a bit awkward. Cass and Oriana kept their heads down and ate quietly, which was unusual. Cass usually told them many stories while they ate but somehow tonight they were mute.
Selena glanced at the handsome stranger in front of her.
Xavier caught her staring and he realised he quite liked this feeling of sitting down with one another for a meal. Just her being near him already made him happy.
With the trace of a smile on his lips, he started eating.
Selena didn't know whether to speak up or not, the charming man in front of her smiling had yet to even introduce himself to her. So she tried again. Setting down her knife and fork she placed her hand out towards him, "My name is Selena."
Seeing her actions, Xavier copied her and this time held her small and delicate hand again, "Xavier."
She felt as if lightning had struck her, his warm hand and kind eyes made her feel something that she couldn't describe.
After the introduction, they both started eating again peacefully. Xavier had thoughts of a chance to hold her hand again. If he did get the chance again he would never let it go.
After dinner, Xavier helped Selena with the dishes and Cass and Oriana made the excuse of being old, to go to bed.
Xavier thanked them internally, he wanted more time with Selena.
Curious about the man beside her Selena asked, "What do you do for a living? Are you Cass's employee?"
Answering truthfully Xavier said, "Slaying demons and the odd board meeting with Cass."
Selena nodded, "I see." She thought by slaying demons he meant that he liked to play video games.
"And you?" Asked Xavier, he wanted to hear her voice again.
"Nothing at the moment. I am looking though." Selena muttered.
Xavier nodded in understanding, after all, she was still young.
Seeing that the dishes were washed and put away Selena glanced at the clock on the wall, it was after nine in the evening. She wanted to see Rai and curl up in bed beside him.
She then thought that it was odd, he hadn't come down for dinner.
If Xavier knew her thoughts he would slay a certain crafty familiar that hogged his woman's warmth.
Xavier saw her glance at the clock, it was late and he would have to go soon. He sighed, "I will go back to the office soon."
Reluctantly he started to get ready to leave and he watched her back as she left the kitchen. What could he to do to stay... He was already like a schoolboy in love.
Selena had walked into the living room where she felt relaxed as she perused the wall of books. She felt the mere presence of this charming man made her brain foggy. Thinking that she decided to read before she slept.
Gazing at the books on the library shelf, she skimmed through the titles. Her fingers tracing the book covers lightly with her jade like fingers as she scanned for her favourite book.
"I believe you are looking for this." A deep voice said behind her. Selena looked at him with wonder as he handed the book to her, a glint of kindness in his eyes.
"How did you know?" She asked with a slight smile on her lips.
"Just a lucky guess." His smile was charismatic and kind, and she thought that it may be meant more than that.
"Do I know you?" Selena called out to him as she saw him turn to walk away. His broad back seemed both powerful and safe.
"No…" He answered, continuing to walk away. "Not yet." Xavier then whispered under his breath.
Little did she know that he had loved her for over a thousand years and that he had dreamed of seeing her smile up at him again like she had just done, and so many times all those years ago.
Turning her attention to the book Selena flipped through the pages in wonder and when she glanced up again Xavier was gone. In all the confusion she barely noticed a piece of letter paper as it fluttered out of the book.
Selena reached down and opened it up, and started to read what was written.
