Starlight To Spare

But he didn't move nor say anything and her hand was left hanging in mid air. She felt embarrassed so she quickly returned to the kitchen island to hide behind and to continue finishing their meal.

But he still stood frozen in place and she could feel his intense stare on her as she worked. Those eyes though, she knew them intimately and yet doesn't know them at all.

At that moment Xavier was frozen like a statue, when she had walked towards him to introduce herself he wanted to reach out and embrace her to his body and never let her go.

But as he could not do that he yet as she was technically a stranger to him, he stood holding back every muscle that wanted to betray him.

As she had smiled up at him, standing alive and well in front of him was all he had ever dreamed of and more. He couldn't fathom how this had happened or why. Was she reborn? Her past life forgotten?? He had so many questions left unanswered.

As Cass and Oriana heard the awkward exchange and now the silence that had ensued they felt lost for words and glanced at one another.

Cass wanted to shake him, he was messing everything up. He was about to go into the kitchen to help the two lovebirds but his lovely wife shook her head.

All they could do was sit and wait as the idiot greater demon ruined his chance.

Meanwhile in the kitchen Xavier's mouth was dry and he had fused his feet to the floor in fear of scaring her away by his over eagerness.

She was like an angel from a painting, he feared to touch it for he may ruin it. She smiled up at him again and his lip raised slightly.

The longer he watched her in silence the more he realised that she looked so far away from him now.

It reminded him of someone who had been abandoned by the world, much like himself.

He wanted to continue to watch her but she suddenly asked for his help.

"Hey, can you reach me down some plates please?" Selena asked, she was fed up with him just standing there like some god waiting to be served. She found him both endearing and annoying at the same time.

He was overjoyed to be of any help to her, as long as she asked he would do anything. He made his way to the cupboard above her for the plates.

He had to fight the burning desire to go over and devour her. But he couldn't, not yet. He had to earn her trust and friendship first.

Watching her adorable reaction as he leaned over her, Xavier couldn't help but break out into a blinding smile.

Selena was in awe for a moment, he had a charming smile that could easily hypnotise her. She didnt realise that she was now staring.

Little did she realise that he hadn't smiled like that in over a thousand years. His smile was reserved just for her and he had lost it the day he had lost her.

Xavier then remastered his poker face as he shamelessly said, "I haven't had dinner yet!"

Selena froze for a moment "..."

Seeing him help her set the table and knowing he was one of Cass's friends she invited him for dinner, even though she didn't think that she had cooked enough.

"Stay for dinner then," Selena said with a smile.

Xavier's eyes lit up like fireworks, but he had quickly hidden it. He had taken the first step!!

Xavier reached for the glasses, to continue to set the table. However, her hand reached at the same time and their hands ended up touching.

Like being electrocuted, Selena jumped and smiled awkwardly up at Xavier. She didn't reach for the glass again. Her face reddened.

Xavier picked out the glass and gazed at the hand that had touched hers. Her hand was small and very soft.

Selena continued with dinner as she thought of what had just happened. His hand was much bigger than hers, full of calluses on his palm and the veins on the back of his hand stuck out, it made him seem sexier...

Realising where her mind had drifted she shook her head. Forcing away all her impure thoughts.

Xavier finished setting the table with Selena and he sat at the table. He watched her gather her hair as she tied it up into a messy bun with an elastic in her hand.

As if cupid shot him with an arrow to his chest, he felt suffocated, like a person struck by love. He then noticed everything about her.

She didn't wear thick layers of makeup, allowing him to see her natural beauty. A rare beauty. He was once again mesmerized by her.

As if his whole world brightened he realised that he couldn't lose his light again.

As Xavier admired her, he thought 'I have spent enough time in the darkness to know it intimately. It has never frightened me. I carry darkness within, but I wear hope like stars that shine through the darkness. Because of that, there is nothing you could say or do that would send me running. Share with me your darkness, all of your shadows. I will love you for them. I can build a fire, and I have plenty of starlight to spare.'
