In the backyard of the Liu mansion,
Juan stood stupefied looking at Tara who was standing before him with a bunch of roses and an opened box containing a chain.
Tara just confessed to Juan and asked him if he was willing to be her boyfriend, But Juan neither nodded nor shook his head. Rather he just stood still with slight surprise on his face.
"Hmm? " Tara hummed softly to bring him back to his attention.
Juan immediately let out a cold aura after coming back to his senses. His brows furrowed deeply as he looked at Tara.
"Tara..." Juan trailed and his face turned pale. He closed his eyes and stood still without doing anything.
He opened his eyes and saw Lyra looking at him with tears and sadness pooled in her eyes. Tara from a distance. He looked at Lyra with an indescribable look in his eyes.
While on the other hand, Tara was panicking inside, She saw how Juan's face contorted when she professed her love to him. She was afraid that he was going to reject her.
"Juan..." Tara called out to him softly with her eyes gathered with tears.
Juan looked at Tara with a blank look on his face, Tara took a step closer to him. She glanced up to meet his eyes.
"You d-don't w-want to?" Tara stammered as her heart bled in pain anticipating his rejection.
Juan looked at Joel who was standing behind Lyra, Joel was shaking him as a no to signal his brother. He didn't want his brother to regret this decision.
Juan glanced back at Tara. Her tears have already spilt out of her eyes and trailed down to her pale cheeks.
"I understand," Tara said weakly while stepping away from him.
But before Joel and others could let out a sigh of relief they saw Juan pull her closer to him.
"Are you sure about this?" Juan asked her gripping her wrist.
Tara was surprised but nodded strongly hearing his question.
"Yes, I love you. This is not some childish infatuation Juan," Tara said earnestly.
Juan nodded slightly, "I am sorry, I can't love you. I am not capable of it." Juan said pushing Tara back into the abyss.
"What d-do you m-mean?" Tara said fisting her hands.
"I don't love you, Tara. And I don't think I could look at you as a woman in this lifetime. I... I can't. But If you are fine with this, I will try to give this relationship a chance. Let's try dating. But do not have any hope for me. I am incapable of those. But I can promise you that if we are going to do this, I will be honest with you. I will try my best to be your partner" Juan said calmly while looking deep into her eyes.
He talked the longest to Tara in a steady low voice that none could hear.
Tara blinked her eyes and stared into his eyes. She knew right at that moment that he was not kidding with her. But... What if she can make him fall for her? Humans are selfish. No matter the outcome, she wants to try this. If... If she backs out now, she will never know the answer to that question. She will regret giving up without even trying. And so she made a decision right there.
"I don't know what awaits in our life. Feelings are not forced. I know that very well. But I wish to give it a chance. If... If our relationship doesn't work. Then I-I will l-let you go." Tara professed while conveying her thoughts
She loved him. Yes. But she was not going to put herself through a relationship where she can never feel that love. She will try her best. If it doesn't work then she will let him go full-heartedly.
"Are you sure?" Juan asked again
Tara nodded her head strongly and walked toward him slowly. She stood very close to him and looked into his eyes. She opened her arms slowly.
While at a distance, Tears spewed out of Lyra without a stop. A gasp escaped her mouth as she watched Juan pulling Tara into his embrace. She struggled to breathe as her mind, heart everything was aching. She clutched her chest and wept silently, watching her best friend and her love hugging each other. She turned around and ran aimlessly.
She wanted to get out of this place. She can't bear to. She can't watch that. She just can't. Why is this so painful? She just wants to rip her heart out so that it will not ache anymore. She can't bear this painful ache that was making her breathless.
She ran and ran neither paying any attention to her friends who were chasing her nor her parents who watched the entire ordeal from the side.
Aiden, Anthony and Garcia ran behind her.
"Lyra! Lyra!" Aiden shouted while running.
Anthony and Garcia were stopped by Jeffery and Serena who followed them.
"Talk to her later, Anthony," Serena said while looking in the direction of the siblings.
"Serena, I don't understand. What the hell is going on here? Juan and Tara? I don't understand." Garcia said while her face was painted in worry and sadness for her daughter.
Serena shook her head as both she and her husband had no idea what their son was doing. But they refined from saying anything as they could only speculate.
Juan who watched as Lyra ran let go of Tara gently but immediately. Tara didn't react to it as she couldn't hear Aiden shouting as they had already run to a far distance. She also didn't see them as her back was facing them.
On the other side, Aiden grabbed Lyra's arm who was struggling against him.
"Let go, Aiden. Let go." Lyra said while trying to shake his hand.
Aiden effortlessly pulled his sister into his embrace and patted her back and hugged her head tightly.
"Shhh Shhh. Breathe," Aiden said patting her back rhythmically.
After what seemed like forever, he felt Lyra calm down slightly. He pulled away a little and wiped her tears from her cheeks.
"Don't cry again if I am not near you. Cry only when I am near so that I can console my stupid sister. Hmm, Okay?" Aiden said softly.
Lyra chuckled lightly, "I am not stupid. I am just sad,"
"I know."
"Brother, I don't want to talk about this. I already made this decision. That is all. Now it is irreversible and I don't regret it. So forget whatever happened. I will somehow forget Juan so don't worry about me." Lyra told while sniffing.
Aiden sighed and nodded his head.
