Emergency Call

Asa fell on his back on the floor due to the impact on his stomach, the pain he felt was too great, his arms hugged his abdomen, while his thighs pressed deeper, putting him in a fetal position. After his hit, Lucas returned to the ground and saw his trainer in that state and once again wondered if he had crossed the line.

"Wing! Are you okay?" He spoke loudly as he bent down to support him.

"You have a heavy punch, see." Asa spoke as he wrapped his arms around the shoulders of his student, who helped him to his feet.

When he got up, still with difficulty, he looked deep into Lucas' eyes and said:

"Did you…use your mutation?" His questioning tone pressured his student to reveal the truth.

"What? Of course!" Lucas hurriedly denied, he was startled by the sudden question and tried to change the subject.

"Are you really okay?" Although he didn't use his mutation to strengthen his body, he didn't want to pursue the subject and was also worried about his trainer.

"It's all right! I've already taken stronger punches… I think. Let's take a break, in the meantime, can you explain to me what happened yesterday to today with you?"

"So how are you going to say it?" A beautiful girl with short black hair and a body that would take your breath away from any man, she spoke with an irritated expression. A few meters to her right, standing and looking out the window, a very tall and apparently bald young man listened to her and nodded, showing his boredom and his helpless state at the young woman's screams.

"Ok ok... I'm sorry for how I acted, I didn't know what happened before, I hope you can forgive me." He spoke with a sarcastic tone.

Since she knew what Ace did, Ruby hasn't stopped pestering him. She just didn't accept what he did. If she could get out of bed, she would have beaten him with her bare hands. Since she couldn't, she had spent the entire night before complaining to him, who in turn retorted, explaining his reasons. Unfortunately, for Ace, Ruby didn't drop the subject, after all, knowing how Lucas was after Ace's anger discharge was disturbing information.

Early in the morning, before Ace left for her daily construction activity, Ruby attacked him with her complaints one more time, finally convincing him of his mistake, after all she was majoring in psychology, so she knew very well how the mind works, being able to persuade others easily.

"It won't be just excuses! You have to convince him of this! I won't be able to look at him if he thinks I agree with you!" She was almost hysterical and waving her arms to emphasize his speech.

"My God! Yes yes, I'm on my way! I'll be back for lunch." He couldn't stand to be arguing anymore and decided to leave.

'AAAH, what the fuck! That uncontrolled bastard! Now I have to apologize! Fucking Ruby! Why did you ask him to be serious?! None of this would have happened!" Ace wasn't entirely convinced by what Ruby said. In his mind, Lucas still had all the blame on his back. So he went to the construction department and on the way mentally prepared himself to apologize to Lucas.

When he was getting close to the department, he heard a voice coming from behind:

"Ace! Get over here!" The voice had a firm tone that didn't allow for backtracking.

He looked at the source of that voice and was surprised at its source. A man less than 1.70 in height was looking at him coldly. This man had his hands and a good part of his forearm taken from the color black, while his skin was brown. He had his arms crossed in a dominant posture.

The tall young man didn't understand why someone he didn't know was talking to him like that, but he still decided to go and see what the conversation would be about. He turned around and walked towards the man and when he came face to face with him, he caused an almost funny scene.

A six-foot-tall young man looked down, his eyes finding a short, muscular man. However, the short man did not back down and began to say:

"Don't think you can do what you want and get away with it! Think no one saw what you did to that new recruit?! If not for his skill, you would have killed him!" The man began to complain abruptly and his voice was not low, allowing everyone who passed around him to hear clearly.

Ace was no longer in a good mood because of Ruby's insistence, and now there was a stranger complaining to him about the same reason, the worst part was that this man was talking loud enough for other people to hear! He looked around and saw the faces of passersby, some had indifference in his countenance, while others repudiated his actions. He had a vague feeling that he had seen this man before, but when he couldn't quite remember, he put the matter in the back of his mind, as there was something more important to him now.

He clenched his fists, his nails dug into her flesh, his muscles went rigid and his eyes radiated an implacable rage. That was the last straw, he couldn't stand the humiliation he was going through, especially coming from someone more 'weak' and unknown.

Roberto noticed all these actions and gave a weak mocking smile, which Ace interpreted as a challenge and released all his anger in an energetic wave of his mutation. It wasn't an attack, it was just a release of his mutation, which caused dust, air, and anything small within a radius of 10 feet to retreat, creating a ring of dense dust that was 3 feet high, with him and Roberto at the center.

The black-handed man saw all that and smiled even more. He loved teaching good lessons to these clueless youth, especially when the person he would teach repeated. So, just like before, he clapped his hands.

The generated sound spread, following the wave of dust made. The noise had a very low tone, it sounded like a melody from the darkness. The mutants watching the scene were unaffected by this sound, but they saw the effect of it firsthand.

Ace felt his bowels shudder, a hot liquid rising in his throat and spewing from his mouth. He finally remembered this man, it was the same man who had stopped him from attacking Lucas in the infirmary. Ace regretted his uncontrolled action from before, but it was too late, Roberto's mutation caused the tall young man to vomit instantly.

The coach didn't wait for the young man to recover and, still seeing the vomit fall to the ground, hit him with a right hook. The observers around could not help but smile.

"My god, hahahah, did he really try to intimidate Roberto?"

"He had to be a newbie! At least he learned his lesson!"

"Is Beto being 'friendly' again? It's been a while since he took someone on his shoulders for being badly behaved."

"It's the same person! Look! Same height and bald!"

"I do not believe! He must be pretty dumb to do the same thing twice in a few days!"

Luckily, Ace couldn't hear his surroundings anymore, the punch he took was hard enough to knock him to the ground! He landed on his back on the little asphalt that still covered the street, he was no longer conscious at the time.

'Tsk, tsk, what is tall is idiotic. At least he'll help a lot in the cultivated fields." Despite having a serious countenance, inside he was very happy that Ace had lost control, after all, now he had a reason to 'help' this recruit to get along peacefully.

'These new recruits that have arrived are really good! One is almost immortal, another is undetectable and this one is useful for almost anything! We got lucky this time, too bad this one seems to have a few screws missing. Anyway, I'll go easy on him." Roberto thought.

A few hours later, about 5 km from the base, in an area intended for the cultivation of vegetables, some survivors were taking care of the crops while smiling and talking to each other. The area was nearly 200 square meters and was separated into several smaller areas for each type of plant.

Ace was serving his sentence, he was supposed to be responsible for planting and growing an entire section of carrots for 3 months, alone. When he heard this, he almost lost control again, but seeing Roberto's intimidating, commanding expression, he swallowed his anger and headed for the ground. Once there, he saw that the area he had to take care of had about 20 square meters.

'That fucking son of a bitch! Always him! Why didn't we leave him there? It would be so much easier! Now I have to take care of it! AAAAH, and I still have to apologize! Ruby, Ruby, I can't take much longer!' He kept blaming Lucas, his eyes were already red with anger and seeing the size of the carrot field increased his hatred even more.

A few more hours passed, at 5 pm, back at the north gate, a winged man and a young man were sitting on the ground, the sun was almost setting. The man with the wings was drenched in sweat and breathing heavily, while the young man beside him was not as sweaty as he was or taking a deep breath, it looked like he had just run a little. He wore a thin white shirt that was barely wet with sweat, along with dark blue cotton shorts.

"What are you made of?" Asa asked, he almost couldn't believe what he saw. Lucas barely tired during this period, while he had to stop several times to drink water or rest for a few minutes. But what scared him the most was his growth, with each blow, each pause and each advice, this young man absorbed everything like a sponge absorbs water.

"Well, I na-" Before he could respond, Lucas suddenly felt a tingle in the back of his head, more precisely in the back of his neck. It was a quick sensation, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. He didn't worry about it, just faced it as a different shiver, after all in this world nothing was like before.

"Must be my mutation." He soon completed the sentence, showing what he really thought of the subject.

"Yeah, as if your immortality wasn't enough, now you don't even get tired. What an unfair world!" The coach ended his sentence with a small laugh, which the young man beside him did not hesitate to imitate.

Suddenly, he looks to his left, towards the center of the base. He sees the figure of a man running towards him and raising his arm waving at him. Asa recognized him, not hesitating to spread his wings and fly towards him.

Lucas saw it all unfold, but he didn't care so much, after all he imagined how difficult it was to operate a human settlement. After a few moments, the man retreated to the base in a hurry as his trainer quickly turned back to Lucas, however his expression was not at all smiling as before. The young man got up and waited for an explanation.

"Apparently you will be exploring faster than I planned. There was a complicated situation outside, we leave tomorrow at dawn, get ready." Asa spoke hurriedly and in a serious tone. Lucas didn't know how to react at first, but soon he sharpened his mind and determination spilled over his expression.

"Okay, what's the exact time?" Lucas even puffed up his chest a little to show his confidence, though he was still very nervous about his 'mission'.

"At three in the morning, but first go to the construction sector and look for Marcelo or his son Jefferson. Order a melee weapon that you think is appropriate. Unfortunately I don't have time to train you anymore. Until later!" So Asa spread his wings and flew into the base, leaving the young man alone in his thoughts.

'I can't hesitate now, this is my chance!' After getting motivated, he ran to the construction department to get a new weapon, while he ran he took the time to think about which weapon he should order, after all he used the knives just for lack of choice, now that he could choose, he didn't want to take something that didn't suit him.
