IT'S BEEN TWO DAYS SINCE THE OUTBREAK STARTED.
Dorothy can't sleep properly and she always feel anxious. She's thinking what if someone suddenly entered their house while they are sleeping.
Her sister Carla approached her gave her a biscuit.
Carla sat down in the stairs too while caressing her back.
"It's okay, don't stress yourself too much," she said and Dorothy gave her a smile.
"Where's Steffanie?"
"She's sleeping upstairs."
Dorothy nodded and went to the kitchen to check their foods. Luckily, they still have a lot of stock in their pantry but these foods will not last for too long. She's thinking where she'll find food if they run out of food.
She also checked if they have water and luckily, there is. She decided to push the two sofas to block it in the door and Carla helped her do it.
"Go back upstairs and charge our phones and also our flashlight. We don't know when will the power will go off, alright?"
"Okay."
"I'll just check everything here downstairs and we'll talk about this later, alright?"
"Yeah, don't stress yourself too much."
She gave Carla a sweet smile before taking a deep breath. She checked every window again and also if they're all close. After that, she took a shower and went upstairs.
She saw Carla and Steffanie eating biscuits together so she decided to talk to them right now about their conditions.
Carla is twelve years old so she can now understand things easily. While steffanie is seven years old but she's smart so Dorothy thinks that she'll understand the situation clearly.
"You two, listen to me, okay?" she started, "there's..uh..some weird people outside so no one is allowed to go outside, okay?"
"They're zombies."
"Steffanie—
"—it's obvious," Steffanie added.
"Okay, let's say they are zombies that means they are dangerous. If you are going downstairs, tell me, okay?"
The two nodded.
"So we'll make three rules in here," Dorothy said before getting a pen and she started to wrote their rules in their wall, "first rule is, like what I've said, no one is allowed to go outside. No one. Understood?"
"Yeah," Carla and Steffanie answered.
"Second, we will only eat if we get hungry. We have to save our food until this zombie thing is over. If you're hungry tell me. We can't eat three times a day or more like we use to do."
The two nodded again.
"And the last one, do not leave each other's side. No matter what happens, you'll stick to me alright?" she hugged her two sisters and closed her eyes and telling herself that everything will be okay.
Dorothy spend her days putting sticking some papers in their window so one will see them. She made sure that no one can enter their door. She placed some knives and tools that she can use near the windows and the door so if a 'zombie' get in, she can just stab it.
Dorothy sat the floor and opened her TV to watch some news if there's any update about the happenings right now.
The news reporter pops up in the TV with Dr. Cunningham again: "We are with Dr. Cunningham again to hear some update about the cure that they are creating and about the ---- city."
Dr. Cunningham spoke up, "we conducted a rescue team for the remaining survivors of ---- city. But this rescue operation won't be easy because almost all of the population of the ---- city is now infected and the infected people are roaming around the city. About the cure, well—
Dorothy increased the volume so she can hear it more clearly, "—there's still no progress about it but we are finding a way as soon as possible. Wherever you are stay right there and the rescue team will come and rescue you—
—a loud noise interrupted Dorothy. Someone is slamming the window and their door. Carla and Steffanie went downstairs to check what's going on.
"Stay upstairs!" Dorothy told them.
"What's happening? Why are they here infront in our house?" Carla asked.
"Just stay upstairs—oh my god!"
They heard more growls from the hungry zombies outside. Dorothy started to panic when their window cracked a little bit. She's worried that it might broke if the zombies outside will keep slamming it.
"Dorothy, they're not leaving!" Carla said.
"Just go upstairs and lock the doors!"
"No, we won't leave you here. How about the rule number three?" Carla added again.
"Carla please, just go upstairs—holy crap!"
The window's crack is getting bigger. Dorothy is thinking how to get rid of this zombies. She grabbed her knife and just waited for the zombies to come in.
"The TV!" Steffanie suddenly exclaimed.
"What?"
"Turn off the TV!" Steffanie exclaimed again.
Dorothy pulled the wire and turned off the TV. She waited for some minutes if the zombies are now leaving. After some minutes of silence, Dorothy noticed that they started to walk away from their house.
Dorothy fell in the floor and hold her chest. She feels like she's having a heart attack. Her body is trembling. Carla went to her immediately to hugged her. Steffanie went to the kitchen and got some water for her.
"They are attracted to noise," Steffanie said while handing her the water.
"How did you know that?" Dorothy asked after drinking.
"It's just a guess. Our house is peaceful and they didn't attack us and why did they attack us now all of a sudden then I noticed that the TV is loud and noisy so I thought maybe it's because of the TV and also I watched it from some movies."
Dorothy just shook her head and hugged her sisters. They went back upstairs to have some rest.
"I think you sleep and rest, I'll guard the house," Carla said.
"No, I'm fine. You two should rest."
"We've already rest enough," Steffanie took Carla's side, "we'll wake you up if something is wrong."
"Okay. Remember our rules, alright?"
"Yes," the two of them answered.
Dorothy went to their bed and rested her body. She closed her eyes to have some sleep. She needs to be brave for her siblings. They're the only one who's with here. And she will protect them at all cost.
