IT'S THE FIRST WEEK SINCE THE OUTBREAK STARTED.
Everything is the same as usual after the virus spread. Dorothy and her siblings is still alive and waiting for the rescuers. For the mean time, they are spending their days sleeping and resting so they'll have energy if a problem occurs.
They still have enough food. The food is still good for three months. And she's now thinking, where the hell will she find a food for them after this. They might not die because of infection but they might die because of hunger.
"I'll take a bath now," Steffanie said. Dorothy prepared her clothes and towel. She accompany her in the bathroom while Carla is peeking at the window, checking what's going on outside.
"Is there many of them?" Dorothy asked Carla.
"Not really. They're just roaming around slowly."
"Hmm, okay. Let's just do our daily routine, okay?" she said to the two and they just nod as a response.
After Steffanie took a bath, Dorothy went to the kitchen and cooked some foods for them. The three of them eat together and they went upstairs again. Dorothy peeked at the window to see if there is anything unusual outside other than those dead people roaming around.
Steffanie brought a book a in their room and she started reading. Carla is checking the batteries of their flashlights and phones if they are still full. Everything seems okay for now but they are not bringing their guards down and always alert.
"Dorothy," Steffanie called her.
"Yeah?"
"What if there's still some survivors outside, should we let them in if they seek for help?"
Dorothy took a seconds before answering her sister. She knows that everyone needs help because of their situation but she can't just let some strangers enter their house. A human is may be more scarier that those dead people outside. They can't just trust some people outside.
"Steffanie, you should not open the doors if someone knock because who knows if they already infected and I don't want to put you in a dangerous situation. Please understand, that."
"Okay. I'll be careful."
Dorothy went to the bed and she just let her two sisters play. Carla is reading some news about the virus right now but there is still no cure for this. The rescue operation in the other city failed because there is lot of infected people in there.
Carla sighed before turning off their phone because they have to their batteries. She leaned into the wall while looking at her sister Dorothy who is now sleeping.
Carla knows how hard it is for Dorothy. Since their parents' died, Dorothy became their Mother and Father. Dorothy is everything for her and Steffanie. She can tell her sister is in the deep thought everyday thinking how will they survive in this pandemic.
"Steffanie, stay right here. I'll just go downstairs to use the bathroom," she said to Staffanie who's busy in reading.
"Okay. Do you want me to go with you?"
"No, stay here."
"Okay."
Carla went downstairs and use the bathroom. When peeing, she heard a small noise outside near the window in the kitchen. She flushed the bowl and check what it is. She walked slowly to avoid creating any noise. She peeked at the window and she saw a white dog. It's barking like it's looking for help.
"Carla what are you doing?" she heard Steffanie's voice. Her younger sister approached with a confusion on her face.
"There's dog outside."
"Is it okay?" Steffanie asked again, showing concern on her face.
"It's okay but it looks like looking for help."
"What she we do?"
"I don't know."
"We should get it."
"What? No. Dorothy will get mad at us."
"But we can't just let the dog stay outside."
Carla bit her lower lips while thinking what should she do. She looked at the dog again before looking to Steffanie. Carla took a deep breath and open the window in their kitchen. She check if there is any zombies at the back.
Carla went outside quietly. She didn't make any noise that may attract those infected people.
"Okay, everything is gonna be okay," Carla said to the dog while petting it.
The dog suddenly licked Carla's face and bark. The dog's bark is enough attract the infected people outside. They started to walk towards Carla and they started panicking.
"Carla, get in! Get in!" Steffanie exclaimed.
"Get the dog!" Carla hand her the dog. She climb at the window but she fall because of the slippery wall.
"Carla, Steffanie what's going on—shit! Shit! Shit! Carla what are you doing outside?!" Dorothy exclaimed as she saw her sister is in dangerous situation.
She grabbed Carla's hand so she can make it. Carla climbed faster and luckily she got inside before the zombies reached her. The zombies are trying to reach them from the window. Dorothy stabbed their hands and closed the windows immediately.
The three of them are catching their breathes. Dorothy checked Carla's body if there's any scratch or bite but luckily there's none.
"What the hell are you thinking?!" Dorothy yelled at them while her tears are falling because of nervous.
"I--I just want to save the dog..." Carla cried.
Dorothy's eyes went to the dog. Steffanie is hugging the dog. Dorothy massage her head and walk repeatedly. She's overthinking about what if Carla got bitten she didn't make it inside.
"Next time, call me if there's something outside. How many times do I have to remind you to follow the rules!"
"I'm sorry..." Carla cried while hugging Dorothy.
"Let's go back upstairs."
They all went back upstairs. Dorothy is about to close the door when their lights went off. Carla clicked the switch two times to check is something is wrong. It seems like there's a black out in the whole city.
"It's getting dark outside. What should we do?" Steffanie asked.
"Let's save until it gets really dark. We should not waste the batteries of our phones and flashlight, okay?" Dorothy told them.
After more hours, the whole city is consumed by darkness.
