Two in One (2)

I couldn't even find the words to describe the scene that was currently playing out in front of me.

I actually had my mouth wide open in awe of the sheer magnitude of the destruction that was caused by the two spells.

'There's no way one person can be this strong. This should be illegal!' I said, amazed at myself.

Right after I released the dark ice and fireball the whole building including the soldiers in it vaporized.

The two abilities, although completely different in nature, came together in a wonderful form of complex annihilation.

The moment the seemingly insensible ice spike struck the ground a wave that was a mix of ice and blackness shot out.

It was as if a bomb had gone off.

The explosion didn't go vertical but instead created a sort of shockwave that followed the ground.

It spread out to every corner of the building as the once solidified dirt ground became a frozen black sheet of ice.

What surprised me the most was that it wasn't too destructive. But what it lacked in power it made up in deadliness.

The ice that coated the floor was only a few centimeters high off the ground.

Any of the soldiers who got caught in it could easily break free. And some of the more experienced or stronger veterans managed to jump over it.

Yet, what they tried didn't matter in the slightest because there was no chance of survival.

It wasn't the direct attack of the ability that killed but the after effect.

The darkness which resided within the icy ground was incredibly toxic.

Those who already touched it felt their insides begin to burn.

That sensation would grow stronger and stronger until the point that they would go crazy.

Some decided it would be better to just end the suffering themselves.

Many committed suicide while the few that held on had a much worse death in store for them.

The burning that they felt with their chests was not a figment of their imagination but the death essence infiltrating and corrupting their mana.

Due to my heightened senses after breaking through I could sense the mana more clearly not only in the air but also how it circulated in others.

It could be considered a sort of X-ray but it focused on the internal structure of the person or object.

Thus, I could see the normally blue-like mana veins turn black as the essence made its way through the soldier's bodies.

Desperate screams filled the room as the soldiers who touched the black ice cried out for mercy.

Yet, their voices fell on deaf ears as their organs began to shut down and die at a rapid rate that could be seen with a naked eye.

By that point, the inflected were already dead but the essence didn't stop in its journey to leave anything left of the bodies.

On the other side of the building, the soldiers weren't any better off.

The ice had already spread to their side as many succumbed to the same fate.

However, a second destructive ability was also raging about stealing the lives of many just in a much different way.

The moment the death essence fireball made contact with the ground its effects were immediate.

Unlike the black ice that spread its force outwards, the fire actually remained contained.

A ball of flames had managed to grow quite big before I released it from my hands and stopped supplying it with mana.

Yet, while on the ground it didn't expand or search for fuel.

It remained in the exact spot where it hit and became hotter.

The intensity of the flames increased at an insane rate while not moving in the slightest.

But even with the strange and unnatural characteristics of the flames the destruction and death brought by it were not any less than the ice.

The fire rose in temperature which alone was enough to kill anyone who dared to step near it.

The soldiers that were unlucky or rather lucky enough to be directly hit by the flaming ball were turned to ashes instantly.

Those that were near felt the intensity of the flames as their skin began to melt off their body.

The flame seemed to have a radius with different ranks of annihilation.

The ones on top were obviously turned to nothingness. The ones that were closest to the flames yet didn't touch them were reduced to ashes.

Soldiers that were slightly further away melted as their blood actually boiled within them.

Some of the remaining troops that were behind the ones that melted received deadly third and fourth-degree burns as not only the skin but bones, muscle, and tendons became charred.

Unfortunately for the last group of recruits that were behind the ladder, they were the ones that suffered the most.

The reason being was that they didn't end up dying in the flames.

Much of their skin was burnt and their clothing melted on them intensifying the damage done.

The smell of the building was horrid even for me. I had to scrunch my nose a couple of times.

The screams weren't as bad as the last attack. Although they were definitely louder and sharper they quieted down relatively quickly.

It really only took around thirty seconds for the last breath to be taken.

However, by studying the damage outputs that were enhanced by essence, time seemed to slow once again.

I made a mental note of them. It seemed that it wasn't only in battle that my senses could be magnified.

While still hovering in the air I noticed that I had completely forgotten about the principal.

Landing what was left of the flooring I touched my feet to the black ice that had recently killed many.

I felt no fear, but I did have a slight bit of hesitation thinking that the ability may go rogue and attack its creator. Although that seemed to be a meaningless thought because I was perfectly fine when I walked on it.
