Two in One (3)

Satisfied, I began to search for the remains of the principal— if there were any.

The crackling of the purple flames were the only sounds that resorted out of the graveyard.

Surpassingly, not only had the flames not even begun to show signs of burning out but they were slowly but gradually growing stronger.

I had no idea what this meant or what to do about it.

Unlike with the ice I knew for a matter of fact that the flames would be able to harm me.

This reduced my worries but I still had no idea what to do about the flame.

It wasn't like they were spreading everywhere and threatening to burn down the entire planet but it felt like they would just keep growing stronger until they consumed the planet instead.

This wasn't a current problem because I couldn't care less what happened to the planet. Whether it got caught up in a ball of flames or blew up into a billion pieces.

However, I couldn't have this happen every time I wanted to fuse a fire attack with death essence.

That would cause a lot of problems so I needed some form of insurance that the flames could be put out.

Yet, nothing I thought of would be able to solve the problem.

I tried normal water which seemed to make it grow stronger, I used the dark ice but no change took place and they both ended up surviving. I even tried adding death essence to water and wind to try and squash it out with pressure but nothing worked.

I knew it wasn't a connection with me because I had long since stopped supplying the flames with mana which meant it was surviving of its own accord.

This started to annoy me because of the amount of time I was wasting, but no ability even with death essence infused would do anything to the flames.

'What the fuck! Just go out!' I exclaimed in my head. 'Even if I try to counter it with something else that also has essence it doesn't make a difference.'

Aggravated that there seemed to be no current solution, I returned to my original goal of trying to find the remains of the principal.

I searched the bodies of all the dead soldiers in hopes of confirming the death of that being. Yet, there seemed to be no trace of them so I could only assume that they got caught up in the fireball.

Satisfied with the results of destruction caused by the two abilities that contained essence I prepared to shoot off in the direction of the first concentration camp.

But then suddenly a solution appeared in my mind on a possible way to stop the now ragingly growing purple fire.

'What if I try using life essence?' I thought to myself as I continued to hypothesize. 'Life is the opposite of death, what if the only way to cancel each of them out is with each other?'

Quickly wanting to test the idea without wasting any more time I walked towards the intensely strong flames while creating a ball of water in the palm of my hand. I then went on to infuse it with life essence the same way I did with death.

When I first activated death essence my body was wrapped in darkness, the same effect happened with life, though there was a blinding light.

I gold glowing hue wrapped around my body as I felt my power level rise greatly, yet I didn't care to experience the benefits, I just wanted to put the damn fire out.

The normally clear light blue water that came about when I used the ability didn't change as much as the fire and ice did.

The only difference was that the water had a golden hue that surrounded the outside of it rather than completely changing its components and internal color.

I could sense the internal mana that was within the golden ball of water and it surprised me greatly.

'The power force is greater than both the ice and the fire!' Shocked by this discovery I tested it out as well as answered my previous question by throwing the ball at the purple flames in front of me.

As the ball flew closer to the flame there didn't seem to be any reaction between the two, however, the moment they made contact a huge wave of force exploded outward.

This rush of mana pushed me backward as I had to dig my feet into the ground to stop myself from being flung away.

Once the wave passed I looked up in awe of the sheer reaction between the two forces.

What was left of the battle between the two abilities left me stunned.

Not only had the simple water ball won and extinguished the flames but the ice that was under the flames began to suffer as well.

The ice didn't receive the full blunt attack of the water yet what water didn't evaporate fell on the floor and began to mix with the ice.

The two essences clashed within the abilities once again as a small puddle of black and gold was made.

This only lasted a few short seconds before everything came to a halt and both essences abruptly stopped and the black and gold disappeared.

What remained was a small clear pocket of pure water that had no enhancements.

'They canceled each other out and continued to do so until they exhausted all the essence within them leaving behind the original ability.' I concluded.

'Well, this was an extremely interesting experience,' I said to myself while turning away from the recent battle as I pushed myself into the air.

Rising high above the remains of the building and the soulless corpses I focused my attention toward the next camp.

Taking off and flying in the direction I appeared in front of the building as more signatures made themselves known.

'I guess, I wasted too much time,' I said to myself as I stared down at the army below me.
