Pride's claws gleamed in the moonlight as they sliced downward ready to remove Night's head from his shoulders.
I closed my eyes. Everything somehow went horribly wrong! I should of kept Cal here, I should of-
Claws sliced into Night's fur and the sickening stench of blood wafted up.
I felt cold all over, colder than I had ever felt before. It was like Layla all over, but this time somehow worse. I-
"You going to kill him or what?" Lyra's voice asked.
My eyes shot open.
Pride wasn't moving his claws partly embedded in Night's fur. A hiss escaped between his teeth but nothing more. His jaw refused to move. And his claws remained still.
Night glanced at him then tore himself free, blood pouring down his neck in the process. He was injured, but he'd live.
He looked uneasily at Pride who was still stuck in his frozen state. Then he spread out his wings and clumsily managed to somehow become airborne. A moment later he disappeared from sight.
The weird coldness suddenly broke from me and I stumbled to the ground.
Pride shook himself free. He rubbed his jaw with a paw.
"Well that is an interesting talent." He grumbled, "I haven't seen such a absolute movement inhibitor talent in a long time. Talk about annoying."
I had a hard time focusing on what he said next, a wave of dizziness hit me and it took all my effort to remain seated and not crumple to the ground. My paws grew fuzzy before me and seemed to swim around while the ground swayed.
"You're all dismissed, I'll call again later." Pride strode off into the darkness and Lyra and Dart also vanished.
I meanwhile remained seated. Forget moving, I don't think I can move at all. My connection to my body seems off. Like I somehow disconnected from myself. I'm totally going to be sick.
(Snow! What the heck just happened!)
(Well, good news! You have a unique skill.)
(Why do I feel like this is bad news.)
(Uh yeah, about that. This is a very rare case of when a talent is too powerful for the holder.)
(English cat.)
(Your body can't control your own skill.)
(Fantastic, how do I fix that.)
(Don't use it.)
(Useless)
(I mean it! You will kill yourself if you use it too much. It might take years for your body to adapt to it, if it ever does. But because of that its an absolute power. No one can resist it, impressive really! Even if it shortens your lifespan.)
(Very funny cat, give me a different power I can actually use!)
(Yeah no can do, looks like your about to pass out. Sleep well.)
I really hate.....cats...
My vision greyed over and I felt my limbs lose their solidness as I crashed against the ground.
(I'm dying aren't I?...Snow?)
My eyes fell shut as I couldn't shoo away the darkness any longer.
.....
"What do you know you were right."
I felt something poke my body.
"Is he okay?"
"Doesn't look like it."
"Man this is the most cats that have unlocked unique skills in a long time."
"He's still breathing, that's good right? Are we for or against him now?"
"I don't know, Cody seemed to think he was on our side."
"Well your girlfriend's kind of missing in action."
"I am alive, that means he's on our side...at least somewhat."
"Well if we want him to stay on our side he has to live first."
I felt hands lift me up and suddenly I was draped over the back of something fuzzy, that was moving. I blinked weakly somehow opening an eye. Everything hurts, can they stop trying to move me and just let me die in peace?
I glanced up to see Kyle looking at me with Oliver. Below me was a patch of orange and black fur. My vision spun as soon as my eyes were open and pain raced through me. Catnip. I blacked out again.
.....
"You still haven't heard from Cody? Do you think they found her?"
Muffled voices reached me and I managed to open an eye again. At least I was no longer moving, that helped a lot.
I blinked managing to open both eyes. Everything was still hazy and weird, but I no longer instantly felt completely terrible.
I looked around. I was lying on a blanket on top of a mat on the carpeted floor of some building. I was still a snow leopard. I tried to feel my connection to my soul but found I couldn't.
I felt a twinge of fear, am I now going to be stuck as a cat forever!
Calm down Cody. Think rational thoughts. I'm probably just temporarily blocked from it for some reason. No way I'd get stuck as a cat forever.
I noticed an IV drip and needle taped to my paw and a blanket covering me. Dumb doctor. I reached over with my teeth and tore it out. Then noticed I could somewhat move, just not well. Kyle must have healed my injuries as well. The cut on my leg and stomach were gone.
I should get out of here. I need to go change into Cody and-
The door opened and I froze staring at Kyle as he entered the room.
Well this is going to get super awkward super fast isn't it? I should keep my mouth shut.
"Hi Snow." Kyle said softly walking over to me.
He was in his half cat form as he knelt next to me and, I froze in horror, what the heck! Why did that feel so good!
I purred softly unable to stop myself then looked mortified as he stopped petting my head.
He smirked slightly. "Thanks for your help."
I meant to say something cool and macho, like no problem anytime, but instead I found I couldn't talk. What the heck! I tried again but I could only somewhat growl or purr apparently!
"Don't hurt yourself." Kyle stroked my head again, "You somehow froze your throat muscles a bit, just chill here for a few days, okay?"
I hissed softly but it somehow turned into a purr again.
My eyes widened in horror, why was this happening to me!
