Bosses and Baddies

"Okay so for your boss we'll be using the Blighted Castyr Blueprint you've started creating. Now something to take into consideration is that in the normal world a blighted or diseased creature will be weaker than a healthy specimen of the same species. But in a dungeon these creatures cant die unless you kill them or an enemy does and they are created at their peak physical condition meaning they can be considered slightly stronger than the healthy ones." Tilly explains as I follow along and mentally take notes.

"For example this Blighted Castyr we're creating, in the wild it would be gaunt, diseased, and its attacks would cause poison damage. More like a rabid wolf than a lazy oversized rodent, but in this dungeon it will be well fed and in the best condition of it's life physically and mentally but with the added bonus of the disease and poison attacks added to it making this creature several times more dangerous. Now get to making Kyle we have a boss to make!" Tilly says giddily as I focus my mana on the blueprint and watch it slowly fill itself.

After several hours I finally have a Blighted Castyr Sitting in front of me and looking close to the normal one except slightly larger and with a brownish red fluid coating its claws and teeth. The blighted castyr begins snuffling around my core room before curling into a ball in the corner and taking a snooze, it's snuffling snores filling the once quiet room.

"Good now that it's been created focus on pulling mana or as you call it energy out of the surroundings. It's very difficult to do at first but as you practice it you'll start doing it passively which will also help your mana recover faster as well. While we wait for that to recover I want you to focus on the blighted Castyr and try to bring up it's stats, almost like when you inspect a creature." Tilly says as I begin focusing my 'eyes' on the sleeping castyr before a window opens above it.

[Blighted Castyr Level 1 HP-100 Stamina-80]

{Attacks and Magic}

Rabid Chomp-10 stamina per use

The creature crushes its target between it's teeth spreading its disease and causing poison damage over time.

Poison Slash- 5 Stamina per use

The creature wields its claws or weapon and slashes towards its enemies weak points causing small bursts of damage and inflicting poison.

Poison Resistance-Passive Effect gives creature a resistance of up to 40% from poison damage.

"Good as you can see this is the status of your creature and everything you create has this as well. As a creature wins battles and survives it will gain experience and possibly level up which will give it more health and stamina as well as increasing the damage it can do and possibly even allowing it to become sentient and evolve into a stronger creature. Everything in this world has a window like this but only the person or creature who it belongs to has access to them. The reason you can see these Castyr's status windows and such is because as dungeon monsters they're a part of you which means they are part of your body and you control them. Now we're going to turn this blighted one into a boss so you need to focus." Tilly says seriously as I give her my undivided attention as she flies over to the blighted castyr napping in the corner and hover above its body.

"Now I want you to focus all your energy towards this creature and push your mana into it. It will feel really strange at first and the castyr might feel some pain but trust me Kyle, this is something that's good for all of us." Tilly says as I begin to do as she said and shove my mana towards the castyr.

At first the mana just swirled around its body then dissipated but after a few minutes of trying to move it into its body the mana started to slowly melt into the castyr's fur. As the mana begins to melt into its body the poor creatures eyes fly open as it begins whimpering and screeching in distress. I begin to stop from worry but Tilly yells at me to keep going or the castyr will actually die, so I start pushing even more mana into it's body as it begins to change in front of us. The blighted castyr lets out a roar as my mana finally bottoms out and it begins growing slowly at first but faster by the second. After a few minutes the creature in front of us is a much fiercer and more dangerous looking creature as it looks around with a new predatory glint appears in its glassy eyes.

The castyr still resembles a capybara but its now twice as large as it was previously. Its body is now broader and hard muscle is packed along its legs and neck giving it a more intimidating look. It's bushy tail has shed the fur and is now covered is a multitude of sharp, spikey quills that shine with a liquid poison that drips from them onto the ground. It's fur has changed from a dusky color to a pitch black with dark green stripes along its back, its claws are sharper and instead of the brownish liquid more of that green poison drips from the claws. Its snout has elongated too looking more like a badger or canine now and its original buck teeth are now sharp spikes that remind me of a sabretooth.

"Fantastic! Now this is a pretty good outcome for your first boss! Go ahead check it out Kyle and you should also move this guy to that boss room you made and limit him to that room. Bosses are naturally more aggressive than normal mobs so when you create one you have to limit where they can be or they'll attack things as soon as they enter denying the rest of your mobs the chance to grow and it can cause potential adventurers to blockade the dungeon due to an unfair level of difficulty." Tilly says as I focus on moving the new creature to the empty room and order it to only move around that room and to not leave. As it explores its new home I focus on its status again and also its description.

[Species-Venomous Night Touched Castyr]

These species of Castyr are rarely found in the wild and are a mutation caused by one of this species absorbing massive and extremly fatal amounts of poison and disease. Instead of being infected to a slow death these mutated creatures instead absorb the properties of the toxins causing its body to strengthen as well as produce a potent venom. Due to this mutation these creatures become extremly aggressive as well as territorial, attacking any creature that enters its perceived territory. The only exception to this is if they have a mate or younglings nesting in this territory in which case they will defend them until victory or death.

[Venomous Night Touched Castyr Level 3 Hp-300 Stamina-160 Boss]

{New Boss Blessing or Skills}

Berserk Mode-When creature nears half health it will fly into a rage dispelling all status conditions, increasing natural recovery by 100%, and increasing attack speed and power by 50%

Venom Fling-Creature produces extremly toxic venom on spikes or as globules and flings them at a target. If done with a spike or other object will cause piercing or blunt damage.

Territorial-Creature gains stealth until its first attack against an enemy while in its marked territory.

'These new skills are really cool Tilly, but if it's stuck in the same room why does it have territorial?' I ask in confusion.

"That's simple really, as a first boss at your level this guy is super strong and challenging but as your dungeon grows and you add more floors and bosses and mobs he won't be able to keep up unless he gains tons of levels and evolves. That means in the future you may swap him for a better boss creature and if you do you can make him a wandering boss which means you put him on a floor and let him choose his own territory and afterwards he wanders the entire floor and attacks others creating a rare challenge." Tilly explains as I nod along and get excited thinking about having this scary guy just prowling around my floors hunting bad guys.

'Wait if he's a boss doesn't that mean he's kind of special? Like an elite and a one of a kind creature here?' I ask after recalling some of the old games I used to play and remembering the goofy names most bosses had.

"Well technically I suppose your right. Getting this type of mutation is extremly rare so the chances of a second time are probably less than 5% so he might be special why?" Tilly asks as my core shines brightly.

'I shall name him Spooky!' I say as I laugh like a little kid before two messages appear in succession.
