Training Day

A couple minutes after I arrived to my room, a woman with a scowl poked her head in. We made eye contact before she wrote something down on a clipboard she had.

"Wren?" she grunted, sounding bored.

I nodded, confused.

"Be up and ready at 6 tomorrow."

With that, she turned and walked away, closing my door behind her.

My heart pounded in my chest. Why did they want me up so early? Were they taking me somewhere?

With a whimper, I curled up on my bed, suddenly nervous and not sure if I would be able to sleep.

That night was hard. I woke up constantly, startling awake in fear that it was past 6.

I finally rolled out of bed at 5:30 with a groan, my body desperate for more sleep. I trudged to my closet, and decided to put on a pair of grey sweats and a black hoodie.

Walking to the bathroom I found toothpaste, a toothbrush, and deodorant.

I brushed my teeth and applied the deodorant, for the first time in a couple days, and went to put my shoes on. I glanced at the bathroom, wanting a shower badly but aware that I had no time. I should have taken one last night, I think.

Once my shoes were on I sat on my bed, waiting.

About five minutes later, Apollo bursts into my room, locking his eyes onto me in a heartbeat. "Let's go." he says, turning and leaving as soon as he came.

I jump up and follow him, walking quickly and sometimes even jogging to keep up with his long strides.

"Apollo...where...where are we going?" I ask, still struggling to keep up.

Apollo glances at me before frowning. "Training grounds." he grunts, swiftly walking down the stairs.

I nearly breath a sigh of relief. I was happy that they weren't taking me back to the cellar or somewhere worse than this, though I had no idea how brutal the training grounds would be.

We had walked for a couple of minutes before Apollo had opened a door and was gesturing for me to step out. "Just a reminder," he says "You don't leave this building unless you are given permission." He walks past me and down a long path covered in vine archways.

After another couple of minutes, the pathway opens up to a large field, covered in dummies and different training equipment. There was even a huge obstacle course that looked like it had mechanics that moved in the far corner.

I look around as two more people like me, along with people like Apollo joined us on the field. The sun had barely began to rise, and the air was crisp.

I was wise to have worn a hoodie.

Apollo steps forwards, along with the other instructors, or whatever they were. "Today marks the start of your training." Apollo says, looking at all four of us.

We blink at him, eyes wide, not sure what to expect.

"It's going to be long and hard, and we are going to push you until you feel like you have nothing left to give."

The boy to my left shifts nervously, and the girl to my right glares at him.

Apollo glares back at her and she eventually lowers her gaze.

"Just remember, you were chosen and brought here for a reason."
