"I am very curious to see mom's reaction," whispered Lisa, laying under a blanket while Louis was in the shower.
Nothing was above the feeling she was experiencing at that time.
"See you tomorrow, mom," she muttered and closed her eyes.
Getting out of the bathroom, Louis found her sleeping peacefully, so without making any kind of disturbance he went straight to bed, pulling her by the waist, hide the face in her neck.
"Good night!" and pecked her forehead.
______________
The next sunrise, Ava woke up with a stomach ache, it was unbearable so, she hurriedly got up and without any morning routine, she climbed inside the car and drove to the hospital.
"Why am I having stomach ache out of blue?" she whined in pain, one hand was on the steering wheel and the other on her belly, pressing it hard on her stomach.
It was hard for her to continue driving, but having none by her side, she had to do that by herself. Every passing second was making it hard to live, being by herself in that house, The days were difficult for her to pass, even though she hid all this from his daughter, Whose hand did she hold in difficult times?
Every moment was like feeling death for her, everything as if it was on the verge of ending, but she stood strong with the hope that she would live for longer so, it made her bear those suffering.
She moaned loudly when she realised that she made it to the hospital. Quickly she took long steps to the room.
"Hello, Doctor?"
She was a regular patient as well as she was in pain so no one dared to stop her before entering the room.
"Are you in pain?" the doctor asked.
She nodded instantly and leaned her head back with the support of a chair.
"NURSE? NURSE?" the doctor yelled.
"Yes, doctor?"
"Make sure that operation room X is ready for the operation," the doctor instructed her.
"Alright," the nurse whispered, and ran to make arrangements for the operation.
"Wait?" the doctor stopped midway.
"Yes?"
"Bring me her file from the reception and try to contact her guardian, fast," the doctor said.
"Yes, doctor,"
"Just wait for a moment, " the doctor said, examining her condition.
"Hey, Give me the file of Ms Ava?" the nurse asked the receptionist. But what was surprising there was Louis's presence.
Hearing the name, he glanced sideways at the nurse and his eyes unconsciously fell on the file with her name, he was there for meeting up with Lisa's doctor as she phoned him for taking the report files.
"Excuse me? Can I ask about the person?" he asked in a worried tone.
"I'm sorry but I'm in a hurry, please," she said and got inside the room.
"Here," she handed him the file and got out for the preparing the operating room.
Following the nurse, he knocked on the door of the room, getting attentive to the sound, the doctor glanced and said "come in"
Assuming it as his imagination, but he dared to ask the doctor, who was busy reading the file.
"Excuse me?"
"Yes?" the doctor mumbled.
He could not match up with the face of that lady as she was back facing him.
"Doctor, I can't find any contact of her guardian?" the nurse said, entering the room.
"But we can't operate on her without their assurance," the doctor said.
"Aright, you take her in the operation room, hurry up. We can't let someone die," the doctor guided.
"Aright," the nurse muttered and allowed her to lay down on a stretcher. He groaned loudly seeing her mother-in-law's face, without any further delay, he tried to call her and went beside her.
"M-O-M?" he uttered in a broken voice.
Opening her eyes, she looked at him and a thread of worry took over her.
Her hands started to shake because she thought that Lisa would come to know her, might she was with him," she thought.
"What happened?" he asked bending down.
"Promise me you won't tell Lisa," she spoke in a low tone, she was not feeling pain anymore because of the drugs.
He lost in his thoughts about her words but nodding quickly he paid attention to her.
"I have stomach cancer and maybe today I have to undergo an operation, I didn't tell her because she would get worried, I beg you not to tell her, and if I don't come back to life then please forward this message to her," she said, tears rolling down her cheek and she presented him a paper.
Don't be like that, and you will be fine. Trust the doctor, okay. You have to see your granddaughter too, don't lose hope please," he muttered and the nurse excused him to get her to the operation room.
"Pleaseeee save her, doctor," he begged the doctor.
"We will try our best but the infection is getting worst each passing day. I won't say that I will be able to save her but I won't take a step back in proving my best," the doctor said and moved away from his sight.
He lost his hope after letting his words fall into his ears and sat on the chair and ran hands through his hair locks.
"Don't let her experience the pain again, God," he grumbled and tears left his eyes.
With trembling hands, he held that paper.
Waiting outside the operation theatre, he stayed calm, hoping for the best for her mother, he made sure to text Lisa about his late appearance tonight.
He was getting worried and his hands were sweating at the fear of losing her.
When he noticed the red light turned off, he got up from his seat. After five hours of operation, the doctor got out of the theatre.
Taking off the mask, doctors sighed and moved towards him.
"How's she?" Louis asked.
_!_!_!_!_!_!_!_!_!_!_!_!_!_
"Take this, Lisa. I guess this would make her puzzle in guessing the gender," Louis's mother said, pointing out a dress in the mall.
There were out shopping, as well as trying to get the stuff for her mother, surprising her by guessing the gender of the child.
"You are right," Lisa whispered and endorsed to take her dress.
Paying the bills, they got out of the shopping mall, Lisa sighed loudly.
"It was so good with you," Lisa praised her for helping her with the dresses.
"That's all worthy for my daughter,"
She giggled and climbed inside the car, "Let's go to surprise her," his mother whispered and started the car.
Unknowing the fact that she wouldn't be surprised but them.
"She would be so happy, mom," Lisa added.
"Of course that's obvious for every mom to get excited, knowing that their daughter is soon to be a mom,"
"Here we go," she whispered, after one hour of driving, they reached the house. Stepping up towards the entrance, their giggles were heard.
"So excited to see her reaction," Lisa said and knocked on the door.
Pausing for her, they stood there for over five minutes, "Where is she?"
Pressing the passcode, she unlocked the front door and got inside the house.
"MOM? Here's your daughter. Where are you?" Lisa yelled?
"Let me check in her room, she must be sleeping," Lisa said and passed a smile to her.
"Go, check fast,"
She nodded and headed upstairs to check her but opening the door of her room, she was hit by the disappointment, then she moved to her room but again no sign of her.
"Mom? She isn't here. Try to call her," Lisa asked her mother to give her a call.
Stopping for her to pick up the phone, but Lisa noticed that her phone was in her room as the sound of her phone was audible to her ears.
"Her phone is here too but where is she?" Lisa muttered.
"No worry, try to call Louis, maybe he asked her out," mother suggested.
"Yeah, he told me that he would get late," Lisa said and took out her phone from her pocket but before she could dial his number, he called her.
Smiling at the phone screen, her hand slid the screen to answer the phone call.
"I was about-"
Louis didn't let her complete her sentence as he blurted out the thoughts in his heart.
"Can you come to the hospital?" he spoke.
"Why?" Is something wrong with the baby?" she talked.
"Don't ask questions just come to the hospital, please," he expressed and then a beep sound fell in her ears.
"Mom, I have to go to the hospital right now," Lisa spoke.
"But all of sudden?"
"I don't have any guess, he asked me to come there, I can smell that something is not right out there,"
"Don't worry and Let's go. I can't let you go there alone,"
To dissipate the gloomy atmosphere, she asked her to drive fast to the hospital.
"Relax Lisa, he must be planning to surprise you maybe. Don't worry without knowing the fact,"
"But his voice is making me worried, mom," Lisa whimpered.
She gently coaxed her and asked her to stay calm.
"Don't worry so much, it won't be good for your child," she spoke.
Running her hand on her belly, she smiled sadly.
Worrying in the whole drive, she didn't know what to utter and looked outside the window.
"I hope everything is fine, my baby," she uttered under her breath and looked at her bump.
"Let's go, Lisa. We have reached," mother said and both of them got out of the car.
Running towards the doctor, her eyes fell on a familiar figure and stopped in her way to look after that person.
"L-O-U-I-S?" she screamed and ran to him.
His sight didn't turn to look at her but instead faced the ground.
"Tell me. What happened? Is our baby fine?" she uttered and tried to catch her breath.
"Speak up. I am not here to face your silence," she raised her voice a little at him.
"Louis, please speak up something. Your silent look is making us worried," his mother uttered but instead of uttering anything out of his mouth, he got up.
"Why aren't you replying? We aren't mad that we are constantly asking you," Lisa said, more and more anger poured out through her words and a tear rolled down his face.
Lisa turned him to face her by his shirt and noticed his teary eyes.
"Hey, why are you like that, what happened? Tell me. Is something wrong with you?"
"I don't know how to tell you, Lisa, but please try to stay rational," finally he let out the words.
"Alright, but what is it?"
Louis raised his head to look at Lisa in the eyes. Lisa denied the case in her heart if it was something she was imagining in her head. The fear of losing whatever little she had then but she wronged her thoughts and pulled her attention to Louis.
Forwarding the letter that her mother asked him to give it to her when she wouldn't make it to her life again.
"What is it?" she grew suspicious at that, but she didn't agree to take that letter.
"Tell me what is it? please, Louis?" she begged.
He again pointed at that letter and looked at her in the eyes.
"Take this, please," he uttered.
Taking the letter away, she opened that letter with trembling hands and again looked at him out of confusion.
Finally, looking at the letter and started to take her mother's words to her heart.
