Chapter 6 Tall, Blonde, and Handsome

I was pulled into the tank with one of the many members of the Blood Cult. The feeling of fear was there, but now there was a different feeling. I was calm and safe with him holding my hand as I didn't fight with him on the way here. I didn't know why, but it was something that made me feel better. Soon as we were inside, he sat in one of the many seats as he let go of my hand. I looked at him as I held my gun close to me.

"You don't need to use that," he said with a calm tone in his voice.

"Why should I trust you!" I sneer at him.

"It better me, than with them," he answered and started to look around the tank for something. I could only think he was looking for the keys or a weapon of some kind. But it didn't take long as I saw his gun on his hip and along with a high school ID. So he was around our age but seemed to have something else in mind.

"Tell me why you saved me," I questioned.

"Been watching you for a few days," he answered, "The Blood Cult told me about you and how you destroyed one of their many bases. But that's not why I saved you."

"Really now," I scoffed, "Why did you save me then?"

"To see the cute girl who seemed to live from a zombie bite," he answered

"How did you…." I tried to speak.

"I watch you get bitten," he replied, "I was waiting to see if you were going to turn or not. Since you didn't, you're the key to a cure."

"Cure?" I answered, "Really?"

"Yep," he laughed as he walked towards me with a smile. "The names Jones, Jones Wilson."

"Lize Rockwell," I replied with a half-smile.

"Good to know." He replied as he pulled his hood off. I never thought of the sigh of blonde hair and bright green eyes would make me blush. I dated a couple of guys before and I don't think Arron and me are really dating. Sharing a kiss is different than wanting to be together every step of the way with one. His eyes looked at me with a glint of happiness in them and he could tell something was up as I stared. The thought of liking someone scared me, but the topper was that he was still a part of the blood cult.

"Still don't trust me that much?" he asked with a coy smile.

"You're still a part of the blood cult," I answered with a frown but failed to keep myself from blushing too much. All he could do was smile as he finally found the key to the tank. It was still in the air if I was going to be killed or let go at this point. He didn't seem like a bad person, but it could change any minute as I sat there. The roaring of the tank made me jump as he waved me over to a screen.

"We're lucky that this had cameras and not windows," he said with a laugh. I didn't understand what he meant by that as he drove through a group of zombies. He told me to man the guns, but I didn't know how to use them as we continued across a line full of zombies. Wouldn't this thing be out of fuel at this point or not be loaded?

"Think of it as a video game," he said with confidence, "move the stick and then push the button at something."

"Isn't it dangerous?" I questioned.

"Only if you don't get us killed," he replied and moved us out of the area. I heard the group of them follow as I moved over, finally pushing the button. The loud noise made me shiver as I watched the bodies fly in the air. Death was something I'll never get over, even if I kill zombies. They used to be human as they did things we did, now all they care about was their next meal.

"Good work!" he called out to me.

"Yeah…" I said softly, "Thanks."

The ride was quiet as I knew where we were going. My home, base, but also my prison for a while now as I wanted to be free. I looked at him as he watched the road. We were lucky that some of these zombies could think under pressure and retreat to their nests. The thought of being killed was there, but the real question was who was Jones? He knew how to use military stuff but was our age at this time. The closer I looked at him the more I see who he was as he focused on getting me home.

"Tell me how you…." I tried to speak but failed as a smile came crossed his face.

"I was put in boot camp," he answered, "You know for troubled children like me in a way."

"Oh…" a came out of my lips, it was soft yet calm as I felt the ride come to an end. I looked at the camera as we were outside of the base as I saw my friends filled with fear. I looked at him and looked back as I tried to find the right words to tell them. He looked at me with a smile as he has gotten up from his seat.

"Time for you to go cutie," he said with a smile.

"Will I see you again?" I said without thinking as he came closer to me.

"You sure will," he answered as he opens the hatch, "but it'll be hard on both sides for us to meet."

"You don't have to go back to them," I said with hope in my voice.

"Being killed by them is worse than the zombies," he replied as I felt something warm against my lip. A smile came across once again, knowing that it'll be real soon to see him again.

"Promise me that you'll meet me again," I said as I climbed out of the tank.

"You'll see me again," he assured me as I was finally out of the tank and on the ground. A smile was planted on my face as I walked towards the gate I felt the ground shake as he left. Jade was upset and the others were confused about what just happened. The feeling of pain was gone for only a little bit, but it was no different for me. I felt free as I felt Jade shake me over and over asking what the hell just happened.

"You have to explain why you just came in with a tank!" she yelled, but all I did was smile.

"Went to the military base," I replied, "and made new friends on the way. He saved me from a hoard and chilled in the tank till I got home."

"I told you to stay here!" she snapped.

"And it seems like I don't listen," I replied as I walked back inside for some needed rest and food. Soon after I'll deal with Jade's wrath and hope for that visit one day.
