Chapter 5 Old Military Base

Jade seemed a lot better overnight, but it seemed that she still wanted me to stay here. I had my bag packed with ammo, water, food, and maps of the area. The thought of staying on the base made me shiver as I knew that Arron, James, Colt, and Jade were going to be going. I heard that Ace was worried about making room for a baby and making sure it was to her liking. I couldn't wait to see my niece into this world, but it also scared me. Learning that the zombies were mutating and growing stronger made me worry as I could handle them on my own. This Echo gene made it easy for me to live in this world, but the others still had the chance of turning.

"I thought I told you to stay here," Jade's voice called me out of my thoughts.,

"And I said I was going no matter what!" I snapped and headed for the bus, "If I stay here any longer. I think I'll go crazy from all this work."

"You're staying!" she snapped as the others started to pack onto the bus. I watched as he closed the door in my face. Her smile was evil as I knew that she wanted me to snap, so I let them go. I was going to go on my own anyway as it could help me think for a bit. The roar of the bus as it left made me feel alone as I have seen that she was taking over our friendship again. She wanted it to be only her in line, as I wanted it to be both of us helping our friends. Soon as they were gone, I sighed and push the gate open and closed. I was outside of the walls, and it felt nice to be free from confinement. I walked towards the old military base, but it should take about thirty minutes to get there and avoid them seeing me.

The air was nice, but the feeling of being watched was on my mind. When I left or was outside of the base, I had this feeling. The feeling of being watched and that they wanted to come up towards me. Taking time was all I could do as I knew that they had to deal with hoards of zombies. They would most likely leave the area in about ten minutes when I get there, as it would be too much trouble to get in with brute force. I know Jade is headstrong, but she should have thought about sneaking in and out without them knowing. Fear drives them to us, but without it. It makes us stronger as a group, but to make sure it doesn't go over our heads.

I watched the sky become darker as the day passed by without a care. After a while it made me feel okay as I saw the base in front of me. It was near the college and that made it a problem. Students could have turned and stayed in that area. The smell of bodies rotting both humans and zombies made me sick. Nests were a problem as it becomes closer to the breeding season and that mean more killings were about to begin. I hated Bitches before, but when it came around this time it was worst. Jade and I dealt with this before once and they were brutal to kill.

Soon as I had got past, I looked over to see if the bus was there. Lucky it wasn't, but it was a good chance for me to sneak in. I wanted to grab any ammo and maybe a couple of guns for home. The thought of Jade yelling at me didn't change my mind. They want and need of being free nagged my skull as it happens over and over as I walked closer to the base. I didn't see anything, but the smell told me what I knew.

"Fucking great," I mumbled under my breath, "Nest is starting to become a pain in my ass. Burning them does nothing, so we'll just have to keep away from them."

I hopped over the fence and walked slowly to one of the many buildings for something of use. But at some point, I hear something fall over, but when I turned. Nothing was there. I knew that I was being followed, but soon as I got inside, I grabbed a flashlight from the ground. Military-grade, which mean it was going to be brighter than the ones at home. I pulled out my gun from the side of my bag and walked slowly to the middle of the room. There were bodies everywhere on the ground I saw that were bitches everywhere sleeping. Their stomach with bumps and younger ones with them. They were weak but would still try to get at your throat if given a chance to. We called them killers are I heard they took out survivors on their own without giving up.

I walked carefully to what seemed to be a desk before as it was covered in blood and guts. There was something under it all as I slowly started to move things away. It shined under my light as the blood fell off it, a Millimeter pistol with only a few things missing. At this point, it was a good time to pull back and check another building in better hopes of finding parts and ammo. Soon as I left the sound of something falling made my heart stop, thing time moving fast was all I could do now. I carried myself across the building and to the door, shutting it with a slam as they started to move and cry out for the others. They knew I was there now, and I was very alone at this moment.

As I ran, I felt my arm being grabbed to the side as a hand covered my mouth. Fear shook my heart as I saw red, a red cloak of the Blood Cult. By what I could tell he was taller and more muscular than me but that doesn't mean I won't die without a fight.

"If you want to live," he said with a shaky voice, "you better come with me."

All I could do was glare as he grabbed my hand and pulled me towards a tank in good condition. If I was going to be locked up in a place like that with him made me very scared. He could kill me for his so-called god, or he could be trying to help me in the first place. But another thing made me a question. How did he know I was here?
