Chapter 12 Ace Needs Help

The feeling of sheets was under me as I lay with nothing on as the sounds of my walkie-talkie going off. I thought I turned it off last night, but I guess I didn't. I looked over to see that Jones was still asleep as well, but I forced myself to see what was going on. The closer I got to it the louder it got as the sound of Ace panicking. He kept calling my name and for me to pick up.

"What…" I groaned as picked up. The sound of him panicking lowered, but it came with Jade calling for Ben to hurry.

"She is having the baby!" he called out as Hanna screamed for him to be by his side.

"On the way!" I said as I ran back into the room. I was finally going to be an aunt once again, but I had to hurry. Jade seemed pissed and scared, and I could tell that Ben is trying to keep Hanna down. So, putting on whatever clothes made sense was all I could do. Jones lay there but was somewhat awake as he watched me get dressed.

"Where are you going?" he asked

"Base!" I said with a bit of panic in my voice.

"Why?" he asked with concern.

"Hanna is having her baby," I answered as I was about to leave the door. But I turned to kiss him on the cheek and ran out the door. I had my keys in hand and my knife on my side I don't think I was going to need anything else. Soon the sound of the engine roared as I turned the gas on to full force. The feeling of the cold morning air was like knives, but I wasn't going to miss this day.

I pulled the gas as far as I could to make it. Running past every zombie I saw, but never stopped to make it to them. The feeling of panic and happiness was inside as I got closer to the gate, which now had the power to keep the undead out. The sound of it shaking and cracking was overwhelming as I saw Martin on the other side with a wide smile.

"Welcome back," Martin chirped as I drove right on in.

"Tell me what's going on?" I questioned

"Hanna went into labor," he said as he pulled the gate closed. Soon after I got off my bike and ran inside. Hoping that she was okay and that Ace still had a hand at the end of the night. We couldn't give her medicine to release the pain or increase contractions as we were forced to do it the old fashion way. Ben was telling everyone to give him space, hot water, towels, and whatever he was needing for the time as screams came from the old vet clinic of Wally World. She lay there holding Ace's hand like it was a lifeline as pain shot through her body. Murder was in her eyes as she looked at him, cursing him if he tried to leave her.

"Ace," she said with a cold voice, "you put another one in me after this. You better hope I don't come with a knife and cut your balls off."

"Hanna…" Ace tried to speak, but couldn't as his hand was being squeezed to death. It was black and blue and looked like it was broken on all levels from her. Ben told her to let go and that they were going to see if they could do anything to make her feel better. Ace was free now, but his hand was broken and needed to be put in a cast as Ben was too busy keeping Hanna calm and relaxed.

"Ace!" I called out to him.

"Thank God, you made it," Ace cried with a smile.

"You know I wouldn't miss this," I replied.

"Yeah," he said softly, "Hanna is being…."

"Being overwhelmed with pain," I answered.

"Yeah," he sighed, "I wish I could do more for her."

All I did was smile as he finally sat down on the ground and the sounds of screams became more prominent. Pulling him up and setting him down on a chair instead of the floor. He held his hand in pain, but he seemed very happy for this day. And that everyone was ready to see the new little girl or boy come into this life. But all I could do right now was wait with Ace till the baby is born.
