Chapter 19 Liam's Call

It's been weeks since I took that test and hid it behind the toilet in the house. So far Jones hasn't found it there. But I could tell that he was getting worried about me as I started to eat more and threw up from time to time in the morning. He hasn't asked me to take a test for him yet, but soon it would come to an end. We still had to do missions for the cult, but further our hate for them as we were forced to capture people.

I even learned from Jade that Arron killed himself over grief from hurting me. It made me shiver as it reminds me of that day outside with him. Stopping me from cutting and that cursed kiss that happened between us. A part of me was sad that he was gone, but I didn't go to the funeral like the others. Jones and I stayed home, waiting for a call to action from Liam. Lately, the cult has been falling more into murdering and kidnapping people for their God. It didn't feel right as I would be asked for these missions but would always walk away from them.

Liam had a good number of members that wanted to be free and to live their lives somewhere else. Blood was shed for far too long as I sat there watching. Jones would be placed in dangerous missions that could have him killed at any corner, but always came back fine. For once I want this to end as I branded an X over their mark. To me pain was normal, but we finally heard from Liam that action will happen in two days. Freedom from Karen and her group's power, but still had held in other places. We had people in each one, ready to set off bombs to take out the churches and their leaders.

The sound of Liam's voice made me jump as he called for both me and Jones to answer. Something had to be wrong as I called for him to the living room. He seemed to be out of it as he panicked about someone leaking the information about us. I took this as we would have to be more careful about who we talk to.

"Who do you think it is?" Jones asked, worried about what would happen to us. He seemed to be concerned more about my well-being than his own. His body speak anger and fear as he spoke to Liam.

"Who are you closest to?" I asked.

"My girlfriend Jasmine," Liam replied without a thought.

"Don't speak about anything to her," I replied, "till we knew that she is safe."

"Okay," he said softly, "She won't like me not talking about it."

"Two days we'll take out their five main churches," Jones said hopefully, "soon this will be over."

Jones was different at this moment as he told me that everything was going to be fine. That we would be at peace once and for all. I knew that he cared and wanted me to be safe as I watch him tell Liam to watch his back. He seemed to be planning something and I knew he wasn't going to tell me about it any time soon.

"Babe?" I called out to him, "you know we'll be at the church for her meeting."

"I know," he said, "and I won't let her keep this suffering any longer."

I watched how he acted as it seemed that he didn't want me there. I knew why he was acting this way but wasn't going to stand down from this fight. But my thought was broken as I heard a faint squeak from Squeaks. His body was skinny as I took the teal berries away from him after the mill, but it seemed to be getting worst. His fur was falling off and his movement was weakening by each day, almost not moving at all. I was worried as I tried to feed him other foods to get his strength back. All I could do was wait.
