Chapter 26 Radio Call

It had been a week at home, but the way Jones acted made me more annoyed. But there were times that we would walk around where we lived or go on supply runs. Jones was happy about our lives with one another, and I was too, but I also needed space. The feeling of being free would make me laugh and think a lot more clearly. This time it felt like I was being punched in the gut. There were times I walked around the yard alone and made me feel sad as I couldn't go as far.

But one day Ace and Colt came to see me and check up on how I was doing. They seemed happy as I ran over to get a hug from each, wondering why they were there. They seemed to have good news for me as Jade wanted me to go to the base as soon as I could. I didn't understand why she needed me, but I was going to be there for the group. Even if Jones disapproves of me leaving the house. So, when they showed up in the jeep, I saw it as a chance to go and get some air.

"So, what's so important that Jade needs me?" I questioned them.

"Martin got the Radio in his office fixed and a weird call keeps coming in," Ace said with a sigh. "It's driving Jade nuts, and we can't get a hold back to them."

"And why does she need me?" I frowned

"She thought you might know the person who's making it," Colt quickly replied.

"Fine," I said, "but you know very well that Jones is coming along."

"You make it sound like a bad thing," Jones huffed as he wrapped his arms around me and rolled my eyes.

"I miss the Sweetheart who let me do things on my own," I answered as I went to the jeep with the Ace. "You can come along if you want!"

There was a pause in thought as he walked towards his car. Showing that he was going to follow so we could both get home safe and sound. The sounds of our car moving across town made me feel calm and even safe. Ace and Colt wanted to talk but didn't know what to say or do as we got closer.

"Heard you're going to be having a baby," Ace said with a half-smile.

"Yep," I answered, "Jones seems to be worried about both of our health."

"Been there," he replied, "I barely let Hanna do much after a month. But I got to the point of trusting her."

"Really?" I said with hope in my eyes.

"Yep," he answered as we got closer to the Wally World base. It has improved since the last time I was here. They set up a couple of greenhouses outside and even stables for animals. The idea of our home was the same but different at the same time as we finally drove through the gates. Towers stood on each corner of the fence like a castle's defense in the Middle Ages. The sounds of horses, chickens, pigs, and cows sounded all different to me as it had been a while there.

Jade wasn't outside with Jaxs or James as they worked feeding animals or watching the wall. I barely knew where everyone else was as they did their things around the building. When we got out of the car and walked to the doors to the main office. Inside was different as the smell of smoke was gone and it seemed quieter than normal. We would always be laughing about something that one of us did or a memory from the past.

Jade stood in the office with tired eyes as she looked at papers over and over. Never knowing that we were in the room I looked over to see what she was doing. She had a map of different locations that needed to hit for supplies to last a couple of months. They required more canned goods, spices, building supplies, bottles, and jars to last them for months. The only two places that I could tell them were the sawmill in town for wood and Old Mart for the other supplies. She seemed confused about what was a better plan as she had notes everywhere on the floor and table.

"You should hit the mill and Old Mart," I spoke as she jumped out of her chair in fear but calmed when she saw me.

"Lize!" Jade said with a frown, "Where the fuck were you!"

"A meeting in hell," I answered, "You shouldn't have trashed our house."

"You shouldn't have disappeared!" she said with a frown.

"Just show me why we are here," I groaned as she placed a paper with the location and name of who was making the call. Wyatte Rockwell, one of my nephews had called for survivors to find them and join their group. I took the page with a smile as I turned to Jones as he had a feeling about what was going to happen. Jade on the other hand wasn't happy as she pulled my arm and glared at me. She knew that I had not seen them in years, and I was going to take this chance to finally see them again.

"You're going, aren't you?" she said with a sneer.

"They're my family," I replied as I turned around, "Just like how you guy is my family as well."

"Doesn't seem like it," she replied.

"What do you mean?" I questioned

"You rather be away from us," she replied

"Because you see me as a monster," I answered

"What…" she stuttered after I spoke my mind out.

"You treated me like a monster that should be locked away or thrown out." I spoke with anger, "We were a team and you treated me like I was not a part of it, so when I left you didn't like it. Now you act like I should crawl right back to helping you lead the group like before. Living in a prison with no one cared if I was okay. I'm going to find them to make sure that they are okay. Nothing is going to stop me from that."

Her eyes widened as I turned away from her and out the door with Jones. He looked sad as he knew I had been with them since the very end. The sounds of Jade screaming for me to come back, but I didn't as we had gotten into the car and headed for home. We had a lot of planning to do after this day. I wasn't planning on coming back for a long while not till I got to see my nephews were still alive.
