Gu Hao, Lena, and Alice continued to bolt up the stairs. Fortunately, the invisible existence chasing them paused for a bit, or they would be caught by now; however, they chase is still ongoing. Not only that, exhaustion has began to settle in from the extreme exercise, especially for Gu Hao who was weakened by constipation. Not long after, Gu Hao felt his body weaken and almost tripped over. Fortunately, Alice who he had helped along the way seemed to have noticed this and reached out to hold him up, but this caused the trio to pause for a moment.
"A-are you okay?" Alice asked while panting with tears in her eyes.
"Sh*t, now now," Gu Hao couldn't help but moan as his eyes were bloodshot, feeling a cramp forming on one of his legs.
Lena grabbed onto the other side of Gu Hao and pulled him along while commanding, "I knew these guys were unreliable!Alice! It's up to us now!"
Looking upwards, Gu Hao saw the door to floor 4 not far ahead. Seeing the bloody foot prints catching up, he gritted his teeth and yelled, "Go! The fourth floor door! We can only put our hopes on that!"
Lena and Alice saw the door. Without hesitation, Lena yelled, "Go!"
The two ladies hurried up the stairs while dragging a limping Gu Hao along. Due to their slowdown, the bloody foot prints have caught up and began to cover the wall in front of them. The sounds of footsteps seem to be right behind them!
At this moment, Gu Hao reached into his backpack with one hand, pulled out a bag of dog blood he prepared before, and threw it down the stairs. He didn't know if it would work, but it was all he had.
Splash! The dog blood splattered on the staircase right behind them. It wasn't known if the dog blood was effective or if the invisible existence didn't want to dirty its shoes, but the echos of the footsteps stopped for a moment. This gave enough time for the trio to reach the door to the fourth floor. Lena quickly opened the door and shoved Gu Hao through the doorway. Alice dashed in with tears of hope and Lena followed while trying to pull the door shut; however, Lena almost fell backwards due to the counter force as something seemed to be holding onto the door to prevent it from closing!
Seeing Lena falling backwards, Alice hurriedly reached out and grabbed her arm to stabilize her. Lena glanced at the timid girl with gratitude, "Thanks Alice, I knew I could count on you."
Gu Hao weakly crawled on the ground while he watched this scene. At this point, he happened to glance into the mirror that was dangling on his waist. The mirror happened to be reflecting the doorway, and outside the doorway, Gu Hao saw an unknown number of pale, corpse legs all stacked on top of each other, forming a wall of legs. Each of the legs were writhing around by the doorway, as if it was trying to squeeze through the door.
The thirst for survival pushed Gu Hao to force himself up. He ran forward awkwardly while yelling, "Oi! This isn't the time to for chit-chat! It's coming in, run!"
Alice's face paled once more and she froze in place while staring at the doorway. Fortunately, Lena ran passed her and pulled her along, awaking her from her stupor. Not long after, bloody foot prints began to appear on the walls near the door.
Lena and Alice focused on the elevator at the other side of the hallway as that was their hope to escape, but it seemed that Gu Hao had other plans. Running past a familiar opened doorway, Gu Hao ran inside immediately and hollered to the two ladies, "In here! Quick!"
Lena and Alice almost ran past the doorway, but suddenly skidded to a stop. Staring at the elevator that was still far away and glancing back at the bloody foot prints that had already covered the hallway behind them, Lena gritted her teeth before pulling Alice through the doorway.
Gu Hao hurriedly slammed the door shut once they went through. He locked the doors swiftly and then scurried away from the door, falling onto his butt. Staring at the door with bloodshot eyes, Gu Hao panted rapidly in fear that the bloody foot prints will go through it. Lena hugged Alice as she stared at the door also with tears in her eyes. After all, they are now a fish on a chopping board if the monster gets in.
Soft sounds of foot steps resounded from outside before it came to a stop. A moment of silence ensued, causing the trio to hold their breathe. Thud! Something seemed to have slammed into the door from outside. Gu Hao scrambled backwards on all fours in fear. Thud! A blood foot print slowly began to fade in at the center of the door with each knock on the door. The two ladies whimpered in fear as they closed their eyes in horror. Tears leaked out of Gu Hao's eyes as he stared at the door while stuttering in a low voice, "P-please help us. Please help us. I know you are there ..."
Suddenly, a shiver went down the trio's spine as they heard different pitches of loud screeches outside the room. The sound of the knocks on the door was completely drowned out by the screeching. The screeches continued repeatedly as if it was communicating or warning something.
After an unknown time of screeching, the bloody foot print on the door faded away. The echos of foot step gradually faded away outside. After a couple of minutes of silence, the trio finally breathed a sigh of relief. Gu Hao collapsed onto the ground as he chuckled, "S-survived."
Lena and Alice hugged each other in comfort. Lena then pulled Alice over to a corner opposite of the bathroom and sat down to recover. Seeing this, Gu Hao glanced at the bathroom as he muttered to himself, "Did that thing help us?"
Unseen by the trio, Pro was standing at the doorway to the bathroom wiping the sweat from his face, "Holy sh*t! Of all the place you kids could have led that thing, you had to lead it to my room?! Almost scared me to death! If it wasn't for my neighbors acting up and scaring it away, I'm afraid I might be planted here today."
Patting himself on the chest to calm himself down, Pro glared at the boy with glasses laying on the ground. As if he could feel his gaze, Gu Hao shivered on the ground. Pro could hear Gu Hao mutter, "Please don't hurt us, we are just innocent bystanders."
"Innocent bystanders my ass!" Pro couldn't help but growled, but he was helpless.
He only intended to raise some free laborers to advertise for him, Who knew that the building would be so dangerous, causing his laborers to have an amazing adventure, and even almost causing his ship to capsize by bringing an honored guest to him. When that invisible existence came, Pro took a peek by sticking his head through the wall and was able to see a giant lump of corpse legs all clumped together by the door.
Not only that, a warning popped up from the system, saying that he has encountered a strong existence and it was suggested that he flee. If he could flee, Pro would have done so already! But if he did, he would dissipate!
Fortunately, it seems luck was on his side as everything seemed to end well. Pro scratched his head as he considered, "Am I really that lucky? Is it because I'm the protagonist? But if I was the protagonist, I wouldn't have died so easily and became a ghost. I should have been reborn or something!"
Pro then glanced at the trio in the living room, "Could it be one of them?"
Blinking his eyes, Pro studies the trio one by one. Staring at the wimpy kid with glasses, Pro almost ruled him out immediately, but remembering how it was him who suggested to come into his room for safety, Pro couldn't help but compliment that his instincts were on point.
Then, glancing at the strong spirited Lena who was comforting the teary Alice while thanking Gu Hao for leading them to safety, Pro couldn't help but put them into the template as the heroines. As for the missing muscle brained idiot, Pro attributed him to a cannon fodder that would only serve to bolster the image of the protagonist. It seems he did his job well before being giving the bento box by the author.
"I couldn't really be so unlucky to bump into a protagonist right?" Pro muttered with a frown, "If so, what kind of template is this? Will it be the kind that will grow up and come back to seek revenge? But I didn't even do anything to them, maybe make him have a bit of constipation, but that's all ..."
Pro's mouth twitched, but then a system message popped up.
[An invader is attempting to enter your domain. Will you allow or deny the entry?]
Pro blinked his eyes in confusion, "It seems that I get the choice to prevent invaders from entering my domain? I didn't get any message when the humans entered my domain, what's up with this?"
Pro floated through the wall and came to the bedroom wall before poking his head through it to take a look. Taking a simple glance, Pro saw a corpse with black hair hanging on the wall and scratching it. The corpse's head suddenly twisted 180 degrees to stare at Pro's head popping out of the wall and the corpse waved its pale hands with sharp black nails at Pro's head.
"Holy sh*t!" Pro cursed before swiftly pulling his head back in, dodging the swiping claw of the corpse hanging on the wall outside.
"Oh hell no am I letting you in. Shoo, shoo, don't come into my domain," Pro muttered while backing off.
The system prompt then disappeared as if confirming Pro's thoughts. Pro then frowned as he thought, "That thing is probably a neighbor of mine. I've lived here so long and it didn't seem to come bother me. Why now?"
Floating back into the bathroom, Pro glanced at the trio in the living room, "Could that thing's target be them?"
Suddenly, Pro heard some scratching noise from above the door to the apartment. Glancing over, Pro saw the corpse was passing through the top of the doorway using a ghost's translucent state. It then crawled on the ceiling like spiderm*n towards the living beings in the living room, but no matter how you look at it, it doesn't look like a hero.
Pro's mouth twitched as his thoughts flowed, "Could it be true that one of them has the protagonist's aura? Even if you escape alive, fate just throws another thing at you?"
Seeing the translucent state of the corpse, Pro then glanced at the trio and noticed that they did not notice that the corpse was getting closer to them at all. Pro then crossed his arms as he watched the show.
"Well, seems that they can't see it. I wonder how they are going to survive this time? Who will save them now?"
