Gu Hao's Ambition

"We'll be alright Alice, don't worry," Lena comforted before glancing at Gu Hao.

Although she knew that guys were very unreliable, but she got to admit that this one was somewhat reliable brain-wise, even if it's a tiny weensy bit. For some reason, the notion that everything was due to luck completely slipped through her mind.

"Thanks to you, we managed to escape. If we had continued to the elevator, we might have been caught before the elevator opened," Lena said to Gu Hao with gratitude.

Gu Hao blankly stared back at her before sitting up from the ground. He scratched his head awkwardly, "Naw, it's nothing much. We were just lucky."

"Mmm," Lena nodded as she glanced at Gu Hao.

Looking at this thin arms and geeky glasses, Lena did not feel the sense of disgust that she usually felt towards men. Unlike the buff muscle-headed idiot that betrayed them at the critical moment, this man that looked weak at first held on to them even at the most critical moment. He could have closed the door and left them out to die, but he bravely waited for them. Remembering how he still persisted even while limping in pain, a small smile rose on Lena's face, enhancing her charm as she said, "I really didn't expect you to be stronger than you look."

Charmed by Lena's smile, Gu Hao stared blankly for a bit before blushing, "Hahaha, it's nothing. It's just my dad trained me for a while, so I still picked up some things here or there."

"Hehehe," Lena giggled, causing Alice to look up from her bosom blankly.

Alice glanced at Lena, blinked her eyes, then glanced at Gu Hao who had a blush on his face. She tilted her head a bit and her eyes began to sparkle with gossip even though there were still traces of tear on them.

"Your dad was a policeman wasn't he? And you said he actually came here?" Lena asked.

"Yea, there was a couple of cases he had to handle here. He mentioned it over dinner a couple of times, and he warned me about it. It was from this that my curiosity was aroused, and after seeing the post, I decided to come here. Who would have known it would be like this," Gu Hao replied with a sad smile, "I should have listened to my dad's warning and stayed away from the hidden side of this world."

"The hidden side of this world?" Lena asked with curiosity.

"Yea, there is a hidden side to this world that deals with all the supernatural things. I only got clues that it existed, but now after this event, I have confirmed that it does," Gu Hao explained.

"Oh? What type of world is it?" Lena couldn't help but ask.

"It's a world where people can gain super powers of some sort, but I'm not quite sure what it is as I don't know much about it," Gu Hao answered.

"Super powers? It's real?" Lena widened her eyes in shock.

"Well, ghosts are real aren't they? Why can't super powers be?" Gu Hao said with a chuckle.

Lena froze for a bit before also chuckling, "Haha, well if it seems it really does exist."

Gu Hao smiled as he stared up at the ceiling with a grin, "Yes it does, and I hope I find a way into it soon."

"You still want in after seeing all the horrors in it?!" Lena exclaimed in shock.

"Of course. That was my original purpose for coming here. Also, I want in for sure. I don't want to be as helpless as this time when facing those things. I want the power to protect myself, and to protect those around me ..." Gu Hao said with firm conviction while glancing at Lena.

His eyes just so happened to lock with Lena's, and the two glanced at each other while their heart beat resonated. Blushes appeared on their face and they turned their gaze away from each other.

"Ahem," Lena cleared her throat as she brushed her hair with her hand, "W-well, if you do find a way in, don't forget to bring me along. I also don't want to be a burden to the ones around me."

Gu Hao stared at the ceiling while peeking at Lena. After hearing her, his face lit up as he said, "Of course."

A weird atmosphere arose between them as their eyes locked again, but it was broken by Alice who chimed in, "Me too, me too!"

Snapping out of her thoughts and blushing, Lena flicked Alice on the forehead and said, "Of course silly Alice."

"I-I'm not silly!" Alice whined as she held her forehead and glared at Lena, causing her to giggle.

Gu Hao smiled at the two girls as he glanced back at the ceiling as he sorted out his mind. Suddenly, his eyes squinted as he stared at the ceiling. He managed to see chips of dust falling off of the ceiling. Gu Hao swiftly glanced down and aimed the mirror on his waste at the ceiling. Through the mirror with the sparse light from the kitchen, he actually saw the corpse monster crawling on the ceiling! Even worst, it's tongue was dangling out over Lena as if it was about to pounce on her!"

"Lena! Watch out!" Gu Hao howled in fright as he dived over, pulling Lena into hsi embrace, and rolling out of the way with her.

"Eh?" Alice tilted her head in confusion as she watched Lena being snatched away.

Psh! Alice then felt something pierce through her body. Her eyes widened in shock as she looked down to see a tongue piecing her chest. She slowly followed the tongue upwards towards the ceiling to see a rotten corpse fading into existence.

"W-what?" Alice whimpered.

The tongue suddenly shrunk back, pulling Alice's body towards the corpse. Alice turned her head and glanced at Gu Hao who hugged Lena on the ground, "W-why?"

Then, the corpse waved its hand with sharp, black nails at Alice and then Alice saw the world spin around her as a wave of blood splashed onto the nearby wall.

"Alice! NOOOO!" Lena yelled in tears from the side as she saw Alice's head get cut off.

"Sh*t!" Gu Hao cursed as he swiftly opened his backpack.

Although he didn't remember when he tossed the flashlight during the earlier escape, fortunately, he stashed the wrench back into his bag when he went to the bathroom. He pulled it out, held it firmly in his hands, and pulled Lena behind him to protect her, "You f**king monster, come at me and I'll turn you into mince meat!"

The corpse's heard turned 180 degrees to stare at the two weak humans below. It's tongue flicked out of it's mouth and waved around like a snake as it grew longer, as if preparing to strike once more. Seeing this, Gu Hao gave up the thought of a melee fight, and he threw his wrench at the corpse's head while pulling Lena to dodge to the side.

Surprisingly, the wrench hit the corpse's head as if it had aim bot. This cause the corpse's head to deviate to the side by a bit, causing the tongue that it spat out to miss the duo by an inch. It pierced the wooden table instead, getting stuck in it. Seeing this, Gu Hao hurriedly pulled Lena towards the kitchen. He quickly searched a drawer and pulled out a kitchen knife. With a grim and angry face, Gu Hao ran back out despite the persuasion of Lena.

"Gu Hao! No!"

"Ahhhhh!" Gu Hao charged at the tongue, bringing the knife down, and cutting the tongue through the middle.

SCREEEE! The corpse screeched in pain as it dropped from the ceiling while brandishing its tongue around randomly. The tongue just so happen to swipe and hit Gu Hao, knocking him flying into the wall and causing him to dramatically spit out a mouthful of blood.

"G-Gu Hao!" Lena rushed up to Gu Hao who was laying weak on the ground.

Gu Hao could only smile weakly at Lena and whispered softly, "Go. Leave me here."

"No! No! I won't! Gu Hao, I won't leave you!" Lena howled in grief.

Then, her eyes sharpened as she picked up the knife laying on the ground nearby. She turned around and faced the monster while trembling, "I-I will fight you!"

Staring at her trembling figure, Gu Hao grabbed her leg and muttered, "D-Don't be stupid! Just go!"

Tears ran down Lena's eyes as she cried, "No, you're the stupid one! I won't leave you. Alice is gone, you are all I have. I don't want to lose you, too. If we are destined to die, then let us die together."

Gu Hao stared at Lena's back as his eyes glowed in happiness, and a trace of fullness filled his heart, "Alright. I promise to be with you whether life or death."

Lena glanced back with a smile as tears rolled down her eyes. She then gripped the knife even tighter as she glared forward while standing in front of Gu Hao to protect him.

A wry smile then appeared on Gu Hao's face as he took in the despairing situation. He then glanced at the monster that was gradually recovering its stance in the middle of the living room. Watching the monster twist its head to glare at Lena, Gu Hao couldn't help but pray softly while glancing at the bathroom, "I-I know you are there. Please ... save us. I promise I will repay you in the future."

Standing at the bathroom doorway and watching the show, Pro stared down at Gu Hao in shock, "He can see me?!"

Blinking his eyes and taking a step to the side, Pro realized that Gu Hao's eyes didn't move at all. It seems that he was just staring into space. Pro breathed a sigh of relief as he almost thought he lost his ghostly powers.

Watching the helplessly weak Gu Hao leaning against the wall, Pro's mouth twitched as he recalled what the boy said about repaying him, "Well sh*t, what wonderful instincts. It seems that it's this type of lame ass protagonist template. After surviving a deadly situation, the protagonist quickly rises in power. Not only that, it's also buy one get one free as the protagonist also gets a heroine that falls in love with him just cause they went through life and death together. And to survive this deadly situation, a miracle will happen as the guardian angel of the protagonist will jump out to help him. I guess I'm the f**king guardian angel of the protagonist for this part of the plot?!"

Pro scratched his head in frustration as he glanced at the corpse monster that was prowling in the living room as if it was a wolf about to pounce on its prey. Pro then sighed a bit, "Well, I'm not sure I want a protagonist to repay me as who knows what sh*tty trouble he will bring to me, but if they all die here, there would be no one to advertise this place, and it might attract another wave of exorcism. If I do manage to save him, maybe I can even be marked as Casper the friendly ghost, and I guess I could also use this chance to test if my ability will work on other ghosts. I will have to clash with these neighbors of mine sooner of later."

Then, Pro activated and set the corpse monster as the target. The yin energy was drained from him, but there wasn't any prompt that it succeeded so Pro can only wait and see.

"It's all on luck my friend, if my toilet attraction doesn't work, then your life is up to fate."
