Chapter Thirty-Three

A few days went by, and the letter hadn't come. Caroline had a little flicker of hope, that maybe the rumors were true. Maybe she was mad. That hope was quickly snuffed out as Edmond walked into the dining room. She had already begun eating, and had not rung for him. In the pit of her stomach she knew why he had come.

“This letter arrived for you and the Count dismorning while you were resting in the garden.” Edmond says, holding the letter out to her. Caroline hesitantly takes it from his hand. "Thank you." Caroline opens the letter, and unsurprisingly, it was news from Sir. Elton's disappearance. Caroline hands the letter back to Edmond. "I'll be returning to my bed-chamber, thank you for the meal." Edmond bows to Caroline as she leaves.

"The diary, I have to finish reading the diary!" Caroline thinks to herself as she runs up to her bed-chamber.
