Chapter 09

Chapter 09: Lucky You

Meri's POV

She what? Who did she say she was?

I yelled at the blonde girl, "HEY, BLONDIE. DON'T YOU EVER JOKE WITH THAT NAME. I TELL YOU, I WILL MAKE YOU REGRET IT."

She smiled softly, "Calm down, Adara Meri. It's really me, you don't have to yell like that."

"NO...NO FRICKING WAY, YOU'VE GOT TO BE JOKING."

Arga faintly shouted from the next class answered, "STOP COPYING ME."

She lifted her shoulders, shrugging away. "I'm serious."

"Well, if you really were her then it wouldn't be hard for you to figure out the nickname I gave her as a kid."

She stood silently in front of the class, speechless. "I... Don't remember."

Suddenly Daffin's voice startled me as he scolded and lightly hit my arm, "You idiot, she just woke up from her coma, how can she immediately remember small details like that."

"Right, sorry if I forced you to remember everything."

A thin smile was formed on her face, "It's alright, mom told me to bring this photo and show it to you, although I can't remember clearly, I'm sure we are very close friends."

A photo of two girls in an amusement park was plastered in her hand, making me tracing the photo that she gave. Instant flashback took me to that moment. 10 years old, the age where everything feels new, the early phase of our youth. Keiysy's mother took us there, an amusement park opened not far from where we lived.

Because it had just opened, the park was crowded with people who were curious about the various rides available there. The first thing we did was go to the merchandise store and buy a pair of cute headbands and a princess dress that was very shiny and pretty. Keisy took a bunny headband with a small crown in front of it which was very adorable, while I chose a purple headband with fuzzy cat ears and cute little flowers on the sides.

We started riding a very large Ferris wheel and also riding a pony in one of the petting farms, there were rabbits, ostrich, elephants, and also some exotic birds because opposite the zoo there was an animal parade that week. Burgers and yummy desserts became our choice to fill in our stomachs, not to mention their super fluffy cotton candy in various shapes and colors which melts when you eat it. Before going home we took some photos, the two little girls in purple and pink dresses hugging cotton candy and their favorite stuffed sea animal that was bought at the aquarium, posing with smiles that seem to never fade from their faces, they look so happy.

The girl who claimed to be Keiysy then ran up to me with outstretched arms, ready to hug me at any moment. Tiny sobs can be heard from both of us, more and more turned into a loud cry. As she pulled away, I can notice right away that not only she got taller but she got skinnier as well. Her cheekbones and her dimples are now becoming visible than ever.

"Dude, what happened to you? You got prettier even though you've only been sleeping for the past few months. Tell me more later, okay?"

She winked then giving me some protests, "Do you know how many bowls of porridge that I had to eat? It makes me really sick, for real though I would rather eat broccoli for a year than have to eat that porridge. its bland taste and texture that is too mushy make it seem like it's no longer porridge, plus my stomach has just been working to digest new food other than the one given through the IV tube."

She really dislikes broccoli, hearing that she prefers broccoli over the porridge, it might taste really bad. Keiysy and broccoli, they never had any good memories together. Until now they remained the way things were back in the old days.

"I feel you, dude. I think you should stop your storytelling before they all throw up."

The blonde-haired girl then looked around at the rest of the class who already feel nauseous from hearing her story, and there were quite a lot of them who were about to throw up, "Ah, okay okay I'll stop. Sorry guys, hehe."

Anyhow, the class got started with Social by Mrs. Shaz, then English, Math, and Spain followed after. I used to really look forward to it until recess came by, but now I'm very worried. The fear of regret that comes at the end follows relentlessly. The long class was finally over, I turned to see Keiysy who was sitting behind me, pulling up some random chats.

I slowly asked, "It's break time already, aren't you hungry?"

Her eyes flashed with tenderness as she asked me back, "Canteen? Sure~"

But I declined, "No, absolutely not."

She frowned, "Why? I thought you would go wild for Julia's pizza...Or at least that's what Abi told me."

"I was, but that was a long way before you got into a coma."

Her gaze fell on the floor while pressing her lips to close, "Is it because of me? Am I the reason you don't want to go there?"

"Of course, what if something happens to you again? What if Ayu still hates you and wants to take revenge on you? I just don't want you to get in any kind of trouble. You just got here, remember? At least not today."

A reassuring smile was given by her, "Thank you for concerning me, but I'm fine...Really."

"I don't know, I'm not sure enough."

Her round large puppy eyes were shown to me, "Oh, come on. I know you're hungry from the moment the bell rang."

"Can't we just go there tomorrow?"

The girl breathed out in defeat, "Alright, promise me?"

"You have my word, in the meantime why don't we call your twins to grab us something to eat?"

A nod of approval was given by her, as her tummy agreeing as well. "Looks like my belly can't wait any longer. "But how come it can be this complicated, even though we only want to go to the canteen?"

A giggle came out of my mouth from hearing her silly reply, "You silly, you're not even fully recovered yet, do you want to faint there?"

A smirk was sculptured on her lips as she plays her brows up and down to make fun of me, "Nope, I don't want that for sure. Anyway, is there something that happened between you and Arga? You both seem to get closer than before~"

"Nothing happened. Unfortunately, we're still friends."

Not long after, the person we were just talking about arrived in class with two large bowls in his hand, shouting, "Special Delivery."

He informed, "They ran out of pizzas, is tomato supper will be enough for you guys?"

I glanced at the plastic red soup bowl that probably had 75% tomatoes and 25% fried chicken pieces inside, then turned to look at Keiysy, "I'm cool, what about you though?"

She nodded firmly, "I haven't eaten tomato soup in a long time, thank you."

With his breath out and hands perched on either side of his waist, he raised his thumbs-up, "Now that Keiysy's here, you can't be unhappy, okay?"

Small pats that repeatedly landed, on the top of my head, was felt, my head lifted just to see his face from a distance that I never imagined it would be this close in my life to make this friendship with him. Without both of us know, a staring contest began, until finally it was interrupted by a scream from outside the classroom. Jaya was the source of the noise, he was the one who called him to hurry back to the canteen before they ran out of time.

Arga shouted for the last time before heading out of my class, "Eat a lot."

We were slurping out the suppers that were brought by the delivery guy earlier. I decided to talk about some random stuff that came into my mind since half of the class was empty, "So...? What do you think of the new guy?"

She asked back, "What do you mean?"

"You know if he's cute or is he your type?"

After shoving a spoonful of soup full into her mouth, she answered. "Well, he's cute."

Hearing her short answer, I was surprised, "What? That's it? Just cute?"

She licked her spoon clean then put it on her chin, leaving a red spot from the too-thick tomato before laughing in response, "Yeah, I guess. What do you want me to say?"
