Chapter 2 Duality

In that moment all he could do was watch the door close before his very eyes. No matter what he tried the door wouldn't open, and he knew why. In a raid dungeon there was an unwritten rule that all under the system must abide by. To keep the boss from escaping into the real world, once closed all who are inside are unable to leave except for one condition, you must kill the boss and leave before it respawns, but for Bojing this was very much an impossible feat.

Although a player there was one factor that always held him back. To grow stronger, you must be able to kill monsters and gain exp. For whatever reason no matter how hard Bojing would try all his attacks did zero damage meaning he could never gain an ounce of exp. Not even party exp share or potions would work. For this very reason he was branded the only F Rank Player and his level never increased from level one. This was what made killing the boss an impossible feat.

In this moment he was prepared to die, and was waiting for the finishing blow to come, but it never did. Turning around he felt the gaze of the boss simmer down. The boss looking completely calm lowered their hand back onto the arm rest and grinned a malicious grin.

" So, it seems you were left to die human, let us have a chat. " ( ??? )

In that instant the deep feeling of dread completely faded away. In that instance he saw a glimmer of hope, a possible way out of this situation. Maybe the boss knew something he didn't.

" You want to talk? You could just end me right now; you know that right? " ( Bojing )

The monster leaned back letting out a bellowing stream of laughter.

" Bwahahahaha, you are probably right, quiet possibly I could end you with but a thought. " ( ??? )

The monster was serious and Bojing could feel it. The power emanating from him plus the display from earlier made that painstakingly clear.

" So why don't you then? " ( Bojing )

" For one specific reason, you were betrayed by your comrades, something I detest more than anything . " ( ??? )

" Wait, what do you mean betrayed? " ( Bojing )

Immediately after the words were spoken an eery silence fell across the room, when a sudden realisation formed in his mind, causing him to collapse to his knees. What the boss was saying made complete and total sense, but who would do such a thing. The question continuously flickering through his mind but to no avail, for he had no proof but the force that collided with him.

Looking up to the beast he had but one question…

" How do I leave this place? " ( Bojing )

" I think you know the only way. " ( ??? )

Bojing did, but there was no way that was going to happen. The unwritten rule was absolute. Staggering to his feet he felt sick in his stomach. Why was he left behind? Why did they do that to him? These questions replayed over and over in his mind, but still he couldn't come to any conclusion. Why did this happen? What did he do?

Amongst his intense anxiety a strong sense of rage began to take over. All the while the boss watched on, it's smirk fading.

" How could they do this to me, after all I have done for them… How could they. I hate them, I hate them, I hate them, I hate them; I hate them! " ( Bojing )

For the first time in a long while Bojing felt a strong sense of hatred for people.

" Dammit, if only I could get out of here, I would make them pay. If only I was stronger. If only I wasn't classless! " ( Bojing )

After hearing those words, the boss condensed his power, transforming into the body of a human.

" Is this true? Are you truly classless?

Bojing looked at the human that now lies in front of him. This was something he had never seen before. Monsters aren't human and as such can't transform into one. For this to happen there could only be one explanation.

" You are… human? " ( Bojing )

The boss looked into Bojing's eyes. His face gentle and kind.

" I am… at least I once was. " ( ??? )

" What do you mean you mean you once were? " ( Bojing )

The monster stared into the distance and started talking again.

" Back when the system first appeared we were all humans. Whilst most humans became players, a minute few morphed into monsters. Although still human we were treated as filth, as hunting targets. We were hunted by players seeking thrill, it was hell. Ultimately, we decided to take refuge in the dungeons and were eventually sealed for eternity by players, under the vies of being a threat to all life, just so they could enjoy their slaughter indefinitely. " ( ??? )

Bojing couldn't help it, from his eye a single tear rolled down his left cheek. How could the Players do this to them. The very same players that he had associated with.

" Now, I have answered you question… please answer mine. Are you truly classless? " ( ??? )

Without a moment's hesitation the words left Bojing's mouth.

" Yes, I am the one and only classless player. " ( Bojing )

A bright relieved smile spread across the bosses' face as he burst into a happy laughter.

" Bwahahahahaha, I had no idea there was still someone alive who possessed duality. Hey… I know of a way for us both to break out of here. " ( ??? )

" How… and what is duality? " ( Bojing )

" Bwahahaha, it is easier if I show you. " ( ??? )

Reaching out both his hands energy formed into that of a status window. On his right hand the panel appeared bright green but on his left hand the panel appeared deep crimson.

" Duality is the ability to both possess powers of players and monsters in one body. The reason you are classless is due to your inability to use both powers in harmony, meaning only your player side is active as of right now, but do not fret. I know how to unlock your hidden talents… . " ( ??? )

" How do I do that exactly; I will do anything to get out of here. " ( Bojing )

The boss monster chuckled a bit, then looked at Bojing with a straightest face he had ever seen.

" It is quite simple. " All you have to do is absorb me as your monster status, although it will be painful, and the chance of success is small. " ( ??? )

" Wait, what… absorb you?

" Of course, you were raised by players so they wouldn't have told you. Any monsters someone with duality kills must absorb them to get stronger, it is just the way it works. No wonder your still level 1, geez. " ( ??? )

Looking at the door Bojing clenched his fist. Now everything makes complete sense. So that's why he wasn't growing stronger. He wasn't defected or glitched but rather he just wasn't following the right method. Although there was still one thing he wanted to ask.

" You said you could break out too but won't you die during the absorption? ( Bojing )

" No, I will be integrated into your system as the first monster absorbed, meaning my current physical form will disappear making the doors open. " ( ??? )

" Ok, then we have nothing to lose… let's start! ( Bojing )

With yet another slight chuckle he reached out his hand for Bojing to grab, as he instantly does. As soon as the two connect a burst of energy flashes out from them both.

[System: Do you wish to commence the absorption?]

" A system message popped up; I never get those. Ok, I accept! " ( Bojing )

[System: Permission granted… Commencing Transfer Now.]

A bright green energy flowed through the bosses' hands into Bojing as is body began to fade.

" Oh right, I forgot to tell you. My name is Wang Yong. I look forward to working with you. " ( Wang )

" Hmmm, my Name is Bojing Feng, I can't wait. " ( Bojing )

With his body now completely assimilated a message from the system popped up. All Bojing could do was sit there in disbelief . For so long he tried his hardest to grow stronger, when just like that he had found a way to do so.

" I wonder what I will get. " ( Bojing )

" It should be quiet the upgrade. " ( Wang )

[System: Transfer Complete… Skill Tree Added… New Status Screen Added…Duality Has Been Acquired...Level Up Confirmed…Tank Class Obtained.]

[System: Commencing Teleportation.]

" Huh… Telepo- ? " ( Bojing )
