Chapter Twenty Six

The streets are quiet here, aren’t they?” Amaris remarked as they turned another corner. Ever since they left the docks, the streets felt empty. Save for a few open stores, the town looked abandoned. They’d barely glimpsed anyone walking around and the air was eerily quiet.

“That is strange.” Ash said.

“Is it not always like this?”

“Peritia harbor is usually less crowded than other towns. But it’s never this empty.”

“Do you think something is wrong?”

“I don’t know.”

Even the windows of the houses and apartments had their shutters closed. But none of that mattered as she saw the huge red mansion at the end of the street. Next to the door, was the number twenty five big and clear. Her steps slowed and her breath caught as she watched the house getting closer.

“So that’s the one, huh?” Ash stopped and she turned to face him.

“I think so.”

They both stood there, neither one sure what to do.

“I will miss you.” She finally broke the silence.
