I woke up to the sound of BTS's Butter playing next to my head.
I groan out loud, saddened to be disturbed from my dream about a hunky male model, with his glorious six-pack abs and his sharp v line like a blinking neon sign down to his...… I blush furiously; as I remember the steamy dream, almost forgetting about the person insistently ringing down my phone.
I almost forgot I even brought it with me.
Rolling over, I peer at my phone to see the culprit who woke me was my mom.
Her beautiful smile was the first thing I saw when I answered her call. Her bright energy automatically increases my mood and a smile just as big as hers spread across my face.
"Hello my precious daughter," her melodious voice rang into my ears.
"Hey mom, how have you been?" I smiled at her.
"How have I been?! I should be the one asking you that. Do you know how worried I was? Weren't you supposed to call me?" she asked in one breath.
My smile instantly drops as I notice her serious tone, I roll my eyes at my mother's antics.
She is such a fusspot.
"Mom" I groan. "Please don't lecture me right now, I just forgot. There was a lot that happened."
"Bonnie Anastasia White don't you mom me, I was worried about you," she says sternly.
Cringing at the sound of my full name being used, "Mom do you remember when I fell down and got the tiniest scratch and I had to comfort you and stop you from calling the ambulance because you thought I could be internally damaged."
Huffing, "I was really worried ok" pouting she sighs, "Ok ok, maybe I do have a tendency to overreact, but can you blame me? You are the only one I have."
"I know mom, you are the only one I have too, as much as I am going to the ball for myself, I am also doing it for us, if I find my mate then maybe he can take us both, and we will finally belong to a pack again."
After some idle chit-chat, my mom and I say our goodbyes and I begin to get ready for my day.
The ball is tomorrow and I need to get a dress and proper lodgings, I can't keep living in the forest like an animal, although I technically am one.
I head to the stream to wash off and begin to air dry myself as I walk back to my tree to get the clothes I 'borrowed' last night.
I really wasn't paying attention to the clothes I was grabbing considering my only options for clothing are some thigh high-socks, a men's shirt, and boxers.
I peer at myself through my phone's camera, my hair matted with leaves stuck everywhere.
I tried to make myself presentable but when it comes to my wet hair and air I stood no chance. The shrinkage was unbelievable.
Shrugging I head towards town, barefooted of course after I gather up all my belongings.
As I step onto the street, I could hear people muttering and laughing beneath their breaths, staring at me pointedly with no regard to me. I can only imagine what I looked like to them.
I quickly hop into a dollar tree and bought myself some flip-flops and feminine products, most importantly deodorant because... you guessed it I forgot that too. Then find a quaint motel and book a room, making sure to lock the door behind me.
I begin searching stores for the perfect dress going to the usual Forever 21 and H&M not really finding what I wanted. As I was about to give up and just go in jeans and a tee-shirt, maybe even just my knickers, that would surely get my mate's attention, I spot a small shop at the end of an alley.
Debating whether to go in a light rain begins to fall, and I take that as a sign, I quickly jog towards the store to escape the rain wiping my shoes on the mat before fully stepping in.
When I look around finally my jaws drop, I wasn't expecting such a beautiful place inside. The warm brown interior and furniture gave the room a cozy feeling, the scented candles placed sporadically around the room gave it the smell of a bakery after cakes have been made. The walls, lined with shelves and filled with gorgeous dresses. Vases of cattleya angerei, daylilies, and lady banks roses adorned the store giving it a beautiful pop of colour.
A soothing voice startled me, "Welcome dear" I turned around so quickly almost giving myself whiplash as I faced the owner of the said voice.
My eyes met a kind-looking woman who looked to be nearing her 60s standing behind me. I didn't hear the door open and I didn't smell her or anything. I mean maybe I was just so caught up in the beauty of the place I didn't hear her come in.
Yeah, that must be it. Please let that just be it.
I shakily replied, "Hello, um I am looking for….," I am cut off by the old lady answering, "Yes dearie, I know, and I have just the thing" with the slightest twinkle in her eye and a knowing smile.
"What in the world" I whisper, taking a step back as she twirls around and goes towards the back of the store.
I stared at her back with confusion written on my face as I weigh my options of following her or getting the hell out of there. I watched Hansel and Gretel way too many times for me to do this shit. Besides, I can't die when I haven't even held hands with a boy much less done the deed, not on my watch.
I turn on my heels deciding on leaving when I feel a pat on my shoulders, I jump about 10 feet into the air and grab onto my chest twisting into a defensive position waiting for; whatever attack was coming my way when I see the old lady standing there with a smile on her face and a gorgeous dress in her hand.
I automatically knew it was the one, it was a long, sleek, one-shoulder black dress, the top half adorned with beautiful crystals and a jaw-dropping slit running all the way to the waist.
Definitely can't wear underwear with that.
