Isn't It Stupid

Rita moved her head to a more comfortable spot on her brother's shoulder's when she spoke. Ryan looked down at his older sister. "But you have your head on a man's shoulder." Ryan said. Rita smiled and replied "You're not a man." "That it. Head up." Ryan slightly pushed his sister's head up but she kept it on his shoulder. Ryan stopped, he let Rita continue to rest on his shoulder as silence filled the room. Rita broke the silence "Isn't it stupid. I mean I've heard bad things happen to women but it's never felt this close before." She bit her lips then said in a very low voice but audible to Ryan "To think my own mother was sold." Eunice told Ryan her story when he came back. After that Eunice started acting different. She did thing she really wanted to do. Like taking a long walk and returning home late, exploring places in the neighborhood that they've lived for fifteen years but Eunice never got to reach there. She acted freely like a slave free from shackles. It was good for her bet disturbing to her kids who had never seen this side of their mother. It turned out that Eunice liked exploring things but the only thing she could explore was the garden she had worked to maintain for years. "I know things feel different. But don't you think mom would feel guilty if you end up being lowly cause she opened up." Rita knew her brother was right. Their mother would feel guilty. The story was meant to make her wiser not reserved. Probably why her mother had never liked to share her problems with them. Rita sat up reliving Ryan's shoulders. "Besides you're not like mom. You know what to do." Ryan said, reassuring his sister. Rita was not really a feminist but she was a strong woman in her own way. She smiled at her brother who turned to give her a last look before leaving. Rita picked up her phone and sent Rex a message. A few moments later it rang. It was Rex calling. Rita later flat on her bed before answering the call. The call would probably take the whole night as they had a lot of things to talk about.
