Chapter 55: Battle Survivor

At first, everything seemed so fine. But Chu Hua's behaviour became more and more strange that he couldn't brush it off any longer.

She would come home late, so exhausted, saying she always works late and that her boss would often make her do extra jobs that aren't part of her role.

There were a lot of changes in her body too; she got thinner and haggard that Mr. Wang worried about her health.

She's often awake late at night.

Sometimes, she'd even return home early in the morning with a jacket on. She became more and more worn out with her weighing eye bags and slumped shoulders.

Mr. Wang couldn't help but feel anxious, so he asked her if she wanted to go to the hospital.

"I'm fine," She would always say, forcing out a sweet smile that she used to display on his worries.

But that smile didn't seem to work any longer because of how she looked. It's weary and dull. There wasn't a glow anymore and it felt sick.

Mr. Wang didn't want to burden her any more than now, looking at her state, so he tried to get an appointment with a psychologist to receive therapy for the treatment of his trauma and nightmares.

"I see, that sounds great," Chu Hua replied after he told her about the therapy plan. "It's good you're trying to get over your war trauma. I'll support you. Take as much time as you need and don't worry about me."

Mr. Wang brushed his fingers on her long, black hair and kissed the side of her forehead. "Thank you so much. I'm so lucky to have a wife as beautiful and kind as you. I was so sure you'd understand."

Since then, Mr. Wang became focused on his treatment and therapy.

A few days later, his parents invited him to their home, baiting him by saying that his siblings would love to spend some time with him too. Mr. Wang couldn't refuse, so he accepted the invitation and visited them during lunch.

"How are you and your wife?" His mother asked.

"She's as pretty and warm as ever," He answered, smiling from ear to ear. "I can't believe how lucky I am to have such a perfect wife. She loved me since we were young and even through the war, she waited for me. And now, she helped me a lot with recovering from my traumas. I don't know how to thank the world for her existence."

"Look at you, so merrily in love and smitten," His mother teased. "Well, I'm glad you're getting better now. I heard the war is so corrupt. You'll definitely need your wife."

He shook his head, "I wouldn't know what I'd do without her. I wanna grow old and stay with her for the rest of my life, mom."

Mr. Wang ended up staying in his mother's house for much longer than he thought.

He was even invited for dinner, which he couldn't refuse, because his mother just had to serve his favorite meal.

And so, with some takeout food and souvenirs from his mother and siblings, he finally bid them goodbye with a smile and a light heart.
