Chapter 56: Battle Survivor

While walking back home, excited to see his wife waiting for him, something caught his attention.

He saw Chu Hua walking side by side with a man, who's holding a baby. Mr. Wang was confused at first, but he chose to trust his woman.

'I'm probably just misunderstanding something,' He shook his head.

While heading home, he stopped halfway and ran back towards the direction that they were going. He followed them until they stopped in a block in front of a large house. He saw Chu Hua kissing the man and later, smiling and chuckling with the baby.

The man was even caressing her head and hair. Chu Hua looked at him with bright and loving eyes.

Those were the kind of eyes that shone with beauty and light; the ones he saw before he went off the war.

Mr. Wang stood there, horridly letting the situation sink in, and was paralyzed in fear and confusion.

Chu Hua's eyes met his aghast gaze, which also bred shock and fear. But the woman seemed to recover quickly and as if to ignore it, she went inside the large house together with the man holding the baby.

Mr. Wang barely got home with his knees weakened.

He just sat in their dining area, holding on to what's left in his sanity. The sound of the clock ticking and the water clinking from the faucet were loud enough to irk him.

He stayed collected and desperately rationalized everything continuously.

Soon, he heard a noise from their entryway. Footsteps slowly came to find him and he saw Chu Hua.

They were silent for a while.

"Look, I can explain," She gently said. "That was… a friend. He helped me a lot while you were deployed on the battlefield. You have to understand me. It was really a hard time for me when you were gone!"

"Was the child yours? Both yours and that man's?"

The woman licked her lips, hesitating. "Y-Yeah… It just suddenly happened. I didn't expect it either."

Mr. Wang stood up and grabbed her on the shoulder tightly. "You didn't expect it?! And what, you also expect me to just be okay with that?! You didn't even think of me!"

Chu Hua winced at his grip as he cornered her against the wall. "It hurts, let go of me."

"Did you even think of how I would ever feel?! It hurts? How about me? You think I'm made of rock? Answer me! Why did you do it?!" His voice echoed throughout the area and the volume of his anger overloaded.

That night didn't end well for either of them.

Mr. Wang slapped her face so hard that she fell on the floor and he spat words that he couldn't take back anymore. Chu Hua glowered at him and fought back, scratching her nails against the skin of his arms. They yelled at each other that the neighbors could even hear them.

They cursed and fought that it messed up the whole house.

Chu Hua ended up bolting out and returning to the man she had an affair with.

And Mr. Wang was left angry, messed up, hurt, and humiliated inside that lonely house he built with his wife.

That night, he didn't sleep a wink and cried his heart out.
