Humble

I checked the time on wrist watch and saw that it was almost lunch time, and I looked over at Emilio to see him still busy typing away and I sighed.

Good thing Marianna had bought me breakfast or I would have been dead by now.

Hunger pains mixed with period cramps were no joke, and I was getting hangry.

I laid back on my chair with my hands on stomach massaging it when I heard Emilio came in, "are you ready to go?'

"Yes!" I exclaimed feeling relief and he just hummed in response for he was still typing on his phone.

We left my office and entered the elevator getting off with a ding.

"Maria hey" I greeted smiling when I saw her just in time as she was a leaving from behind the desk.

"Hey. Are you going out to eat with Mr. Martinez?" she asked and I nodded.

"Would you like to join us?" I asked and her eyes slightly widened as she looked over at Emilio then back at me, and I saw that she was about to decline, but I beat her to it, "please. I would love it if you came. It's going to be a lunch meeting with the shareholders and it will be boring."

"Uh I'm sorry Marianna, but if it's a meeting with the share holders I'm sure that I'm not welcomed. I'm only the front desk secretary."

"Miss Gustavo would you accompany Miss Rodriquez and I to the meeting today? Just to show her the ropes that's all." asked Emilio finally looking up from his phone and Maria's eyes once again widened.

"Uh-sure. I mean yes sir. I will."

"Good." said Emilio smiling, "we leave now."

I looked over at Maria at how confused and flustered she was, and I squealed holding her hands for I was so glad that she was coming.

"What was that?" she asked confused, "he has never invited me anywhere before even though I have been working her for the past 5 years."

"Relax girl. He finally sees your potential." I said and she laughed.

"Potential yeah. I'm pretty sure that he only did that because you wanted me there." she said and it was my turn to laugh.

"Maria what kind of none sense is that. Why would he ever do something for me? He just knows that I will mess things up and want you there to try and stop me that's all." I said and she gave me a knowing look.

"Right."

"Come on he's waiting let's-"

"Marianna!" yelled Emilio from outside cutting me off and startling the other workers, and I sighed rolling my eyes and Maria smirked."

"Go. Let's go before he has my head for dinner." I said finishing my sentence before we exited the building together.

The car ride with Emilio and I was quiet, but not like tension quiet.

He was busy typing away on his phone, and I was busy looking out the window enjoying the city view.

"Have you ever not been to the city Miss Rodriquez?" asked Emilio and while I was looking outside.

"Huh? Oh yeah. Of course I have. Why?"

"Well you are always looking out the window whenever we are driving so I just assumed." he shrugged and I nodded.

"So just because I am looking out the window like a puppy you assume that I am a country bumpkin?"

"I never said that." he said.

"But you implied it." I replied with my arms folded.

"Okay fine. I'm sorry. Forget that I said anything. Let's just start over and you just uhh, tell me about your family." he said and I sighed.

"I don't have any." I said and he looked quite surprised and apologetic just like every one else when they heard my sap of a story.

"Oh my. I'm sorry to hear that, but I mean surely you have a distant relative or something."

"Nope." I said popping the 'P', "I'm and orphan so it's just me. Yeah maybe I do have a relative somewhere, but I've been on my own for all my life so finding that out wont do me any favors now would it?" I asked chuckling sadly.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought it up."

"Nah. It's fine. I've learned to get over myself for it could have been worse. I have all my body parts and they are all functioning. I was lucky enough to make it to and through college and now I'm working with you so I guess that if there really is a God, the big man up there has been looking out for me, and I am grateful for what I have."

He sighed and lowered his head probably out of guilt for I know that his life was easy, "I admire your optimism Miss Rodriquez. It is quite admirable. Surely I have had it way easier than you, but there I was being ungrateful when my dad me my first car in a shade lighter than I wanted. I think I could learn a thing or two from you about being humble and grateful instead of being such an ungrateful bastard."

He looked me deep in the eyes and smiled and I did the same smiling, but my heart was also beating out of my chest.

Something had shifted in the air and I am sure that he felt it too, for the way that he was staring at me was very new.

Wait that rhymed.

He cleared his throat finally turning away, and I looked down at my legs then out the window for my cheeks and ears were on fire.

"We have arrived." he said after a few minutes of silence and I nodded humming adjusting my jacket and skirt, and exited the car as soon as it came to a halt and the doors opened.

He walked beside me at the edge of the side walk until we arrived at the door, and he gestured for me to get in first.

I guess that he probably had texted Maria where to meet us for I saw her sitting in the restaurant with who I was presuming to be the shareholders.

Okay Marianna here goes nothing.

Best behavior please.

We cant have any more mishaps on your behalf.

Especially not with the share holders.
