Chapter 4:

Awakening Shane found himself once more surrounded by darkness. The previous experiences flashed through his mind making him far calmer in the current situation. He knew he was in darkness but he was able to feel. The feeling was unique but this meant he was alive. He had successfully reincarnated.

With hope Shane tried to move his body or open his eyes but nothing responded. It could be he was reborn as a foetus and in the womb. However, he quickly disregarded the thought as he could feel what seemed to be wind gently caressing his new vessel. Maybe he was reincarnated into something non-human, he felt no arms or legs just a feeling of being present.

Shane began to change the way he should see. If he was no longer human, then he may have no eyes but there might be another way to see. He instinctively began to spread his senses which first occupied the darkness before going out unrestricted. As his senses spread, it effortless went through the darkness and into the outside world. Unlike normal one directional view he could see everywhere passively, encompassing 360 degrees around himself.

At least this would make finding threats far easier.

Looking at his surroundings he saw beautiful scenery which made all the pain and suffering seem worth it.

Just kidding, nothing could compare to that hell whole. Plus he felt something within his very soul, a feeling of wanting to let everything duffer and feel the same darkness he felt. Shane quickly tucked this away as he needed to be focused for future threats.

He was in what appeared to be a forest. His omnidirectional view seemed to stop at 10 metres. Anything outside this space seemed to be a black zone. He attributed this to the fact his sense could not spread further. The new way of seeing was very different compared to human sight. The colours and surroundings were brighter and he could see more details but at the same time he was not seeing but sensing.

Focusing back on the forest he saw tress and leaves delicately dancing in the wind and something unnatural flowing in the air. A stream of gentle blue light devoid of shape or form surrounded everything. Upon closer inspection he could see it was made up of shimmering particles which floated unrestrictedly in the air.

Focusing on himself he was surprised at what he saw. The place he could see was surrounded by soft blue silver grass gently moving back and forth. Amidst the grass was a patch of grey that stood slightly taller than the rest. Peering into the grey patch he could see it was also made of grass with tinges of grey, and amongst the oddly coloured grass stood one with more tinges of grey on its surface. He could clearly tell that this was him.

Sighing Shane understood why he could no loner feel his arms and legs.

This brought a new meaning to the word being a vegetable.

-----1 Day Since Soul Rebirth-----

In the past 24 hours Shane thoroughly explored his new body. He could feel the root networks beneath him and the feeling of absorbing nutrients was unpleasant to say the least. Having something diffuse into you from the bottom and flow up irked him the most. He could feel his stem like body delicately move with the gentle breeze.

In all honesty he felt fragile.

Other than that, he knew he could not see further than 10 metres because his senses could not stretch further. Also, he analysed the blue particles which fused into his body voluntarily as if coaxed by something. Shane found that as they entered his new plant form he felt rejuvenated and stronger with a sense of freshness.

Shane tried to interact and absorb more of particles and was delighted by their positive response. If someone could see they would find a stream of delicate blue entering a slim stalk of grass with tinges of grey like ants to a nest.

He mainly spent the day trying to familiarize himself with this particle. If it could strengthen him and he could draw them in maybe he could control it externally. He also found that his plant form in particular absorbed far more of the blue particles than the surrounding grass and trees and being double that of the grey grasses he was surrounded by.

As the day passed Shane gained better control over the absorption of the particle's which reached 10x of what the other plants absorbed. Maybe he could develop what was called a cultivation technique in the novels or something.

A sentient grass sounded cool after all.
