Number 2: The Research

Nanai rushed to the lab, scrambling, and tripping, clumsily running through the halls.

Everything was flashing. The lights: red, white, then red again. Sirens piercing and screeching. Documents falling-- he picked them up --falling again.

He regathered himself entering the lab room, not wasting time to hurry over to the lifeless body lying on the stretcher. He stumbled and stuttered, breathing heavily and sweating. But then he spoke.

"Dr. Joh, we have to put this experiment to a halt! Something is terribly wrong!" Nanai exclaimed.

"The emergency alarms just went off. What happened, Dr. Hakuta?" Kai responded.

The two stopped their conversation. A rumble? No, a growl. A loud growl. So loud, it made the structure of the entire building violently vibrate causing dust-sized debris to fall from the ceiling.

Nanai rushed to the lab entrance and closed the doors, blocking them with any unused stretchers nearby. Kai stayed put, confused, and petrified.

"Dr. Joh, please, for the love of god and the sake of your life, get down and hide," Nanai said. "And stay as quiet as possible."

Kai gave no further thought to the matter and obeyed his instructions, hiding under a desk. The next thing he saw made him freeze with spine-chilling fear.

The floor rumbled. A low growl could be heard. A strange milky-green slime splat on the floor, visible from underneath the door. He saw the feet from where the noise was emitting. Odd to see, a sight very peculiar, Kai saw one left foot step down. The foot was warped in boils and flaked with harsh, hard skin. The nails protruded from the knuckle of the foot and split at the ends. Veins pulsated green with every pulse seemingly carrying a gulp full of green blood, visible enough to calculate the blood pressure of this beast by just looking. Which was actually really fast. Ridiculously fast. Heart attack fast.

"Dr. Hakuta. The documents. We need to save the data, Doctor." Kai said, worried.

"Stay there, Joh. We must not go anywhere. They will kill you."

Kai kept his eye on the door, watching as the foot throbbed and boiled more. It was then another foot just the same appeared. Exactly the same. It was another left foot. At first Kai figured it was two of the monsters outside, but once he started to see the two feet move forward in their twisted rhythm, he panicked. This was truly a monster.

He scoot back under the desk but knocked a power chord, causing some equipment to fall on the ground. The room became deaf albeit with the echo of the recently fallen equipment.

Not a breath was heard between the two men. The creature outside stayed still. Until an unbearable whine screeched into the flashing hallway. A whine so horrid and sad it gave the two workers waking nightmares. It sounded like a ghastly demon pleading sorry and crying for help. Each word being distorted by growls not described by any animal. The words were segregated by quickened breaths and moans of agony, the sound of someone rotting alive in a pit of a thousand deaths, but with a very sore throat.

The cries became so loud, it was deafening. The pitch increased as the words became more and more clear. The piercing sound forced Kai and Nanai to cover their ears. Soon, the sound was so unbearable it forced a scream out of the workers, them pleading for it to stop over and over and over. It was purgatory. Not just for the creature, but for the lab workers as well.

It was only a matter of time before the words spoken by the monster were clear.

"You will pay. You will die. You will die. Hungry. Hungry. Stay dead in the empty space."

Those words repeated over and over, ringing within the walls of the lab workers' heads. And as those words came, they went insane. Nanai got up and started knocking over equipment and documents scattered on the desks. Kai tried to calm him down but saw the flashing shadow of the beast's upper body behind the door. The figure, if you would call it that, was melting and deforming more and more, screaming up to the ceiling.

"MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP, PLEASE!" Screamed Nanai, grabbing a pair of scissors from one of the desks and starting stabbing his ears.

"What are you doing, Doctor!? Get a hold of yourself-- AH!" Kai wasn't able to finish his statement as Nanai plunged the scissors into his chest.

Blood. Blood sprayed almost unnaturally out of Kai's chest and the only thing he could do was watch as the life drained from him. He went limp and fell against a counter. Nanai, unable to focus, was unaware of the murder he committed. But it soon wouldn't matter as his life quickly ended. His brain was quickly sucked out by the beast who crept up behind him. With the noise ringing in his head, he never knew the beast made its way inside.

He too fell lifeless. The beast calmed down, with only the sounds of rising boils filling the air. With a quick gulp, he devoured both lab workers and promptly left the lab room, later crying yet again for help.

It was there that the dead body lying on the stretcher would wake up and examine the two lifeless lab workers. The body took their clothes and dressed up, heading out of the lab as if nothing happened.
