Twin brothers starting military training.
David in the military truck going to the place he has never be without the knowledge of his mother, he looked around the truck he saw strange faces he had never seen before, huge military truck sped to Eldoret two soldiers sat at the door of the truck holding guns he looked at a recruit he sat beside him he was a stranger, he wanted to talk to some but no one talked or utter any word as if they new what was impeding for them, David thought of what Joshua told him when the recruits fled when they saw an ugly military truck David laughed loudly.
"What are you laughing at? don't you know that we are being taken to a slaughter house?" The recruit seated beside him asked with a stone face.
David looked at him and laughed again the laughter attracted the attention if other recruits.
"What are you laughing at?" Recruits asked.
"Nothing just good memories that came into my mind" David responded.
The recruits looked at each other in amazement the truck driven faster by the soldier.
"What is your name?" David asked
"My name is Dan" recruit next to him responded.
"I am David I see you are a bit worried" David said.
"Yes I am its good we qualified to join military that is congratulations to all of us but how about rigorous military training?" Dan asked.
The truck rushed through the plain land of Kisumu city to the rift valley into the ridges of the hill of Nandi county to kapsabet past the Edoret international airport.
The recruits were very exited to join the military David taken by thought he recalled Joshua narrating stories about the military conquest in the second world war.
"What would be our fate in the military training?" David asked himself.
Dan realized that David in a dip thought.
"Comrade, what are you thinking about?" Dan asked.
David laughed with optimism.
"Comrade, I have passed through interesting and and sad encounters but I have a mentor he is like my father a teacher he inspired us to be soldiers" David said emotionally
"I see who is this special person?" Dan asked.
To the society he is a nobody a useless person insignificant, but to me he is my world" Said said boldly
"I am curious to visit him someday if we survive to go through training successfully" Dan said.
"Comrade, we are going to make even if we will be having physical, psychological and mental injuries we shall recover and go for him and say thank you" David said
"Who is the person your mother or your father or who is the special person" Dan asked.
"His name is Joshua my the only grandfather I know if I go through training successfully I will buy him a cow he like taking milk very much especially traditional sow milk" Dan said.
David thought of his mother he realized that he didn't inform him that he has been recruited to be a soldier and he will not be going home soon.
"I have a major problem now I don't know how you will help me" David asked.
"What is the problem" Dan asked.
"I secretly joined the army through the help of major general Ken without the knowledge of my mother" David said.
"She is going to be worried that I have gotten lost and she is going to search for me tirelessly" David said.
"Why can't you call her with my phone" Dan said.
"You have a phone?" David asked.
"Yes here it is have it" Dan said.
David wanted to receive the phone the military truck went into the military camp the soldiers Manning the gate saluted to show that Damsel and Joseph were more senior than them.
David and Dan were surprised see other military trucks coming with other recruits from different parts of the country.
"Step on the ground!" Damsel shouted.
All the recruits from various military trucks alighted.
"Have you seen the straight lines drawn on the court?" Damsel asked.
"Yes!" The recruits shouted back.
"Make a straight line by standing on the line" Damsel said again.
The recruits followed the instruction and stood on the lines they automatically created a parade without them knowing.
"The tallest people to go to the right and assemble in a descending order' Damsel ordered
David and Dan were the tallest they hurriedly went to to the far end of the line forming a descending night oder from the tallest to the shortest.
"You will be always be where you are whenever you are in the parade" Damsel said.
In front of them there was an office bearing a Kenyan flag two fat military generals came out of the office to where the recruits are.
Joseph and Damsel saluted and stood stiff.
"Why are you not saluting?" One of the general asked.
The recruits lagged at what he said the military officers came with a canes and ordered all the recruits to lye on the court and they cane the recruits Dan and David were the first one to be caned.
All the recruits were done being caned it was a painful experience.
Major general Ken came out of the office holding some of the certificates David recognized him David became emotional though he was nursing the pain from the canes the generals saluted the recruits saluted in any style they knew.
"That is what I wanted" Major Joseph said.
"Good afternoon, you are welcome to the training college this is the first induction you will receive other induction as time goes today there will be military truck that will take you around make sure you become conversant with the camp it is a vast area if you are lost you are going to be instructed on what to do" Major Joseph said
"Let me welcome Major general Ken he has something to say" Joseph said.
Joseph saluted and the recruits saluted
"I need this recruit David Kigen step forward" Ken sad.
David moved forward and saluted to avoid being caned.
"Follow me to my office" Ken said.
He went back to the office and David followed him into his office.
"Welcome I thought you will not remember what I told you" Ken said.
"I am much interested to join the military I am very happy and comfortable" David said.
"But you have a clean A would you not have a second thought? Ben said.
"Even if I become selective who will pay university fee?" David asked.
"I want to be a military doctor here I need to be trained in here to be a doctor" David said.
"That is a wise move" Ken said.
David though hard on how he could explain how he could explain to ken that his mother do not have any information about him joining the military.
"What is it why do you have thoughts in your mind" Ken asked
"You are too young to think focus on your training you have many years of training not like the others they will be having only nine months to train": Ken advised.
"My mother do not have information that I have been recruited as a soldier" David said.
"How and why did you not informed her and who signed your letter?" Ken asked.
"She signed hurriedly I wanted to explain to him but she was late to work" David replied.
"Please cal her its getting late and I know he is worried if he received the call explain to her that I have joined medical military college" David said.
Maggy was busy preparing the evening meal she was surprised its already almost eight pm but David has not yet arrived.
"David my son where are you have you gone to where your biological parents are? Maggy said to herself.
The clock ticked and no signs of her sons coming he thought on what to do she decided to call Silvia.
Silvia picked.
"Are you with David I am looking for him please?" Maggy asked.
"I have not seen David I came in the morning to check on him but I didn't meet him its strange David never goes anywhere without telling me" Silvia said.
Maggy hanged the phone there was a strange incoming call.
Who is this calling" Maggy asked herself.
He received the call but she was very nervous.
"This is major general Ken from Eldoret military training college, do you still remember me? Ken asked.
Maggy thought hard for a while.
"Yes I remember you I am calling to inform you that your boy is comfortable with us he has been recruited as a soldier" Ken said.
Maggy very shocked not knowing what to do she almost screamed.
"Please let the boy come home he is my life his the only one I don't have another one" Maggy shouted.
"There is nothing you can do he has decided and its you who signed his letter of appointment" Ken said.
"I didn't sign the letter" Maggy said.
"I have seen is your signature according to our identity card" Ken said.
"Would you like to talk with him?" Ken said.
"Yes please" Maggy responded.
Ken handed over the phone to David.
"Why did you decided to be a soldier that job is very risky I wanted you to be a doctor" Maggy said
"Don't worry mother, in here I will be taking medicine course free of charge unlike in the university I will pay a lot of money and you will suffer in the process" David explained.
Maggy on hearing that David will pursue medicine course free of charge she was happy and composed herself.
"OK son you be careful that place is full of guns I need you let me pray for you" Maggy said.
Maggy accepts but with a lot of doubts she cooked dinner and slept early while Ken released David to go and join other recruits in their hostels.
