Chapter 046

Alvin ran towards the Half Inch Bar, wanting to contact Frank, so that could lock onto the location of the upcoming fight.

He saw many useful items in the list of mystical items possessed by the church, hence he was eager to make some contributions in any way he could. While he now understood that the orb was not targeted at him, he had a good guess who it was targeted towards. He needed to know if they had some backups to lock onto him. And a bonus would be to let his targeters think the church was onto them, this drawing away even more attention from him. And it never too bad have excellent relations with official Beyonders.

As he was approaching, he heard yelling and shouting up ahead. He rushed forward, to see two highlanders, and the Hunter he saw previously fighting just outside his bar.

Alvin froze, not expecting the trap and fight to erupt right in front of his bar. But he quickly composed himself and hid.

The three that were being attacked were the 2 members of the Zmanger Gang, and Donald from the church disguised as one. The highlander and Donald were using their physical strength and weapons to fight off their attackers, while the other person who was assigned as a lookout was throwing out tounges assigned flame. Donald and the other highlander kept shouting out insults, which made Alvin think the two highlanders were Provokers, but only one of them was distracting opponents and receiving more attacks, as Donald did not have any powers of provocation.

Alvin then noticed the attackers. The four attackers all displayed immense physical strength and mastery of weapons, which immediately reminded Alvin of Heldium.

The attackers were armed with only clubs and shoddy swords, and while they had decent mastery over both armed and unarmed combat, and despite having the numbers advantage, they were at a disadvantage because of the flames of the Pyromaniac.

Alvin did not spot Hannah or Raleigh fighting, which prompted him to also remain in hiding and wait for developments.

Suddenly, two more people jumped out and joined the four people already fighting. These people had better weapons, and their mastery of weapons was also better, which made Alvin believe that they were both Weapons Specialists, Sequence 7 of the Warrior pathway, and with the two Pugilists and two Warriors, they made a total of 6 Beyonders of the Warrior pathway.

Immediately, the two members of the Zmanger Gang were pushed back. The Pyromaniac kept spewing frames and manipulating them to hurt his opponents, but they bore it and counterattacked.

As they kept getting pushed back, Radopest yelled, "Hahaha! Did you think that there as all! We knew we were coming, and we have a surprise for you! Welsing! Now" and suddenly also started spewing flames, catching one of the attackers off-guard and scoring a direct him. Donald, who was pretending to be Radopest, also started spewing flames. Alvin, who was observing from a distance could keenly notice that Donald's flames were much tamer, and more structured compared to the flame of the other two.

"Definitely a Faceless" thought Alvin as he watched the Magician's flame controlling ability, coupled with the face changing ability he saw earlier.

The 9 men's brawl grew more chaotic. Some members of the attacking 6 were burned by sweeping flames, but the two Zmanger Gang members and Donald also suffered non fatal yet moderately serious cuts.

Since the two church members were still hidden, Alvin did not sense the need for his intervention, and thus he sneakily went into the bar through a side entrance.

He found the bar thoroughly empty, with a trap that would send the whole place into the sky by igniting barrels of gunpowder buried underneath the bar.

This was the trap and protocol he designed. If there was an unexpected circumstance, Frank was expected to evacuate everyone, arm the trap to leave a nasty surprise to any intruder, and then leave.

While he disarmed the main trap, he still left plenty of the smaller traps armed.

He then looked at the fight again, through a small opening in the window.

The fight was still chaotic as ever, but the 6 members of the Warrior Sequence had the distinct upper and, as they used some makeshift shields and their seamless cooperation to hold off the flames, and inflict moderate damage on their three opponents.

Even Donald was quite injured, and while it did not look life threatening, he expected the other Nighthawks to have extended a hand by now.

He took out the Coin of Wonders, and divined if they were unable to help because they were engaging an enemy. The Coin encountered some resistance, but eventually gave a positive result!

"The Zmanger Gang was partially controlled by Rosago in the original story until Klien killed him. He is a Sequence 5 Marionettist. He could have been the one responsible for remotely controlling the tails and having them stiffly walk away a few days ago" thought Alvin.

He then looked at the 6 Beyonders of the Warrior Sequence, wondering if one of them could be a Marionette who disrupt the cooperation in time. He figured out there would be only one because the person could only control one tail at a time, hence he probably had not digested the potion much. And Rosago's reckless attack on Klien, where he went himself instead of sending a Marionette, suggested that he didn't believe in, or didn't understand how to use Marionettes.

Back to the fight at hand, Alvin pulled out his trusty revolver, and aimed it at the Beyonders of the Warrior Sequence, thinking of his plan to deal with them after.

After having a basic idea, he carefully aimed his revolver at the most injured, and thus the weakest and most vulnerable member of the group with a few burns visible, a Warrior who had recently taken the potion by the looks of it, and aimed right at his head.

Waiting for an opportune moment, Alvin pulled the trigger, letting the bullet loose.
