How I would've finished the story, Pt 4

Kane meets with his allies and plans a proper sabotage of the enemy government.

Having learned his previous squad on the continent has been killed, Kane leads a new, larger squad of captured and reformed Treychla soldiers back to the homeland.

After slaughtering the rest of the district commanders in the South and West, Kane finds himself hunted by the most powerful soldiers in the nation.

On the run, he soon finds himself receiving messages through space itself, telling him to go to an old house in the forest.

After arriving, he meets the first Space Mage.

Though she'd been lazy researching the extent of her powers, she wasn't lazy researching the origin.

As it turns out, there's a permeating field of radiation throughout the galaxy. Different galaxies have slightly different frequencies of this field. And different fields funnel into each other from their strongest connecting points.

These points tend to be planets with life on them, as living organisms made a good conductor for this radiation, an element known as manilium happens to be attracted to this field as if it were gravity.

Though this radiation slowly kills cells and causes aging, some people's bodies have a rare genetic resistance to it, allowing them to harness the radiation to effect nature.

Manilium isn't the cause of magic power. It is merely an indication of where cosmic radiation is strongest and weakest.

Different people form different magic attributes based on which form of manipulation is mentally easiest to grasp.

How someone initially learns to manipulate mana will quickly become engrained as strong muscle memory, learning another attribute would require losing all of your memories or completely altering the way you view the world.

Though for someone who knows space magic, you aren't using the field to manipulate matter, but rather, manipulating the field itself. All attributes are within reach if someone takes time to understand their fundamentals.

Kane asks if the strange wormholes above the earth are the links between different magnetic fields, to which he receives a nod yes.

He's informed of the mage's theory that different fields come with different rules for magic use, then given the code to the countries Mage research archives.

With that, Kane leaves.

Moving through the North, Kane takes out the last of the district commanders.

After checking the Mage research archives, he learns that they'd been experimenting for 200 years, for the most part subjects would meet a brutal end. Initial successes tended to be significantly weaker than the mage's available now.

Eventually VR tech for training and detecting compatible genes would be spread out among the masses, those compatible would be given gradually increasing doses of a compound that could alter a person's DNA and strengthen the radiation resisting gene.

The main areas radiation seemed to flow through would be reinforced with each dose, eventually forming a complete artery system for harmless free-flow and collection of it.

If someone failed to withstand the dose, ie, the tunnel system that radiation flows into, happens to pass through a vital organ before it could become reinforced from training, the radiation would now be attempting to collect inside of that organ, causing rapid harm.

If one could reinforce their heart through training before the radiation killed them, they'd have full mana usage unlocked.

The weakening of the heart before gaining a mana collection area holds down a lot of mages. It decreases life span, improvement speed, and power output.

The real reason Kane is so powerful, and has such shocking growth, isn't just because he's a natural at his attribute or trains hard.

Because he'd strengthened his first passages so much more than normal through hard training and a very late final dose, when he got the final dose, rather than his heart being damaged as the passage slowly built itself up, he was able to hold back all the radiation inside of his already existent and abnormally large passages.

Because Kane minimized the damage to his heart, his radiation use was much more stable, safe, and powerful.

Having finally reached the top rank any human had achieved in magic, Kane took down the remaining armies and overthrew the government.
