First Day Of School

Kang Yura POV,

Flashback,

6 months ago, Spring,

"Yura~aah, breakfast is ready!", called my mother from the kitchen

"Ye! Yubi hurry up, we'll be late," I said while helping my brother get dressed

"Who will take me to school?...", asked Yubi while wearing his school uniform

"Oemma will take you on her way to the office", I said smiling at him while smoothing his tie

"Why not you, noona?", he asked while frowning

"Today is my first day of school too, so I have to arrive early", I replied while combing his hair

"Are you going to be okay, noona?", he asked looking at me with his big eyes

"Haha ye, of course, I'll be fine", I replied chuckling at his question

"Hurry up, you'll be late", my mother's voice heard again

"Ne! Don't forget your bag, Yubi", I said

"Yes", he answered as he carried his bag out of the room

"Are you ready? Aigooo ... so beautiful and handsome," said my mother when she saw us arriving at the dining table in full school uniforms

"Let's have breakfast", my mother said again

Then we sat down at the dining table and started eating our breakfast.

Well, my name is Kang Yura, I'm 17 years old. Today is my first day at my new school, Meiwa High School. An elite school located in the Yongsan district. At first, I was reluctant to go to school there, because apart from the high school fees, the students who attended there were also children from the upper classes. But thanks to my pretty good grades, I was successfully accepted into the school and got a scholarship.

I currently live with my mother and little brother in an apartment in the Singye-dong area of Seoul. We used to live in Gunsan city, which is a port city in North Jeolla Province. We just moved to Seoul two months ago because my mom got a better job offer here.

My mother is Kim Hyerin, 39 years old. Since my father passed away 4 years ago, my mother worked hard to provide for our family. And currently, she is working as a financial consultant at a private bank in Seoul.

My brother, Kang Yubi, is 5 years old. He is a handsome and adorable boy. Sometimes he acts way above his age because he thought that he is the only man in our family, so he feels a responsibility to protect my mother and me.

"Yubi, your sister will pick you up at the daycare after she comes home from school, okay?", my mother said to Yubi

"What time does noona finish school? Do I have to wait a long time? I think I can go home alone, oemma, the distance from daycare to the house is only 2 blocks", said Yubi talking with his mouth full

"Ani. I'll pick you up. My school ends at 3 pm. I'll be home soon and pick you up, okay? Just wait. Seoul is not the same as in Gunsan", I replied looking at him

"Ye, your sister is right. So you can play with your friends at daycare until your sister comes, okay?", said my mother after swallowing her breakfast

"Arasso (I get it/I understand)", answered Yubi grimly

5 minutes later I was at the bus stop and waiting for the bus that would take me to Meiwa. While my mom and Yubi walk to Yubi's school which is only 2 blocks from here.

I stood up and entered the line when the bus that would take me to Meiwa arrived. The distance from my house to school takes 15 minutes by driving, and about 35 minutes on foot.

"Annyeong (Hi/hallo)", I greeted the bus driver when sticking the Cashbee card (transportation card) on the card reader located beside the driver

I saw students in uniform filling every corner of the bus. Even some of the students openly looked at me from head to toe.

"She's Meiwa's student", she whispered to her friends

I smiled at them and they smiled back at me with an awkward look. Is there something wrong with me? I thought.

I looked at my reflection in the bus window, making sure that there was nothing strange about me. My long hair is neatly arranged, my burgundy school uniform also looks neat and uncluttered, the sneakers I wear are clean... then why are they looking at me like that? I thought confused. I looked around, then I realized that I was the only Meiwa student on this bus.

15 minutes passed and the bus I was riding finally arrived at my destination. The magnificent school gate seemed to greet me in the distance. I walked towards the gate while occasionally looking back, hoping that there were students who just got off the bus like me. But until I entered the school area, I didn't see any students coming.

This is my second time visiting this school. I came to Meiwa to take care of scholarships and other things three days ago. But still, the grandeur of this school building amazed me.

The school area is very large. After entering the school gate, a large parking area greeted me. Then rows of tap-in machines lined the entrance area. I just need to tap my student card on the machine to be able to enter and leave the school building.

These machines also function as the daily attendance of the students. So you can imagine how troublesome it would be if my student card was left behind or lost, right...

I walked slowly towards the entrance as one by one the students in burgundy uniforms got out of the cars that came and went.

"Aigoo", I mumbled

Am I the only one taking the bus? I asked myself. The students around me greeted each other and chatted, busy talking about various things.

I sighed and tapped my student card on the automatic machine and walked in awkwardly when the automatic bar in front of me opened.

I walked up a paving block that separated the school buildings from a large soccer field.

"Oh, mianhae (I'm sorry: informal way)", I woke up from my daydream when one of the students ran and accidentally bumped my shoulder

"Gwaenchana (it's okay), I replied while holding my shoulder

The young man just nodded and continued running towards the soccer field. I walked to the 5th-floor building while taking out a piece of paper containing the class schedule and information about my class and locker.

"2B, 3rd floor", I said reading the paper

I entered the white building and was astonished to find a row of elevators right in front of the entrance. On the left and right of the elevator, there are staircases. Then on the left of the stairs, there is a large locker room while on the right there is a teacher's room.

"Daebak! (Amazing!)", I muttered in awe

I queued with the other students in front of an elevator. While in the elevator, I shook my head, unable to believe that there was a school like this in Seoul. This school is soo much better and bigger than my old school in Gunsan.

When I got to the 3rd floor, I read the signage on the wall. Classes 2A - 2C is on the left, the laboratories are on the right. I stopped my steps when I arrived in front of class 2B. A feeling of nervousness began to fill me. I saw that there were already a few students in the class, some sitting alone, some crowding around and chatting excitedly.

I slowly entered the classroom and headed for an empty seat in the third row right next to the window. I looked around, wanting to ask if I could sit in this chair or not, but they all seemed unconcerned or even a little indifferent to their surroundings.

According to the paper, I was reading earlier, there were only 20 students in each class. It's a bit when compared from other public schools. Even at my old school, there were 40 students in one class. Well, this school is different, Yura, I reminded myself.

I stared out the window at the clouds in the clear summer sky, hoping that I would have a nice day at school here.

One by one the seats in the classroom began to fill. Three quite handsome young men entered the classroom, and suddenly the female students began to whisper excitedly while glancing at them.

I frowned and reading the paper containing my class schedule again.

"Hey, that's my chair", one of the 3 young men came over to me

"Huh? Oh! Mianhae... I didn't know this chair was filled. I'm sorry", I said as I stood up from the chair in a hurry

"Are you a transfer student?", he asked, smiling broadly at me and glancing at the paper I had been holding

"Yeah..", I answered briefly

"Oh, gwaenchana. You can sit here. I'll find another chair near Yoongi. No problem", he replied kindly

"Huh? Jinjja? (Really?)", I asked in disbelief

"Ye, gwaenchana", he replied, still smiling friendly

"Kamsahamnida (thank you)", I said bowing to him

"Hoseok~aah? Wae? (Why?/what's wrong?)", asked a tall, bespectacled man who had come with him

"It's nothing. Sunwoo~ah, move over there! I want to sit near Yoongi", said the man asked a boy sitting in the row next to me to move

"But...", said the boy named Sunwoo with a sad face

"Just move", said Hoseok again

The man with glasses looked at me and the man named Hoseok alternately while frowning and said, "are you a transfer student?".

"Yes", I answered briefly while looking at him

He didn't say anything else and just nodded his head as he walked towards his seat in the front row.

I saw some girls looking at me cynically. They seemed displeased with my presence. I shook my head and sat back in my chair.

* Riiiing

The bell rings. All the students returned to their seats. I took out my textbook and waited quietly. Sometimes I smile at the girls who are quietly looking at me, but they immediately avert their eyes in disgust when our eyes meet.

"Annyeong!", greeted a male teacher in his mid-30s who had just entered the class

"Annyeong, Mr. Ko", the students answered in unison

He smiled and looked around the class and stopped when our eyes met.

"I heard from Mrs. Jang that there is a transfer student in this class. Is that you?", he asked without taking his eyes off me

"Ne", I answered as I stood up and bowed to him

"Come forward then... I think all your friends would like to meet you", he said again

I confidently got up from my desk and walked to the front of the class.

"Annyeong! My name is Kang Yura, I'm 17 years old. I'm a transfer student from Gunsan High School. I hope we can be friends. Thank you", I said bowing

"Annyeong Kang Yura ssi", said Hoseok while waving cheerfully at me

"Annyeong", I replied waving at him

But the smile on my face soon disappeared when I saw my other classmates just stared at me with annoyed looks.

"Okay. You can go back to your seat, Yura ssi (ssi : addressing someone politely). For information, Kang Yura ssi was accepted at Meiwa because she is an outstanding child, she entered the national top 50 in first grade. So Namjoon ssi you have to be careful with her", said teacher Ko chuckling awkwardly looking at the tall and bespectacled boy

"Okay, let's continue our lesson. Open your books and laptops", said teacher Ko who changed the subject when the atmosphere in the classroom suddenly turned awkward

I looked around the classroom and took out my laptop for today's lesson.

7 hours later...

I'm currently in my last class today, English. Not much happened on my first day of school. Even I didn't have any friends yet. Many times I greeted several girls during recess, but the response I got was very disappointing. They pretended not to hear my greeting and refused to even look at me.

I'm annoyed with their attitude of course, but I can't do anything because of my current status as a transfer student. So after several rejections from my classmates, I finally decided to do everything myself. I went to the cafeteria and had lunch alone, doing my chores and so on.

* Rriiiiiingg

The bell signaling the end of class sounded loud. Several students cheered and tidied up their books and laptops. I typed the last sentence hastily and turned off my laptop.

"Don't forget to send the previous assignment to my email. See you tomorrow", said Mr. Andrew, our English teacher, ends his lesson

There were murmurs from my friends, they seemed eager to do something immediately after school.

"Yoongi~aah, fighting! I'll meet you at the gymnasium after meeting the others. See you later...", said the boy named Hoseok

"Ne, bye", replied the pale-skinned boy who sat behind him earlier

I took my bag and walked out of the classroom, the students huddled in front of the elevators that lined up while chatting boisterously. I walked slowly towards the stairs and down the stairs to the first floor.

Then I went down the steps and sat on a chair in a park right in front of the basketball court. I saw the pale-skinned boy who was in my class earlier had changed into sports clothes and was busy dribbling the basketball in his hand.

* Ting

"Yura~aah, when your school is over, please pick up Yubi immediately. Anyway, how was your first day at school? I can't wait to hear your story... see you later tonight...", my mother's message

I put my phone back in my coat pocket and sighed. Would my mother be disappointed if I told her the truth? My mom was very happy when she found out that I was accepted at this school.

"This is one of the best schools in Seoul. You are very lucky to be able to go to school in that place, Yura~aah", she said repeatedly

I got up from my seat and walked towards the school entrance. I tap my student card and continued walking through the parking lot.

When walking towards the bus stop, I saw 4 girls in burgundy uniforms standing around. They looked a bit strange, the girl with glasses lowered her face with messy hair, while the other three girls were seen laughing and swarming around her.

I walked slowly as I passed them, staring at one of the pretty girls who was smiling a mocking smile at me. After passing them I heard one of them say, "So you still dare to show your face to school, huh? You didn't get my warning yesterday?!".

My steps stopped. I hate bullies, I thought. It turns out that everywhere is the same, bullies are always around me. Without thinking, I turned around and walked towards them again. The bespectacled girl started to sob as one of the three girls tugged at her bag.

"Mr. Ko, annyeong!!", I shouted while pointing at the school gate

The three girls choked and simultaneously turned their bodies in the direction I pointed. Before they realized what was going on, I pulled the bespectacled girl towards me.

"Ya! (Hey!)", the beautiful girl screamed after realizing that I lied to her

"Oops! Sorry I was wrong, I thought it was Mr. Ko", I replied as I threw my heavy bag at them until they fell to the ground

"Kajja!!", I shouted while holding hand with the bespectacled girl and running towards the highway

"Yaa!! Come back!! I said back! You damn girl!", they shouted

Great!!! I must have gone crazy! On my first day of school, instead of making many friends, I got enemies like this, I thought.
