Chapter 10

After Sophia and Erik left I opened the curtains and sat on the window sill with the glass of water that she brought up. I kept thinking about the two of them and vampires in general. Could it be possible? I stared out the window for hours, just thinking. My mind wandered to the night before, the alley, my body being violated, being saved and Erik's eyes. Tears ran down my face while I continued to stare out the window.

I didn't realize how long I had been sitting there or how long I'd been crying because it was suddenly dark out and I could see myself in the window. I put my hand over the face of my reflection, disgusted and angry at myself. I cried into my knees and exhausted myself into a deep sleep.

Not sure how long I was asleep, I woke up with a blanket around my shoulders. I looked up and saw Sophia in the chair reading. I tried to put my feet on the floor but I only stumbled, which made her look at me.

"Oh you're awake!" Let me help you. You've been on the windowsill for over 10 hours. I'm surprised you didn't fall off." She said as she helped me to my feet.

"How long!? My legs feel like noodles" her words shocked me and then my legs began to tingle.

"About ten hours, we went out and when we got back you were still there. I brought you some food." She said as she eased me onto the bed.

"Ow ow ow ow ow" I curled my toes over and over.

"Are you hungry?" She asked with worry in her eyes.

"Can I ask you something? Even though we don't know each other" I asked.

"Sure. Go ahead" She said as she sat down.

"Are you vampires? I know it sounds totally and utterly crazy but I've been thinking. That's why I was by the window. Please tell me I'm crazy." I pleaded.

"No you're not crazy. We are." She said with total honesty.

"Oh my....you are?" I was shocked and looked at a spot on the floor.

"Oh no! Don't be scared please. Don't be. We won't hurt you. We are the good ones! We want to protect you, especially Erik but he won't tell you that." She put her hand on my arm and I didn't move. She shook my arm slightly.

"I'm not scared at all, just shocked that I was right."

"Why? We exist but not like Hollywood shows us in the movies. It makes me so angry that they portray us as these barbarians...."

"Wait...wait...Erik wants to protect me? Why?" I cut her off and she stares at me like a deer in the headlights.

"I....I can't say anything" she tried to get up and leave.

"Please talk to me. I'm scared about what happened, I'm in a strange place with people I don't know and I spent my entire day crying. Please...." I put my hand on her arm.

She looked at me and melted. We talked for a while and I was starting to relax. Sophia made me feel comfortable then I started to miss my friends. I told her all about them and she wanted to meet them.

"Can you tell me about Erik?" I asked while twisting the blanket.

"Ummm... will you keep it a secret?" She asked nervously.

"Of course!" I smiled at her.

"We came across him a few years ago, well actually fifty years ago. He was fighting a group of vampires and we jumped in to help him." She said.

"We?" I asked.

"Oh! Right, there's a groups in the house. Me, Drake, Adrianna, Trey, Irene, Carter and Erik."

"Here? All of you?" My eyes grew wide.

"Yes, it's a rather large house. I'll talk to Erik and see if...."
