The Goddess of Chaos

Staring mindlessly at the crack on the wall of her cell, Eires let out a bored yawn. Her day had started out oh so uneventful, but by lunch time it had suddenly taken a sharp turn downhill. She was just minding her own business when a bunch of random kids thought it was about time that they take their turn to challenge the goddess of chaos before they missed their chance. She was after all going to be graduating in a matter of weeks. The only thing she actually liked about this whole ordeal is the nickname that was given to her after rumours got out that she had managed to single handedly fend off a pack of wolves last year.

Truth be told those wolves that she was fending off near the woods on the outskirts of town were really just harmless she-wolves from her pack

whom had the misfortune of underestimating her strength and decided that they’d find it funny to pick a fight with the ‘weakling’ -not knowing that although she couldn’t physically turn into a wolf she was not someone you wanted to mess with. Naturally she easily took all the wolves down with her bare hands, she was even having fun releasing all that pent up energy, until she saw the look of horror on the faces of a group of teenagers who had trespassed into their part of the woods.

She wasn’t sure the police actually believed her father when he had dismissed the 911 distress call regarding a wolf attack as a dumb prank call

by teenagers who had nothing better to do with their time. Of course, the officers did demand that the EMT on site check her -just to be on the safe side, to which they did confirm that other than a higher than usual heart rate she was perfectly fine.

Although at first she didn’t really mind the challenges, some of them were quite entertaining but now it had escalated to levels of ridiculousness. Eires supposed she could just back down from all these challenges, but she had to let out steam somehow and what better way to do just that than give the people what they want. For the longest time, she just kept her head down and tried to keep herself from drawing attention, but after last year she suddenly got a taste of what life would be if she was born different. From then on out, she was done keeping her head down, why not create a little bit of mischief before she left this town and started fresh somewhere else.

Forming a little energy ball into her hands Eires wondered what was keeping him away today. Her brother didn’t usually take more than an hour to get to the police station after getting a call. Maybe this time he was finally done with having to deal with her antics and wasn’t going to come bail her out this time. Focusing on the ball in her hand, Eires was about to bounce it against the wall when she heard the iron bars of her cell beginning to shift open. Letting the ball of energy dissipate into nothingness, Eires looked down to examine her fingernails instead. She supposed the department finally managed to get a hold of Cole after all.

“You know the drill Eires, go on ahead and take a seat in the interrogation room two and I’ll be in there in a minute with your file.” Said officer Breman. It would seem that Officer Hank Breman has been officially assigned to her because for the past two months every time Eires ended up in here he had alwasy been the one to 'interrogate' her about what had happened. Giving Officer Breman a salute, Eires sauntered out of her cell and made her way towards her assigned interrogation room.

Seeing piercing violet eyes stare back at him for the second time this week, Hank tried his best to keep a worrying crease from forming on his brow. Picking up her file from his desk, Hank then walked into the interrogation room and leaned against the wall opposite to where Eires was seated. "Well if it isn’t our resident jail bird back in her cell. What are you in for this time?"

"Isn’t it all written there right in that file you’ve got in your hands right there?" Eires replied. Hank knew she was avoiding answering his question, for someone who had such an angelic face he can't help but feel that Eires was harbouring a great secret and he was determined to figure it out.

"We finally managed to get through to your brother. Cole said he'll be here as soon as he can” Flipping through the incident report he had on

the youngest child of one of the most powerful families in the area, Hank had genuinely believed that there couldn't possibly be anything else that could top Monday's stunt where she and a group of teenagers were caught trying to jump through a ring of fire with a motorcycle but evidently he was wrong.

“While we're waiting, mind telling me how you walked out of that little accident without so much as a scratch?" Hank said as he sat himself

in a chair across from her.

"No one else got hurt, why should I be the exception?" Eires asked innocently as she tapped her fingers against the interrogation desk.

"That's because no one else fell off a cliff whilst racing illegally down Stoneridge mountain." He said undeterred by yet another attempt of trying to avoid actually answering his questions.

"I didn't fall off a cliff, I'm sure the others were exaggerating just a little bit when they saw my bike crash. I fell off my bike before it skidded off that hill." Hank supposed that was the most plausible answer, because other than her roughed up clothing, nothing else looked out of place. But there was something he just couldn’t place, almost every single one of the stories that has to do with this girl has somehow been just another big exaggeration after another. He knew if he asked the right questions he would be able to solve the mystery of the goddess of chaos.

Leaning towards her, Hank held her gaze for a minute before asking “Is there anything that we the authorities should know about? Especially if

it’s happening at home? You can come to us, we know your family is powerful but if any abuse is happening you know we will protect you right?
