The Moon makes no mistakes

'My dad is going to kill me' Jason heard her think loud and clear. Could it be possible that she didn't know that he was the heir to the Black stone pack? Maybe she was worried that her father would disapprove of her being mated to a wolf that could not protect her.

"I'm Jason Wolfe by the way" Jason said again feeling a little embarrassed at having to tell her his last name.

"I'm Eires? Didn't we just trade names like a minute ago? " She said with a smile but Jason could still feel the tension in her body. His last name was obviously not registering to her as she didn't feel comforted by the fact that he was a Wolfe.

"Yeah we did, but didn't you know that there's a whole lot of Jasons who turned up to the mating ritual this year and I wouldn't want some other Jason claiming you were his mate" Jason said with a wink. Well that wasn't a total lie, there was another Jason from the Reed River pack but he didn't think that she would confuse the two of them.

"Oh is that so? And here I thought you were just a little slow." She countered with yet another smile this time with a little less tension.

'He said it again, his mate. How could he be so sure that we're mates?' Unfazed by Eires's pessimism, Jason knew it in his heart and mind that she was his.

"So Jason Wolfe which pack are you from? Your parents must be pretty high up in the pack if they insisted that you come to ensure that the family bloodline don't die with you." Eires continued. His suspicions were confirmed, she truly didn't know who he was and he had to admit he felt relieved that he didn't need to live up to some preconceived version of himself in her mind. He could just be him around her.

"Yeah you could say they're pretty high up seeing as how they're the Alpha and Luna of the Blackstone pack." As soon as he told her about his parents Jason could hear her think

'Yep should have listened to Cole and stayed in my room tonight. I'm as good as dead when dad finds out.'

A million different thoughts raced through his mind, 'Who was this Cole?', 'How could finding out that he was the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Northern hemisphere be a bad thing?', 'Were their families enemies in the Red Moon wars a couple of decades ago?'

Thinking long and hard suddenly it dawned on him, has she already been betrothed to another powerful wolf? That could definitely explain why she wasn't in wolf form running the woods finding for a mate. Although the practice of powerful families marrying their offspring especially females to get powerful wolves to join their packs was an ancient tradition that many packs still choose to practice to this day should their heirs fail to find their chosen mate. However in the off chance that either one of the wolves did find their destined mate they would be forced to reject their true mate. This action would inevitably cause pain to both parties and in some extreme rare instances could drive both wolves into insanity.

Jason wondered about this 'Cole' that he would have to eventually fight off as there was no way he was going to let his mate slip out of his fingers now that he has found her. Looking at the position of the moon in the sky, Jason estimated about another three to four hours before they would both have to turn up back in the clearing to declare themselves mated to each other.

Deciding between getting to know her better or asking her about the werewolf that he would evidently need to confront, Jason childishly wondered why couldn't his journey to finding a mate be as easy and straightforward like his parents. His parents literally grew up together -seeing as how his mum was the beta's daughter, and at their first mating ritual had found each other and have been together ever since.

"Jason.." Eires started before taking a short pause.

'I've got to tell him the truth, he has to know the truth. But if he knows the truth he might reject me as his mate.' And in that moment Jason felt a pain in his chest.

Pulling her onto his lap and engulfing her in his arms. Jason decided he needed to let her know that he could hear her thoughts. Letting down the mind wall he had put up Jason communicated with her through the link 'Whatever it is you're afraid of you can tell me. I promise you I don't scare easily."

Seeing her look up at him she looked surprised. 'Did you just..?'

'Well it was difficult to not hear you when you're practically screaming at me with your thoughts, sorry for eavesdropping but I couldn't turn it off even if I wanted to.' Jason communicated to her through their link. He could tell that she was mortified.

'Coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine,

Gotta, gotta be down because I want it all.'

Jason let out a small chuckle, was she trying to block her thoughts from him by singing Mr. Brightside? Well he suppose that was one way to do it.

'Can't say I know many songs by the killers but if I'm being honest I definitely had Mr. Brightside on replay after a particularly traumatic breakup.' Looking up at him with a sheepish smile, Eires said. "Traumatic breakup? Did the poor she-wolf's brother break your arm once he found out that you had broken his baby sister's heart?"

"Has it ever occurred to you that I was the one who got dumped?" Jason said as he twirled her hair in his fingers.

"No way, someone actually broke up with you?" Preparing for the wave of sadness to hit as the thought of Riley passed through his mind, Jason was truly surprised to find that he felt genuine happiness that Riley had found her mate and he had found his.

"Got to admit it isn't one of my finer moments but it's nice to know that you think I'm too perfect for anyone to dump." He said while winking at her.

"She may have dodge a bullet here, with that massive ego and that distracting smile she probably got tired of being so easily steamrolled. Lucky for you I'm not a push over and I've got a lifetime to try to get your huge ego to an acceptable level." Eires countered.

And with that Jason knew that Eires had accepted that they were mates. No matter what happens come sunrise, he was ready to protect and defend what was his.
