Hope (1)

The world seems to hate me sometimes. I finally have a friend in school, and this happens. Sometimes I wish I could have a normal life y'know. Without this reality shift, and magic poisoning. That's just how life is however.

If only I could create a way to constantly absorb his MP, that way I could buy time to find a better solution. But that requires magic machinery that doesn't even exist, and I don't know how all that stuff works. I can't specialize in everything after all, perfecting Gravity magic is my goal, and I'm not omnipotent.

That means I need someone who is really into magic machinery huh, I think I have the perfect person.

??? POV:

*Ring Ring*

"Huh, who's calling me? Oh it's just Jess, been a while since she called me." I pick up the phone and ask, "Hey Jess, what do you want?"

"How did you know I was gonna ask for something?"

"There's no way you would ever call me for any other reason y'know?"

"Hey!!! Okay, yeah I need your help for something, when's the next time you'll be home?"

"I should be home this weekend, I can help you then."

"Okay thanks!"

"I'm always up to help my little sister." After all, isn't that what a big sister is for?

===

Jess' POV:

Now that that's done, I need to get prepared. My sister is a genius when it comes to magi-tech (magic machinery), however she's a bit on the weird side. Well, I could say that about my entire family, I don't think a single one of us are completely normal.

Up until the shift, I kind of stayed out of sight for most the time. It seems that the Jess before the Shift did the same. According to my brother, she, or I, actually trained really hard to keep her natural urges to float and stuff suppressed. All that work went down the drain after the Shift though, sorry past me.

Now I just gotta wait until the weekend. Won't take that long saying today is Thursday though.

*Beep Beep Beep*

Ughh, what is that sound. I bang at my bedrest until the noise stops, then realize, that was my alarm clock! My big sister is home today! I can finally ask her for the help!

Like I said before, my sister is a little weird. Her looks are fairly normal, she just looks like an older me with brown eyes, she gets them from our mom's side. I have blue eyes from our dad's side. Before the Shift her hair was brown, but now her hair is probably the same iconic blond that all elves have. Other than that, she's pretty much average in looks.

The weird part comes from her personality. She's pretty much the exact opposite of me, and crazy social. She can easily talk to anyone and honestly, it makes me kind of jealous sometimes. She's the kind of weird that brings other people close to her, she attracts others in a way I could only dream of. On top of that she is extremely kind, however she is also kind of... extreme in everything else too.

Anyway, time to fill her in on what she needs to help me with...

"Nope, can't be done."

"Wha-"

"What you want to do goes against all magic theory. Sure we have MP batteries to power magi-tech that takes a lot of it like teleportation devices, however making one that constantly sucks out MP on a consistent stream is impossible, even if it was don't you think it would have been done by now?"

"Yeah, but I gotta try! My friend is in danger!"

"Ughh, what am I supposed to do! I wanna help you, but you're asking the impossible y'know?"

"That's why I'm asking you! You are the only one I know crazy enough to do this! Please, I need your help!"

"Fine, I'll see what I can do..."

"Thank you!"

"Why doe's your friend need this anyway? MP suppressants should work fine for magic poisoning."

"He's a Sapient, his body can't take the amount of MP he has. He may have more than even me y'know?"

"Oh really, he?"

"It's not like that!"

"Sure..."

"Lets just get to work on this device okay?"

"Fine, and if it works, we can rake in the cash!"

"That is NOT why we are doing this and you know it!"

"Yeah, yeah lets just get to work"

Finally, we start to work on the device to help save William. I didn't think I would be able to help, but she had me use my gravity magic for the more fine details because my control over it is more precise than fingers. She drew a magic circuit that I could not even understand and got to work.

Sunday comes and we have a prototype to test. While it doesn't have the ability to store MP, what it does have is the ability to absorb MP. The reason why what we are trying to make is so difficult is because of one simple thing.

MP hates doing the same thing outside the body. Think of MP like electricity, when it has something to travel through in a current there is no problem, but what happens when that current disappears? The electricity will disperse. Our bodies are the thing MP has to travel through in a current, so when MP leaves the body, it will try to either form a path, like lightning, or it will disperse.

For this reason, under the conditions of your body MP is like putty, easy to mold. However once it leaves the body, if it's form wasn't solidified before it left the body, like what spells do, it runs wild and disperses.

People who charge MP batteries have to train for years to solidify their magic in a way that allows a circuit to safely absorb the MP. However, what my sister and I are making does this by itself, something previously impossible. We don't know if it works yet however...

We plug the circuit into a random MP battery we got from our house, they aren't cheap, but aren't rare either. I hooked up the circuit to myself and watched what would happen.

"It seems to be working but we can't celebrate ye-"

*BOOM*

Just before the explosion I condensed all the debris into one point with Gravity magic and got out of the way.

"Well it worked for a while, so that's a start. We just made history y'know!" That's my sister, ever the optimistic.

"Yeah, but it still blew up, that isn't going to save my friend..."

"Look, we still have time, and this is a great start, I'll work on the circuit more in my free time at college, and you just wait to help me next weekend, okay?"

"Yeah..."

"Good. I got to go, because, y'know, I got classes to attend."

"Yeah, bye."

"See you!"
