Going Back

Okay, so these soldiers bring me to this strange room, that looks exactly like an interrogation room from a crime show... this can't be good, right?

"Jess Heart, after being observed for a month, and a background check, you have been granted the right to return home, under the supervision of a couple of soldiers that will keep their eyes on you. Nothing is out of the ordinary for you, other than your innate talent and the couple of incidents you have been a victim of recently."

"If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask."

Okay, that was way too polite. I mean that one dude following the royal twins straight-up called me and the other people inferior, I thought that all the royal soldiers would be like that. Well, maybe they are just doing this to be nice for holding me here for a month?

Well, at least I am free. They said I can start reattending school in a week, and I'll be home by tomorrow so I should back up my stuff. I told them that I can teleport myself, but they insisted that they take me. They're probably worried I'll somehow find out the location of this place if I teleport out of here.

After all, I could just teleport into the air, get a birdseye view of where this is, and fly until I find civilization. There's no way I could get past the barrier here, but they don't know that.

It's been a while since I saw the RUBY-MODEL-4 and Osiris... I honestly think that that's a good thing, It would definitely suck if I kept getting teleported there somehow.

I might also find out why I haven't been able to contact William. It is strange, it's like every person I know has just stopped getting online. Well, it might just be the internet here blocking my connection to people I know so I can't tell them anything confidential.

Whatever, I pack my stuff, and get on in the dumb car after saying goodbye to Sasha, she's also going home, but tomorrow. They want us to leave at different times for some reason.

After a long, blindfolded drive, I get home. So, some of you may remember my whole elf ability to remember the path I took? Yeah, I used it this time and I figured out why they aren't worried about me remembering... they literally purposely take false routes. They are going all over the place to confuse me. Even with the elf ability, this path is too chaotic. I could use the GPS-like spell, but they have a barrier here to prevent it.

Well, I finally arrive home, and jeez it feels like it's been ages. I'm finally back after like a month.

I walk into my house saying, "I'm home!" and... no one responds. Weird, it's pretty late at night and my mom and dad should be back from work. My brother isn't here either...

I walk into my room and it's exactly as I left it. Am I going crazy? Where is everyone? I walk into the basement when,

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

That scared me! Wait, birthday? What is the date today? It's the first day of November already?!? I lost track of time! So that's why there was no one in the house! Wait, how did they know I would get home today, did the police tell them or something?

I look into who's there, and the expected mom, dad, Kari, and my brother, who I just realized I've never stated his name. It's Kal by the way. With that out of the way, the other people are what surprises me.

I haven't had people over for my birthday in a while, like a while. But here there are a couple of people from my school, William, and is that RUBY and Osiris? How did they get here, and why are they here?

"Hehe, I forgot my birthday was today..." Aw, I'm gonna cry, no seriously, this is like the most normal thing to happen to me recently, and that's saying something. Honestly, before the Shift I was feeling kinda lonely, most of my friends had moved away, and the only people I could really talk to was my family.

I guess what I'm trying to say is... "Thank you for being here..." Did I just say that out loud... oh no.

"No problem!"

"Anything for our princess!" No, just gonna ignore that one.

"Affirmative." RUBY really isn't that responsive, is she?

And a whole lot more people answered... man can I get a break! The hug, they're crushing me! AHHH!

=== A Week Later ===

Finally! Time for school again! Never thought that I would be happy to go back to school, but here we are. Time to get caught up! Ugh...

No, but seriously, I need to get caught up on math, science, my language classes, magic studies, etc. This won't be fun.

Fast forward through the first period, nothing interesting happened there, it's now magic studies. I open my textbook about magic basics because today we aren't learning our specific magic, but instead something else. Remember how I practiced the flow of magic? It's similar to that.

The lesson is about MP training. Well, it is almost impossible to increase the amount of MP you have, however it is possible to make your MP more efficient.

There are multiple ways of doing this, one is better understanding. Understanding your body's MP circulation can reduce the amount you spend as well as understanding the physics behind the spell you want to cast. Another thing is imagination, before science started developing, most people increased efficiency with imagination and circulation practice. Nowadays people study science because it's more effective, but you can't get far without the other two.

The second way is to increase the regeneration of your MP. Even if you only have a set amount of MP, if you spend it and replenish it at the same speed, you can cast the same spell indefinitely, in theory anyway.

There are a couple more, but they aren't important right now, because the first two are what we are doing in class, now how do you increase the regeneration of MP you might ask, the answer is a lot more simple than you would expect, it's to spend MP.

As your body produces adenosine triphosphate, or ATP, a side effect of that, for unknown reasons, is that it also produces MP. This MP is sent through your body to your brain, and there it is stored. How much MP created from a single ATP molecule is dependent on the body and how much you've trained.

A common theory is that MP is like the ATP of the soul, and your body produces it to keep the soul alive, but no one knows for sure.

Of course, your body can only store a certain amount of MP, and any excess MP will normally be removed from your body through, ahem, natural bodily functions

For those of you who don't know what ATP is, well long story short is that it is what your body produces to power itself. See, easy to remember!

Honestly, sometimes I feel I learn the most important things in the magic studies class...
