Special MP

"So... how are we gonna test this?"

"Just think of anything you would want to conjure using magic. Water, fire, air, earth, whatever, just do it."

"Is it really that simple?"

"Not for the complicated stuff, knowing the science behind what you are trying to conjure makes it quicker and less MP-costly, but lets just start with this."

"Okay... I'm trying but nothing is happening."

"That's weird, everyone can use MP."

"Do I not have MP then, or?"

"No, if you didn't have MP, that would mean you don't have a soul."

"Oh... okay."

"Yeah, let me see something."

I walk up to her. Checking the flow of her MP, I find something weird. Her MP is thick, almost like honey. While most people have MP that flows like water, her MP is more viscous and doesn't flow as well. Naturally, it can't seem to leave her body.

"Your MP, it's thick like honey, it can't flow properly out of your body."

"Does that mean I can't use magic?"

"No, it just means your magic has to be contained within the body. Like Transformation magic or Enhancement magic."

"Aww, I wanted to spit fireballs. Well, I guess I'll try Transformation magic first."

Well, let's see how this turns out, I'm sure this won't be a disaster. I can see her fist start to shift into some stone hammer, so I guess the magic is working.

"That turned out better than I- oh, never mind."

She made her stone hammer arm too big, couldn't handle the weight, and it crashed into the ground leaving a mark.

"Great job Sophia."

"Oh shut up, I'm gonna try Enhancement magic now. I just imagine strengthening myself, right?"

"Yeah, just do that, and it should work."

"Okay... and... jump!"

And... there she goes. I can barely see her, she's just so high up. Oh great, I'll need to catch her. Using Gravity magic, I slow her descent so she won't kill herself.

"So, from what I can see, your magic is strong but hard to control and can't leave the body. Whether or not your MP's special quality is a good or bad thing solely relies on your ability to learn to control it."

"I could put that together you know."

A bit more arguing later, and we decided on this, Sophia should choose what magic to specialize in after she learns to control her MP better. I found this book about how to calm your MP flow and gave it to her, hopefully it will help.

I'm still in shock that she's alive, but I'm definitely not complaining. I mean, it isn't every day that someone comes back to life.

"Now that we've somewhat resolved that problem, we need to figure out your race."

"Why is that even important?"

"Well, some races have different diets, and some have different needs, such as the need to charge or photosynthesize."

"What kind of race needs to photosynthesize?"

"You'd be surprised."

"You're an Elf, can you eat meat?"

"Well, not all that modern representation of fantastical creatures is accurate. The first time elves appeared in mythology, they abducted children and brought them to the forests. We don't do that either though... at least I hope not."

"Okay okay, so how do we find out my race."

"Check your ID."

"Huh?"

"Check your ID"

"What ID?"

"School ID, driver's license, permit, whatever. It normally has your race registered, because in emergency situations one's race may determine the kind of care they require, and if in an emergency the wrong care is administered, the person may die."

"Okay, I'll go grab my school ID, I've kind of been dead for a while and don't know if I have a license or permit. I'll need to run back home real quick."

"Got it. See you in a bit."

So while Sophia is out getting her school ID, I need to ask William about something. I message him asking, "Hey, I have a question about that weird dream you had. The one where everyone was a Sapient, what day did you have that dream?"

He surprisingly responds quickly, messaging, "I can't remember the exact date, like 2 days ago."

That confirms my suspicion, somehow Sophia regaining her memories of before the Shift and Williams dream are connected. They happened right around the same time, and are so similar.

"Hey Jess, I'm back!"

"Hey, you get your ID?"

"Yep. Here it is, it says I'm a Dragon Zodiac. What is a Zodiac?"

"Well, they are kind of like Beastkin, but will change appearances based on the zodiac that year, and the day of the week."

"That's cool!"

"Yep."

"What has been happening is kind of weird, I have another friend named William who had a dream of the world before the Shift not too long ago. It must be related to your memories coming back. He doesn't realize that the dream he had is actually a real memory though."

"Should we tell him?"

"Would he believe us? You have to admit, if you couldn't remember the time before the Shift, would you believe me if I told you the whole world has changed overnight?"

"Fair point. So what should we do?"

"For now, just do what I did, resolve yourself, and live the best you can. We probably can't turn the world back to the way it used to be, and even if we could, a lot of people's lives are better because of this Shift. Think about yourself. You came back from the dead!"

"Fine, I'll do what you say for now."

"I'm not telling you to give up on turning the world back, but just understand that the chance of there even being a way to undo what the Shift did is unbelievably slim, that's what I've learned at least."

"Okay..."

We should go talk to William though, he could be of help. That dream proves that his memory could be coming back, just like Sophia's did. Well, we'll see.
