Wen Ning is in a, somehow, normal situation despite the circumstances.
He is sitting in Doctor Jian's office with his father who is reading a report in his hand while the doctor is serving them tea. Wen Ning thanks the doctor and they start chatting. The topics vary from his health and pregnancy to the latest medical findings from the southern country. Despite the constant chatting from the two, Bai Chao has not lifted his eyes from the report, instead taking sips from his tea from time to time as he continues on. 15 minutes have passed and a sigh is heard. Wen Ning looks at the tired general, who is massaging his temple while his eyes are close. It seems Bai Chao has finally finish reading the report.
Wen Ning can see how exhausted the older man was. As he was reading the report, Wen Ning couldn't help hearing the grumbles and curses from Bai Chao. A frown was permenantly place on his handsome face while he was reading the report. Wen Ning guesses there wasn't any good news in it.
Despite being in his late 40s, he still looks like he was in his late 30s with only slight wrinkles and silver hair due to stress and probably from old age. Still, the man is a silver fox. Wen Ning does not doubt that any young lady would easily fall for him, ignoring the old age just to be with the War General of Zhenbou. Urgg, he shouldn't be thinking of Bai Yujin's father like that.
Wen Ning drinks his tea, hiding the slight blush that has appear on his cheeks. A-Jia gives him a judgemental look. It probably heard what he was thinking just now. Wen Ning ignores his gaze and pretends like normal.
Recentally, they found out that A-Jia is able to hear Wen Ning's thoughts. Althought Wen Ning cannot hear any of the sugar glider's thoughts, it seems A-Jia also can't hear everything that goes on in Wen Ning's mind. The ones he has been hearing is usually when Wen Ning is busy admiring people, for example, right now.
A-Jia puts its paw on its chin and contemplates for a moment before flying to Bai Chao's shoulder and starts to pat the man's beard. "Ouch! Master, how can you like this type of man? Their fur is so prickly! Look, their fur here isn't as soft as A-Jia's fur. Master should like A-Jia more," it points at the unshaven beard of Bai Chao and has a proud look on its face when it talks about their shiny fur (due to the brushing Wen Ning does to it every morning with a special comb, a gift from King Qinguang). Wen Ning couldn't help himself from choking on his tea. He coughs out continuously surprising the two occupants in the room and his back is quickly patted by the doctor. The cough ceased and Wen Ning silently glares at A-Jia who is puffing its chest out. 'You damn rascal! Making a joke at a time like this,' Wen Ning rubs his neck, trying to soothe the pain.
"Are you alright young master? That was quite a nasty cough," Doctor Jian says, looking very worry of Wen Ning. Wen Ning smiles grimly and nods to the doctor. "I'm fine. Just…got distracted," "Ah, I'm glad," the two continue to look at each other until "Ahem," and the doctor quickly pulls his hand to his back and nervously looks away from the young man as knife like glares watches him. Wen Ning is completely oblivious to the said glare coming from Bai Chao.
Bai Chao moves his seat closer to his son and puts his arm around Bai Yujin's chair. The doctor internally screams as the glare deepens and he feels like half of his life just got cut off. General, you are threatening the wrong person! Huhu…
"You…since when have you been close to my son?" despite the easy-going tone, a threat was hidden behind that question. The doctor nervously laughs and scratches his head to distract himself from the overpowering aura this protective father is emitting. "We are not that close general. As his doctor, I do care for my patient's health. Especially now that young master's pregnancy is in its third trimester," the doctor assures Bai Chao who still looks suspicious. He finally nods and looks at his son, who is sitting there quietly watching the two. His gaze now moves towards Bai Yujin's stomach and gives a long look to it.
"How…is it? Uncomfortable?" Bai Chao questions, hesitation in his voice. Wen Ning shakes his head, a soft smile on those lips. "The child is healthy. It will be eight months in a few more days. They like to move a lot so sometimes its uncomfortable but that just means the child is very active," Wen Ning says as he looks fondly at his belly and rubs it. A small hit makes Wen Ning laugh. This child just knows when someone is giving them attention. Wen Ning shyly looks at Bai Chao. "Does father want to feel the baby move?" Bai Chao eyes turn wide despite the impassive look on his face. So similar to Liu Li Feng. Are all high rank soldiers stuck with that face? Bai Chao turns quiet but Wen Ning can see the want he has for that request despite hiding well his panic. Definitely a professional when it comes to hiding one's emotion.
Before the older man could answer, Wen Ning puts Bai Chao's hand on his belly. The baby hits, surprising the stoic man and Bai Chao quickly removes his hand, looking at Wen Ning's belly in wonder. "That, that…," Bai Chao's voice wavers and his tone shaky. Wen Ning gently touches Bai Chao's hand and massages his fingers, calming his tense muscles. Such action made the general take a deep breath. Seeing that the man has started to relax, Wen Ning again slowly places the hand on his stomach. Another softer hit could be felt after that. "Oh," Bai Chao small gasp and hidden excitement made Wen Ning giggle. "Father, it's your grandchild," Wen Ning says this with warmth in his voice, trying not to scare the big man away. His father slowly nods his head and a small lift of lips could be seen if one looked closely. Such an awkward yet gentle person.
"You're smiling," the doctor says in shock. Bai Chao's smile dissapears hearing that as he fixes his gaze on the doctor, looking at him like he was a tiny ant in the general's eyes. "So?" "You rarely smile," Bai Chao grunts on that statement. "I bloody well can smile," "I can see that. Just can't imagine the same guy who used to make junior soldiers cry can smile like that," the doctor is reminded back of memories during his youth; a group of young men being drilled to finish the exercise course in the rain by the demon in front of him. He shivers remembering that.
Wen Ning, interested in hearing more, beams at the doctor. "I didn't know Doctor Jian knew father during his younger days?" he exclaims excitingly. The doctor nods while he refills Wen Ning's tea. "To be an army doctor, I had to finish at least the basics since they would send us to the field. Now, you don't need it to be an army doctor since the kingdom is peaceful. General here is my senior," he points to a Bai Chao who is still focus on the belly. He is rubbing Wen Ning's belly and humming as he gets a reaction from the child in it. Wen Ning lets the older man be although he can see that the doctor finds it weird, judging from the face he is making, for the always serious soldier to be very doting towards their unborn grandchild. "You must have some stories?" "Tons. Would you like to hear one?" a growl emits from Bai Chao which scares the doctor. "Umm, maybe next time," the doctor nervously says as he moves his chair further from the angry general.
Bai Chao has stop rubbing Wen Ning's bbelly and the room is now fill with silence. Wen Ning decides to finally broach the the topic that made him decide to come here today. "Father, with your permission, I would very much like to be a medical apprentice," he looks at the man's eyes, not backing down when Bai Chao narrows his.
After moments pass, realizing his son wasn't affected by his silence, Bai Chao grumbles a bit and crosses both his arms. "Give me one good reason why I should allow this?" In truth, he wanted to say no but the look on his son's face was something he has never seen before. Yujin was firm and unwavering in his pursue (to probably be more independent, Bai Chao thinks) and he can't help but be proud of his youngest.
Yujin was always afraid of him. He does not fault the child since Bai Chao himself realizes his strict and often scowling face scares even the people around him. He doesn't mean to; he was born with these facial features and his oldest unfortunately has his face but it is softened with his late wife's features. Even his resting face scares little children. He feels sadden by this. His two eldest had the nerve to laugh at his complain. He in return made them run laps in the field until they crawled to him, begging to stop. Hmm, is he cruel?
No, he isn't.
Anyway, his youngest Yujin is very different from his other siblings. Not because he is a ger but because of his weak health, cause by the poison that effected his late wife's womb that Bai Chao can't help but cherish him more. He promised his wife on her deathbed that nothing would befall Yujin and with his youngest looking very much like her, it makes his protective instinct go on high alert. Holding the small infant Yujin in his arms, he couldn't help but feel weak. This tiny child of his, the moment his eyes fell on Yujin, everything became irrelevant. His life, from then on, was now for his sons. Yes, including those two knucklehead sons of his.
But it was difficult for him. As a man who dedicated his life to the army, he does not have the soft touch and sensitivity of his late wife. He is rough in showing his affection and he does not know how to start a conversation with his soft spoken and timid son. Whenever he does try, it seems like his tongue is stuck in his throat and the cycle repeats itself; silence and awkwardness will always fill the room. He even made little Yujin, who wanted a hug from him, accidentally cried once due to his scary face thinking that Bai Chao was angry of his request. Bai Chao sulked inside his room for two days before Yujin's voice called out to him urging him to eat dinner. He quickly opens the door, happy to hear his son's cute voice and was then faced by a trembling Yujin who got surprised with his sudden appearance. Also, him towering over a small Yujin, nearly made the child cry again. He really is a mess of a father.
Bai Chao then made the decision to not appear much in front of Yujin thinking that is was good for his son's mental health to not be in constant fear around him. That was a mistake too and now he is seeing the negative effects of his decisions. He was in despair thinking that this father and son relationship will remain unchanged.
But then here Yujin was, talking with him normally and even allowing him to feel the baby kicking. He was in cloud nine. He was also surprise to see the always timid Yujin asking his permission to be a medical apprentice and how determine this child was to be one brought tears to Bai Chao's eyes. He was tempted to say yes because this was a request from his youngest but remembering that there were eyes watching them made Bai Chao stopped himself. It will be difficult to protect Yujin if he is constantly outside but the shine in his son's eyes made him weak to say no. Well, he just has to work harder to protect Yujin when the child goes outside. Still, he at least has to hear Yujin's reason.
Wen Ning prepares himself to face Bai Chao. A-Jia was even cheering him on while it was standing on the older man's head. That child, Wen Ning wonders how it can be so carefree. He takes a deep breath and calms himself. "Fa-Father, I have always thought that I am a bu-burden to you. I know I can't be like my elder brothers and I don't really want to. I can't be as smart as Shi-ge or confident like Zi-ge but Yujin knows his own strengh. I, I love medicine! I like learning about it and I know I want to be a doctor in the future. I don't know what is in store for me in the coming years but I know I want medicine to be in my path. I…I want to be independent and I want 'sniff' to make you proud of me. So please, allow Yujin to show you that he can also be a son that his father can be proud of," tears fell from Wen Ning's eyes as he half-bows to Bai Chao, cradling his belly for comfort.
These feelings inside of him, its not only Bai Yujin's but also Wen Ning's. What he is saying now comes from his heart and he cannot deny how this is not affecting him. How does the king expect someone to fake themselves, to fake their feelings? Yes, the original has died but Wen Ning is replacing their previous life and doesn't this make it his life now? Aren't the people around him affected by his actions despite him 'acting' as the original? When did Wen Ning realize he had stop acting and has just been himself? This, is this what King Qinguang meant; to live his life to the fullest, while not having any regrets but still suffering at the same time. That kind of notion is surely cruel and he can't stop the tears from falling when he thinks about it. Ahhh, he hates this already.
Suddenly, Wen Ning's chin is gently raised up and he is faced with a fierce Bai Chao whose eyes are blazing with uncontrol anger. Wen Ning knows this isn't directed at him but towards Bai Chao himself.
How could he be so blind? As a father, Bai Chao was supposed to protect his child but his son felt the need to keep all his emotions bottle up inside because Yujin was afraid Bai Chao would look down on those feelings, calling it useless and a waste of time. Has he long failed his son? No! Bai Chao will not allow this.
Bai Chao took a deep breath and calm the anger inside him. He gently clears Wen Ning's tears using a handkerchief from his pocket and talks to a hicupping Wen Ning in a soothen voice, shushing him gently when new tears start to emerge. Wen Ning quiets down but tears still keep falling. Bai Chao lets it be and rubs his back. "Bai Yujin, I have never, never in my life consider you a burden. You and your brothers are not a burden to me, never will and don't you forget that. I know what I am going to say will sound like an excuse but everything I have ever done is to protect you and your brothers. I should have realized. I shouldn't have left you alone and full of doubts. I should have been there more. I am…a no-good father. I know I can't turn back time and fix the past but I will change my ways for the better. I hope you can forgive me Yujin,"
His face may look confident but Bai Chao's voice indicate the opposite. He felt like a failure at this moment not like his confident General of Zhenbou persona.
Hearing those words from Bai Chao, Wen Ning's heart felt light and the heaviness he often felt was dissapearing slowly. With that, he gives a sniff and with his eyes still on Bai Chao, Wen Ning nods continuously, his mind screaming 'yes!'. Bai Chao laughs a bit, his heart too feeling light despite trying hard not to cry in front of his son. He pats Wen Ning's head and looks fondly at him. "I am proud of you Yujin and…I love you so, so much," Bai Chao voice cracks as he says this and he quickly tries to cover it up with a cough. Wen Ning eyes went wide when he hears this. His lips wobbles and without caring, he jumps at Bai Chao shouting out "Father!" and hugs him tightly, shocking the always stern man. Bai Chao hesitates at first, his hands moving around not knowing where to place them but he returns back the hug with his own.
The moment between the two was sweet. Even with A-Jia bawling its eyes out, nothing could break this tender moment between father and son.
"This is so precious! No one is going to believe me when I tell them the general is actually a loving person,"
Well, except for a nosy spectator.
Bai Chao cuts the hug short, to the dismay of Wen Ning and gives the doctor a threatening glare together with a scowl. The doctor looks away and busies himself with arranging the papers on his table, trying his best to act normally after witnessing the sweet yet private moment.
"You, sleep with one eye open," Bai Chao lowly growls at the frighten doctor. Wen Ning slaps the general's knee playfully. "Father stop, don't do that," despite the warning, Wen Ning couldn't help but laugh at the doctor's terrified face. Bai Chao tsk and crosses his leg, his back straight and face as ice cold as ever. If eyes could kill, Doctor Jian would be dead by now.
Bai Chao's loud sigh catches the two peoples' attention. "Fine, I will allow you to be an apprentice learning under this guy here," the general points at Doctor Jian who is also happy to hear the decision. Wen Ning wanted to jump in joy from hearing this. "BUT there are a few conditions," Wen Ning tilts his head in confusion and Bai Chao just smirks. He ruffles Wen Ning's hair, messing it up which made Wen Ning pouts.
"Nothing too serious. Just a precaution to ease my worries. Before we talk about that, Doctor Jian," Bai Chao fixed his sight on the puzzled doctor. "Yes general?" the doctor sees that Bai Chao was looking up and down at him, eyes looking dissatisfied. He feels small suddenly. "What are your intentions with my son?" Bai Chao says seriously which earns a 'what the heck' look from both Wen Ning and the doctor. "Are you interested in him romantically eventhough he has a husband?" Wen Ning thought Bai Chao was making a joke but his tone indicated how serious he was in asking that question. Wen Ning blushes redly looking at his father (he realizes he has been thinking of this person and the two elder brothers as his family, so why not just call them that) in disbelieve while the doctor was embaress by that question and becomes a mumbling fool.
"Father!"
Another problem now appears. Sigh.
*****
Outside the doctor's office during the talk, stood Liu Li Feng and Sun Junjie, standing a distance beside each other waiting for the people in the office to come out with their backs on the wall. They have been silently waiting, both not talking ever since the general kick them out of the room and told them to scram. Usually they would follow such order but today's circumstance makes them unable to.
Liu Li Feng because he wants to talk to Bai Yujin, to aplogize back for hurting him last time and wanting to discuss about the…divorce. It's a topic he doesn't even want to broach on but even when Liu Li Feng tries to meet with the ger, Rou Yao would gruffly tell him that the young master does not want to meet him. It has only been three days and the need to see Bai Yujin has only become stronger. He doesn't even understand this himself. He used to only see Bai Yujin once a week, out of necessity but now, he can't stand himself not being able to meet his…wife. Even saying that word feels right even though he knows he does not have the right to say it. What is wrong with him?
He wants to blame it on the outing but he knows that is just an excuse. Seeing Bai Yujin act and talk freely around him, showing expressions that he has never seen on the ger and getting to know those small quirks of Bai Yujin (for such a small body, he does eat a lot) made Liu Li Feng slowly show interest in Bai Yujin himself. He should have stop himself from getting closer, he should have cut that distance but then Bai Yujin just had to show his inner fire by telling him off that day. The heat radiating in those eyes, the flushing red cheeks from both cold and suppressed anger, the exasperation voice coming from the usual soft-spoken man and that hidden strength he has even when knowing he was facing a dangerous Liu Li Feng; it ignited something within him that was so similar to how he feels for Sun Junjie. He can't, he shouldn't. This isn't fair to Sun Junjie who has given his heart to Liu Li Feng but it seems he can't stop.
Liu Li Feng looks over to Sun Junjie who has been whistling for quite some time. With his eyes close, he has been whistling a tune that is very familiar to Liu Li Feng. The first time he heard it is during their younger days. They have been sitting next to each other, resting under a tree after a tiring day of training. Sun Junjie had laid his head on Liu Li Feng's shoulder and started to whistle a tune. The tune might sound like any random whistle to strangers but to Liu Li Feng, it made his heart feel full and warm. Sun Junjie says the tune doesn't have a name, he couldn't find a suitable name for it but Sun Junjie knows he only started whistling this tune whenever he thinks or is with Liu Li Feng. It then became their song that only the two know of.
"You are unusually quiet," Liu Li Feng says, carefully threading the silent atmosphere. Sun Junjie seems to have heard him as he stops whistling, looking at the door of the doctor's office and has an unreadable face on him. "So, that's Bai Yujin huh," Sun Junjie says nonchantly, which made Liu Li Feng lift a brow. He nods at that statement and tries to let out words, but he couldn't. There was nothing to say. He looks down, staring at his feet feeling quite ashamed of himself.
He wished he could leave this duty of his and continue living blissfully with Sun Junjie by his side but he has to stop rejetting his reality and face it. His wife and lover meeting eachother for the first time, wasn't this the point on which he has to choose between them? He doesn't even want to think about it. It makes him sick.
"You know, I thought I would hate him but surprisingly, I don't," Sun Junjie suddenly voices out. Liu Li Feng quickly turns his head towards his lover, a huge shock on his always impassive face. Sun Junjie had the nerve to laugh loudly when he sees his face. "Oh my god! Look at your face. You look like you just heard your brother doing something nice for someone. Hehehe," Sun Junjie points at Liu Li Feng, still snikering to himself. Liu Li Feng growls and grips Sun Junjie's wrist. "Don't, this is serious Junjie," he says sternly, his grip tightens a bit to convey the seriousness. Sun Junjie laughter slowly stops until only a small smile graces his lips. He brought the gripped wrist towards him and places a kiss to Liu Li Feng's hand. "I know Li Feng and jokes aside, I'm being serious too," Sun Junjie carresses that hand with his lips, leaving small kisses to it before giving one of Liu Li Feng's finger a bite. Liu Li Feng gasps and then frowns at Sun Yunjie despite the redness of his ears. Sun Junjie leaves Liu Li Feng's hand alone and stood closer to him, side by side their shoulders touching. He lets Liu Li Feng hold his hand as Sun Junjie lets their arms fall, still with that smile on him.
"When I was bringing him here, he kept asking me things about you,"
"…Is that so,"
"Yeah, he wanted to hear stories about our army days especially stories of you in it,"
"I doubt he found them interesting,"
"Oh, he actually loves it. Kept laughing the whole time. Not only does he have a cute face, his laugh is cute too,"
"You…you didn't,"
"I did. I flirted and he flirted back. It was fun,"
Liu Li Feng sighs. "Shameless," he pinches his partner's hand which earns a small shout from Sun Junjie. "I can't imagine Bai Yujin…flirting," he says in distaste, not of Bai Yujin but the act of flirting itself. Liu Li Feng, in Sun Junjie's words, 'fails in the art of flirting like a normal human being'.
Sun Junjie hides his laughter using his free hand. "He actually is a great flirter, better than you are," Sun Junjie remembers the last time Liu Li Feng tried to flirt back at him. It was an utter failure but Sun Junjie finds it cute that the expressionless Liu Li Feng was trying to flirt back with him. That is a part of Liu Li Feng he finds charming. But his laughter doesn't last long as he remembers the rest of the day he spent with Bai Yujin.
Sun Junjie lets out a long sigh that made Liu Li Feng worry. He could see the conflicted gaze on his lover. He squeezed Sun Junjie's hand, urging him to talk. There was some hesitation but seeing that Liu Li Feng patiently waiting, Sun Junjie decides to let it out.
"When I was talking about you, I was kind of chattering about normal stuff. Like the places we went, what we do during free time and how busy you get. You know, the usual," Sun Junjie waves his free hand to emphasize what he means. "I kept talking and talking and he kept quiet through all that. I thought he was bored because I wasn't even talking about how cool you are or how important your status as prince and commander is but he didn't. He was actually listening intentively to what I was saying. He even asks me what your favourite food is and when I told him, he just…nods and smiles at me. He had that look on his face that says 'ah, now I know,'. I, I kinda teased him saying, you're asking me all these questions about the prince, do you have feelings for him. And you know what he said, he said only in his dreams would the prince look at him and he was just imagining what it would be like to be childhood friends with you. Now that I know who he actually is, he probably knew who I was because he had that knowing look on his face when I told him my name. I think I kind of acted like a bastard to him and he probably thought I was gloating. I, my intent wasn't like that. I don't want him to think of me as such a person," Sun Junjie grips Liu Li Feng's hand, angry with himself. He should have known.
Liu Li Feng wasn't doing any good either. Hearing what Bai Yujin said from Sun Junjie, he realized that Bai Yujin and him, despite their official husband and wife status, are strangers. He doesn't know anything about his wife from the first initial meeting when they were kids and even now after their marriage, he barely knows anything.
He knows Bai Yujin likes to eat, he knows he has a weak physique, he knows his wife likes to walk and see new things, he knows that the ger loves their child very much (the constant rubbing of his belly makes Liu Li Feng feel warm whenever he sees it) and he knows from that day they went out in the city, from looking at the back of Bai Yujin who tries to distance the space between them whenever Liu Li Feng holds him, that this person is strong, caring and lonely.
He knew their relationship but Bai Yujin kept it to himself, even treating Sun Junjie normally. That showed that Bai Yujin was a more better person compare to Liu Li Feng.
"Its not your fault Junjie. It…was inevitable. We fell in love," "Is it worth it? Is it worth being together when we know we are hurting someone, hurting him?" Sun Junjie bit his lips, feeling frustrated with their situation. He should have ended this relationship before it got too much. But he couldn't, he loves Liu Li Feng too much to stop these feelings inside of him. So, he stays because nothing feels better than loving Liu Li Feng.
Liu Li Feng could see the frustration coming from Sun Junjie. He pushes himself off the wall and walks in front of Sun Junjie. He puts both his hands-on Sun Junjie's face as he places their foreheads together, his eyes not straying from his beloved. He lets out a long exhale, sorting his thoughts. "Junjie, I have no regrets in being with you. I love you, remember that. I'm going to fix this, I promise. Whatever happens know that my choice will always be you," Liu Li Feng confesses, his resolve firm when he says this. Sun Junjie's eyes were already red but no tears escaped. "You can't flirt but you can say all these embaressing words. My Liu-er ge is really a romantic prince," he gave a wobbly smile as his voice quavers.
His eyes looked down, uncertainty in them. "Yujin, we need to talk to him, we need to explain. This might sound cruel but I, I actually don't want to let him go. He just looks so lonely that I can't help but want to be around and protect him. Also, I think he needs a friend and why not me. I know I'm only going to hurt him but I can't Li Feng, I just want to be around him, that's all," Sun Junjie says, he himself thinking how stupid his suggestion was. How could Bai Yujin stand to be around him, knowing that the man who helped him to the infirmary is actually his husband's lover. He sounds selfish even to his ears but he has always been selfish, whats one more selfishness.
Liu Li Feng contemplated on this. It was a bad idea, he knows this but he too feels the same way as Sun Junjie. He doesn't want to see the lonely figure of Bai Yujin anymore. He wants that hurt inside him to stop whenever the ger walks away from him and he wants to be a part of Bai Yujin's life together with Sun Junjie. It will be difficult to convince Bai Yujin that they were honest with their intentions but there was that small chance that Bai Yujin would agree to this and Liu Li Feng wanted to grasp that chance. He can't explain it but he can't let this go.
Catching back Sun Junjie's eyes on him, Liu Li Feng gently threads through his partner's shoulder length hair. "Then we have to take it slow. Frightening him is the last thing I want to do. If you want to be friends with him just…don't be too pushy. I know how you can get when you find something interesting," "Its not just that! I do like Yujin, he's funny, smart and really sweet. What's not to like?" he pouts at Liu Li Feng and the man lets out a small laugh seeing such childishness. "Yes, yes I understand but remember Junjie, you have to tell me everything when you're with him," his tone serious. Sun Junjie just giggles at that "Are you jealous?" he playfully says but the narrowed eyes makes him stop. "Of course Li Feng but~ maybe you should persuade me more? You know, I might just keep Yujin for myself," he smiles slyly and bites on Liu Li Feng's ear. Liu Li Feng groans and pushes Sun Junjie to the wall. His face moving closer to his beloved, their lips inches apart. "Shameless," he breathily says as he moves his lips closer to the grinning man.
Suddenly, they hear the sound of a door opening and quickly push each other away. They stood a bit farther away and acted normal when three men came out of Doctor Jian's office. Both young soldiers' eye brightens when they heard soft laughter from the shortest of the three men. Bai Yujin was laughing at something the doctor said while holding onto General Bai's arm. The general was glaring at the doctor who was telling Bai Yujin a story that seems to be about him. Bai Yujin would have continued chatting with the doctor but when he sees the two standing in front of him, his laughter instantly stops and his lips turn into a thin line. He looks away from them and fiddles with the cloth of his outer robes using his other hand. Sun Junjie's grin falter and Liu Li Feng felt like a knife just stabbed his heart.
Bai Chao, realizing his son's dampen mood, moves in front of him and covers Bai Yujin from their sight. "What are you two still doing here?" he says stiffly, seeing the two awkwardly standing as they faced him.
Sun Junjie quickly smiles back as he rubs the back of his head. "General, we were waiting for Bai Yujin actually," he looks at Bai Yujin who tenses when he heard his name. The young man plays with his fingers, eyes now on the floor. The general crosses his arms and narrowed his eyes on the oblivious Sun Junjie whose eyes are now on his Yujin. "We are actually in a hurry so if Yujin cou-," before Sun Junjie could get close to Bai Yujin and bring him away, Bai Chou grips his hand and gives a look to it as if the hand had offended Bai Chao himself. "You dare to touch my son," the general snarls out lowly so that Sun Junjie was the only one who could hear. Liu Li Feng, sensing danger, wanted to walk towards them but the fiery look on the general had him frozen at his spot. Sun Junjie still kept that smile on his face as he bites his lips, ignoring the pain coming from his hand.
As Sun Junjie was trying to come up with an explanation, Wen Ning took his father's hand away and slaps the general's thick arm. "Stop it. I can handle myself father. Now, go away. I thought you had something important to do," Wen Ning made a shoo motion with his hand as he urged Bai Chao to go. His father gives him a forlorn look and just sighs. He got closer to Wen Ning, pushing his bangs up and promptly gives a chaste kiss to his forehead. "Scream if they do anything. Also, I'll come visit soon," he whispers to Wen Ning who nods while giggling.
Bai Chao moves away and fixes his uniform. He gives an irritated look to the two soldiers before walking away with Doctor Jian, saying his goodbyes to Bai Yujin before following the general from behind.
As their figures disappear around the corner, Wen Ning quickly glances at the two soldiers staring at him and he pouts at them. "I hope you have a good reason because I really don't want to talk to the both of you right now," "But later we can talk?" "Stop being cheeky and just tell me," Wen Ning mutters at the grinning Sun Junjie who was trying to get closer to him but Wen Ning successfully moves away. Sun Junjie looks a bit sad but after a look from Wen Ning, he behaves. "So?" Wen Ning crosses his arms and taps his foot, waiting for their excuse. Wen Ning could see, from the way Sun Junjie was laughing nervously and scratching his head now is that Sun Junjie was lying to the general just so that he could take Wen Ning away from his father. He was about to walk away, tired of the awkward silence before Liu Li Feng suddenly held his sleeve.
Wen Ning gives a brief glance to Liu Li Feng who he hasn't seen for three days. Liu Li Feng hesitated but as he looks at Wen Ning's coat, remembering the words of his damn brother, he turns angry imagining the face his brother had when Bai Yujin was mentioned. He wanted to avoid Bai Yujin meeting with Li Fei but this was their chance to be in Bai Yujin's good graces. If they wanted Bai Yujin to at least be comfortable around them, Liu Li Feng has to start by being honest.
A palm covers the hand holding onto Bai Yujin's sleeve and Liu Li Feng realizes it was the owner of the sleeve himself. Despite the small pout on those red lips, Liu Li Feng could still see the worry on Bai Yujin's adorable face. He feels touched by the small gesture. Liu Li Feng slowly calms down his anger. "My brother would like to meet with you," he says albeit begrudgingly.
Hearing this, Wen Ning quickly took interest. He glances at A-Jia who too is surprise. "The first prince! Master, A-Jia's gut says his dangerous. Don't go!" the creature tears up. To say the prince was dangerous may be too much but Wen Ning knows that he has to be caution when around Liu Li Fei. The rumors (also some truths) that he heard from the servants and the few information that A-Jia was able to collect could be summarized with a sentence; Liu Li Fei does not regret his actions even if it means making ones life a living hell. So for the prince wanting to meet him, even Wen Ning wants to avoid it as much as possible. But, if he could obtained any information regarding Zhenbou's situation and find a possible way to minimize or avoid this war, he would meet the devil prince himself.
"Alright, lets go then," Wen Ning reluctantly takes his hand back and pulls his sleeve from Liu Li Feng's hand. He walks along the corridor of the infirmary and head towards the exit. Wen Ning does not realize the fond expression of two men looking at him from behind, with one who then starts to whistle as their eyes gazes downwards and the other slapping his head with red ears when he realizes what his partner was staring.
They quickly walk towards Wen Ning, each men walking by his side. If Wen Ning felt the small pressure of hands on his back and waist, guiding him to the castle, well he could looked pass it this once and enjoy the attention that is being given to him.
He deserves that much.
