It's Me

A knock on the door interrupted Pearl's thoughts. She stood up to open it. Her legs were numb because she had been squatting on the ground for a long time, she had to hold the wall and stumbled forward.

"Who is it?" she asked.

Every night, strange sounds would come from here. Some people laughed, some sang, and some cried out in despair. Someone would die in two or three days with their bodies being carried out to be cremated.

Robert did not dare to speak but only stand at the door silently. He was afraid that if he said something, Pearl would not open the door for him. As her footsteps gradually approached, he was extremely nervous.

"It's me," Robert replied.

The outside was silent. He just told Robert that he had finally come, and hoped it was not too late.
