Chapter 3

-3-

"Bro, those creatures are real! Dema real! Me did see dem wid me two yai inna di woods... Awuh me tell you man, they almost killed her! But I was with my gun, I shot two of them dead... Yah man, unnu haffi come ober... Aright". He ends the call and keeps it on the glass center table in the living room. He is in Natasha's apartment. Natasha hasn't gained consciousness yet. He layed her on the couch and sat right next to her. Waiting for her to wake up. He was a dark skinned man having long dreadlocks and beard. He was probably in his late 20s, and he was Natasha's fiancee.

He took off his green jacket for comfort, remaining with with his black singlet and black trouser. He reached for his smartphone on the table and was about making a phonecall when Natasha gasped and opened her eyes wide. He dropped his phone immediately and turned to her.

"Where are they"?! She panted.

"You mean the vampires"?

"Yes, did they die"?

"Yes my love, they died, I killed them, just relax ok"?

"Ok". She released a sigh. He helped her rise to sit. "Thank you Damian, I would have been dead by now if you weren't there to save me".

"Don't mention, Honey, I'm so glad that I was there to save you on time. I don't know how I would have lived without you". He says. Taking her hands in his hands.

"You knew about the vampires"?

"Yes I did, but I chose to remain silent about it until I had concrete evidence to tell others about them".

"Me too! Me did see dem las night inna di woods 'pon me way back home".

"Yar serious"?!

"Yes, they would have killed me yesterday. They chased me until I got into the neighborhood, then they vanished".

"Lawd hab mercy! Why did you go to see the psychiatrist this morning? 'cause when you called me you didn't sound bothered at all, you sounded like everything was fine".

"Yeah, when I woke up this morning I was feeling unsure about what happened, I couldn't tell if it was a dream or not, not until I followed the same route on my way to the hospital, then I remembered vividly everything that happened. The psychiatrist didn't believe me when I told him that the vampires were real and that they attacked me. He insisted that I took him to the woods, and when we were there he walked into the woods to prove to me that I had hallucinated all what I told him I saw, and that was when the vampires came and killed him. It's all my fault, I wish I had not taken him there, he wouldn't have died". She subs.

"Hey, don't cry, it's not your fault. You didn't kill him, and besides he even put you in danger by taking you to the woods at night. They would have also killed you if I wasn't there to save you". He hugs her and paths her on her back. "I changed your clothes 'cause the other ones were torn by the Bat". He said. Releasing her from his hug.

"Thank you Honey".

"You're welcome, me pretty gyal". He flatters her, and it puts a smile on her face. There was a knock on the door.

"I'm not expecting anyone, it's 9:50pm already". She says. Wondering who could be at the door by this time of the night.

"It should be our friends, I called them over".

"Oh, why"?

"Cus dem know bout di vampires too". He says as he walks to the door.

"Wuh yar chat"?! She exclaims. He opened the door after looking through the peep hole, and their visitors came inside. They were two boys and a girl. They all rushed to Natasha to be sure that she wasn't hurt by those creatures in the woods.

"How are you Natasha, did they harm or give you bruises"? The girl asked as she hugged Natasha and sat next to her on the couch. She had long braided afro hair that reached her waist.

"I'm fine Zayna, they almost killed me but they didn't, my Superman saved me". She said. Looking at Damian who sat next to her, with a broad smile on her lips. He smiled and put his arm around her waist.

"Big up me Breda"! One of the boys teasingly saluted him, and they all gave Damian a broad smile. He also had long dreadlocks like that of Damian.

"Nuff rispek Johnny". Damian said to him.

"But what the hell are those creatures?! They're so big, and their horrible red eyes scares me to death! I can't just get the pictures out of my head". Natasha said.

"We nuh know where dem come from". The other boy replied. He was fair skinned and also had dreadlocks. "But I think if we search for giant vampire bats on the internet we might find some informative blogs or articles about them".

"Yes, Thomas, that's a great idea". Zayna says.

"Give me a sec let me get my laptop". Natasha says. She walks into her room and comes out with a pink colored laptop in her hand. She sits back on the couch between Damian and Zayna, and turns it on with a long press on the power button. She controls the mouse in the screen to click on the Google search app, and searches for giant vampire Victims. Johnny and Thomas leaned forward to get a better view. They all focused on the screen of the laptop. Natasha scrolled down to find what they were looking for.

"Hey! click on that one: Giant vampire bats of doom". Johnny tells her. She clicks on it and a long essay takes over the screen, having the title: Giant vampire bats of doom; No escape for their victims.

"Who's gonna read this"? Natasha asks.

"Go on, read it Natasha". Thomas urges her.

"No I can't, I'm already getting scared, Damian please read it". She puts the laptop on his laps.

Damian looked at the screen with nervousness shown on his face.

"Bro don't tell me you're scared too". Johnny says and they all laugh. The truth is that they were all tensed.

Damian swallowed his siliver and began reading what appeared on the screen:

"You saw them tonight, you saw them last night, maybe you almost got killed and you escaped. You thought they disappeared, hahaha, you're being fooled, they know where you live, they know your apartment. Did you kill any of them? You're dead meat if you did so. They know where you live, they know your apartment, they'll come for you soon, they'll attack your whole city, not one of you will survive. They'll break your windows and burst open your doors, they're hungry for your blood and your flesh, they'll reap you apart. I am Doctor Wizzlar, the animal scientist. The Giant vampire bats are my creations, I experimented on the DNAs of little bats and hyenas, to make them extra large in size and to make them extremely wild and monstrous. After my wife was arrested and sentenced to death by hanging, for a crime she did not commit, I became wrathful with the government and the judges, so I created these creatures of mine on the 30th of June 1965 to hunt the government and everyone in your city forever. So tonight lock your doors, shut your windows, turn off the lights and don't make a single sound, not even a whisper, for they can hear you from miles, and they shall come for your blood! The night is well aware". Damain ends the reading. They were all filled with terror. Natasha and Zayna hugged each other, looking around the whole room.

"Let's turn off the lights and close the windows, and lock the doors, we can't go out tonight; we shouldn't". Natasha said with trembling.

"Hey! come on guys, don't tell me you believe any of that". Johnny says, trying to overcome his fears.

"Didn't you hear what it said?! It just said exactly all that I experienced with the vampires, and you say we shouldn't believe it"? Natasha said. Being irritated by Johnny's reaction.

"We've got to do what it says, we don't wanna take chances". Damian says.

"You too Damian"?! Johnny asks in suprise.

"Hey! What the hell is wrong with you bro"?! Thomas yells at him in annoyance."Seem say yar outa yar mind! Didn't you hear what it said? If you don't wanna stay in, you're free to walk out the door alright"?

"Fine, I'm going out". Johnny says. He stands up and heads to the front door, but Damian pulls him back forcefully and sits him back on the couch.

"You are not going anywhere Johnny. We're all gonna stay in here tonight. Tomorrow morning we'll go and report to the police about the vampires, and tell them everything that happened". Damian says. Looking at Johnny straight into his eyes. He asks Natasha and Zayna to turn off the lights and close the windows and the curtains, and lock the door. And they hurriedly do all he asks them to do.

"Hey! Damian, I'm not in for any of this nonsense, me hab tins me haffi do inna me house". Johnny said as he stood up from the couch. "I'm going out of that door, and don't try to stop me again". He said with a threatening look on his face. Natasha and Zayna had already started crying for him. They tried to stop him, but he refused. He opened the door and walked out, and Damian immediately shut the door and locked it.

The street lights were no longer on, Johnny knew this was unusual, the whole neighborhood was fully covered with the darkness of the night, with the full moon looking down from the sky, giving grey light that made shadows of different shapes and sizes on the ground and on the walls of houses. The neighborhood was so quiet, Johnny could only hear the sounds of crickets, it was as if no one lived in it. Johnny kept walking hastily, his apartment was yet a few miles away. He kicked his foot against something on the ground and he groaned loud. He didn't bother to look at what it was, he continued leaping forward with the pain. Laughters. He could hear weird laughters, scary laughters like that of a cackle of hyenas approaching. Sounds of big flapping wings, their sounds kept getting closer and louder. Johnny began running for his life, falling and getting up, with the pain he felt on his right foot. The giant bats had covered the dark sky like an army of legions. Johnny kept screaming and running to no where. He was thrown down to the ground by one of the hungry vampire bats. He was trying to get up, but the giant vampire stabbed him deep into his stomach with its claws and tore his flesh, spilling out his intestines. Johnny fell to the ground, but he was still alive, feeling sever pains. He opened his eyes wide looking at the horrible monster. He tried screaming again but it bit his tongue with its long teeth and forcefully dragged it out from his mouth and lungs, and swallowed it. Many of them gathered his lifeless body to feast on his blood and flesh, while the others kept roaving about.

Natasha and her friends in her house were very terrified as they heard Johnny's screams and sudden silence. They also heard the laughters of the creatures outside. They remained as quiet as they could. Natasha and Zayna were shaking all over and panting heavily, Damian and Thomas had to put their hands over their mouths, so that they don't scream.

Outside in the dark neighborhood, the giant vampire bats had started attacking the houses people lived in. They used their claws to tear open the doors, and used their bodies to break the walls by hitting against them. They devoured anyone they found in the houses. Loud screams were heard in the neighborhood, many people managed to escape out of their houses into the dark moonlight street, only to see more horrible looking giant bats waiting to devour them. The giant vampire bats devoured anyone they got their long teeth on; men, women and children.

Natasha and her friends saw shadows of the vampires on the curtains covering the window. They were sniffing around their apartment. Damian and Thomas held the girls' mouths tighter, so that they don't make even a single sound. They remained as silent as they could. Silence, and darkness, and vampire shadows on curtains. The vampires sniffed around for a while, and then they began going away slowly. Damian and Thomas took their hands off the mouths of the girls and they breathed heavily, so heavily that the retreating vampires detected that there were humans in there. They rushed back to the house and smatched the door into pieces, some broke in through the window, shattering the glasses into pieces. Natasha and her friends screamed in terror, they ran into the kitchen and locked the door. But the vampires kept hitting against the wooden door.

"Is this the end of our lives? Is this how we're gonna die"? Natasha cried bitterly with terror. They all cried as the laughters of the Vampires and the loudness of their banging against the door terrified them. The door was splitting apart gradually. Natasha and her friends kept screaming helplessly.

"I don't want to die"! Zayna screamed. With continuous tears running down her cheeks as she cried bitterly.

"We're gonna die! We're dead"! Thomas cries out.

"Is this the end of our lives? Death by monsters"?! Damian cries. They all sit on the floor and hug each other, with eyes tightly closed. The vampires finally destroyed the door and rushed into the kitchen, devouring them with their claws and sharp long teeth. Blood was spilled all over the kitchen. They tore them into pieces, dividing their heads from their bodies and eating their flesh and leaking their blood.

The vampires kept feasting on all their victims in the neighborhood...

The End.
