Imperial City at Trust Hospital in morning,

Seren knocked on the door before entering. When she heard the voice of come in, she entered the office as she greeted, " Did you call for me director?".

Director Dr. Andrew Corden gestured her to sit down as he asked, " Have you thought about a way to save that child?".

Seren replied, " I was going to come meet you regarding this matter anyway. I'm already done thinking. As the consultant doctor I recommend to proceed with the artificial heart surgery".

Director asked, " Dr. Seren please explain how are we gonna face the problems in front of us".

Seren explained about her plan of adopting the child and then paying for his expenses.

Director asked, " Dr. Seren are you sure about adopting the child? I don't want you to take this decision under conscience of being a doctor and saving your patient no matter what. You still have your life ahead".

Seren replied, " I am willingly adopting the child because I want to be his guardian. Also I wish to save him and help him give a new life".

Director said, " If you are willing to do it then I'm sure you must have thought about it. If you ever need my help then please let me know".

Seren replied, " Well I do need your help director. I would like to make my own team".

Director asked curiously, " Team?".

Seren replied, " Yes director. As you know that till today there have only been one artificial heart transplant surgery in our hospital so its still new for all the other doctors to take up this surgery. For the surgical staff, I would like if I get the authority to choose the doctors in the team. I don't wish to make any mistake regarding this surgery as there are many risks for this surgery. According to the time it will take 8 hours for this surgery but as the patients condition has worsened so I don't think we can keep him on anesthesia for long given his young age. Also as this a very rare operation so it would be best if we have experienced and skillful doctors who are fast and precise in their work on our team".

Director thought for a moment as he replied, " Are you sure you can save that child if I give you the authority?".

Seren replied, " I'm not sure whether I can definitely save that child. But I would like you to trust in my skills as a doctor. I will try my best to make that child live healthy again like other kids".

Director replied, " Fine you can have the authority".

Seren said, " Thankyou director. I'll take my leave" and got up.

Before opening the door the director called her as he said, " Dr. Seren keep up that confidence of yours till the end. I am trusting that child in your hands as I want to see him lively again".

Seren replied, " I will try my best to do so" and left the office.

Seren met Caleb on her way towards her own office. Caleb greeted her, " Hello Dr. Seren".

Seren didn't reply and went forwards. Caleb was used to Seren behaving aloof to him like that but still he felt bad every time she avoided him. He was standing at the same place where he was with an gloomy face.

Seren remembered something as she looked back at the man who was standing facing his back, " Dr. Caleb".

Caleb heard Seren calling him and he turned with a broad smiling face only to hear Seren say, " Please meet me at conference room in 10 minutes".

Caleb replied, " Yes Dr. Seren" but Seren had already left without bothering to reply. Caleb felt happy that Seren was herself calling him. He was in a good mood now.

Seren went to her office and called Kevin. Kevin entered the office as he asked, " What happened boss?".

Seren was organizing some files when Kevin came in. She replied still in engrossed in her work, " There'll be meeting in 10 minutes at the conference room. Please can you help me ask Chief to come there as well. And please call Dr. Jin and head nurse of cardiology department Mrs. Camellia too".

Kevin asked, " Do I need to come too boss?".

Seren stopped as she looked at the dumbfounded Kevin, " Did you become a doctor to do time pass? Of course you must attend it too".

Kevin left the room and went to Chief's office. He knocked on the door and entered as he said, " Good morning Chief. Dr. Seren is asking for your presence at the conference room. There'll be a meeting in ten minutes".

Chief replied, " I'll be there. You can leave".

When Kevin left the room.... the Chief - Dr. Richard Adams mumbled, " Is this a protocol to call your senior? She really thinks high of herself. Shouldn't she at least ask for my permission? Let's see what kind of important meeting is it that she didn't even bothered to follow the hierarchy".

Everyone was present at the conference room but Seren still didn't come. In some time Seren arrived there too with some files in her hand.

Chief taunted, " The person who made us come here was herself late".

Seren replied as she checked her watch, " The meeting was gonna be held in 10 minutes and I arrived right one minute before the scheduled time. Is it my fault that others came early?".

Dr. Jin who sensed the awkward atmosphere decided to change the topic, " Dr. Seren why did you call us here? Well I'm sure it must be for a patient".

Seren replied as she sat on a chair , " I want to ask a favor to all of you. As the consultant doctor I have decided to proceed with the 11 yr old male patient's surgery. I want all of you to be the doctors who can participate in the surgery".

Caleb asked, " Dr. Seren what about the expenses? Has everything sought out?".

Seren replied, " Please don't worry about it. I have already found a way to help that situation. Right now there's something more important we need to worry about. You all may have known that this is the second artificial heart surgery in our hospital so I'd like Chief to be the second lead surgeon for this operation as he was the one who did the first artificial heart transplant. And I hope if Dr. Caleb can be a great assistant surgeon to chief. I also need your help Dr. Jin in order to maintain the patient's stability and his vitals. As you know that the child is young and he is at stage D so it is a risk to keep him on anesthesia for long. I'll be the first lead surgeon with Dr. Kevin as my assistant surgeon. I would need help of head nurse Mrs. Camellia as the scrubber given your quick response and fast pace".

Chief asked, " So you want us to be on your surgical staff?".

Seren replied, " Yes. I would need your cooperation in order to save that patient".

Chief said in a mocking tone, " Let's say we be on your team. But what about the time? If you keep the child on anesthesia for too long then he might just go into coma".

Seren replied, " I'm already aware of that Chief and so I asked for you all who have exceptional skills. We need to lessen the time. This surgery takes 8 hours to complete but we have to do it in 6 hours".

Head nurse Mrs. Camellia said, " Is it possible for this surgery to end in less than two hours from its time?".

Seren replied, " I know that all of you present here are skillful and have great surgical skills and wide experience. All we need is fast pace. I am sure that we all together can achieve this if we help each other. Chief has already had an experience in this kind of surgery which will practically help us a lot. Dr. Caleb is fast and skillful with his hands. Dr. Kevin has studied about it and even has thesis prepared earlier. Dr. Jin is an experienced anesthesiologist who has been in the surgeries with less success rate. And head nurse has a lot of experience and knowledge regarding emergency situations. so do you all agree to be on this operation?".

Everyone said yes but Chief still didn't reply. After a moment Chief asked, " When are we scheduling the surgery?".

Seren replied, " Next week. We must prepare ourselves in these 7 days".

All discussed the details about the patient's condition and the surgery. Seren had already prepared a draft at last night.

After the meeting was over Chief said, " Fine then. Let's all get back to work".

Chief Dr. Richard Adams left the conference room. As soon as chief left Dr. Jin spoke, " I didn't expect chief to be on the same team as Dr. Seren. And he also agreed to be the second lead surgeon".

Seren commented, " Chief isn't someone who can turn a blind eye to his patients even if he hates me much more than his enemy" and left the room too.

Kevin followed her to the office. As soon as he entered inside he started shouting, " Boss how can you ask me to be your assistant surgeon? I am just a 1st year resident. I have only had helped in surgeries to do minor sutures till now".

Seren replied, " Then consider it as your first surgery".

Kevin grabbed a chair to sit as he said, " Are you kidding me boss? This is an important surgery. How can you just ask an inexperienced resident like me to assist you in the operation room?".

Seren replied, " Do you don't believe yourself?".

Kevin said proudly, " I believe myself more than boss".

Seren replied, " Then continue to believe yourself. It's your first surgery to assist on so prepare yourself very well. The reason to choose you was because you had done a deep study in artificial heart transplant. Also don't stress yourself thinking what if you mess up. I am there if you mess up something".

Kevin said, " Boss you really sound like a mother right now who assures her child with her presence".

Seren replied, " Of course. If you mess up then I'll help you witness your funeral from heaven cause you would no longer be alive to watch it from earth".

Kevin whined, " Boss are you trying to give me a chocolate first and then funeral?".

Seren asked, " What kind of shitty sayings are you saying? Where did you hear that from?".

Kevin replied proudly, " It is said by the great Dr. Kevin Matt".

Seren got up and leaned closer towards Kevin as she flicked her finger on his forehead making Kevin groan in pain.

Kevin said, " Ahhhh..... boss. Why did you hit me?".

Seren replied, " To make you come out of your fantasy. Stop imagining weird things. It's not good there. Now go and do your work. I'm busy".

Before leaving Kevin asked, " Boss should we push your scheduled surgeries forward as you need to focus on this surgery. It's your first time too dealing with an artificial heart".

Seren replied, " Now I remember. My schedule is really pack this week. But we can't delay with those surgeries too. Don't do anything about my schedule. I'll manage it".
