Chapter 23 ( getting to know each other 2)

ROWAN'S POV

walking into my room with Eric behind me, I just had a long talk with my father about the French men and I was exhausted and needed a Good sleep but we were not done with the search so I couldn't sleep. " am exhausted"

I watch Eric pour water into a cup from the jug and handed it over to me " we both are " I took the cup from his hand and immediately drank to the very last drop then gave it back to him. I made my way to the window looking into the night sky like I always did, doing so helps to calm me down. They were not many stairs in the sky

" The sky is sad," I said as the thought of Natalia hit me

" Pardon?" I heard the confusion in Eric's voice, I turn to look at him and gave him a small smile then went back to looking at the sky

" it's just something Natalia will say " I sad and there was a sudden silence. After a long time, I turn only to find Eric standing there watching me with a weird smile, " what's the Mattar I asked with an eyebrow raised

" you have a thing for Natalia don't you," he said, taking me by surprise

" Excuse me I do....." He cut me off

' don't you dare say you don't" he warned " since she stepped foot into Bengland you've always asked questions about her, at first you sounded like you didn't like her but now I don't know anymore, you always what me to know how she's doing, you think about her a lot and I know because you can't keep your thoughts inside and you wanted to go for a ride with her "

" What is wrong with going from a ride," I asked trying to hide my feelings, I knew very well that I liked her because other than Eric I have never felt comfortable with anyone, not even my sister till I met her, she was unique and I liked that

" Everything, Rowan when was the last time you went for a ride just to get fresh air "

" I don't like Natalia," I said to him and he raised an eyebrow at me

" I am your friend Rowan, your only friend to be exact. I know you "

" No, you are not my friend, you are my servant," I said walking toward him with seriousness but Eric Knew I was joking, just trying to make him shut up

" That hurts, but I know it's a lie, and one day you will admit that I am not only your friend but your only friend. Possibly be the day one of us is dying and my last word to you will be ' I knew I was your only friend, and you do like Natalia" his words made but of us laugh and I sat on the bed looking at my friend " she is pretty isn't she " he didn't mention her name but I knew who he was talking about

" yes " finally admitting " yes she is "

" So she is the one," he asked and I looked down

" I would have said yes but she said she wasn't interested in marrying me "

" she said that?" I heard the shock in his tone

" surprising isn't it," I asked him

" indeed" he relied on an eyebrow raised " what lady won't want to marry prince Rowan "

" Natalia " I relied on as the thought of her made me smile

NATALIA'S POV

" It looks like you already won Rowan's heart, " Ella said interrupting my thoughts

" Pardon?" Surprised by her words

She finished folding my last cloth and came to sit next to me " I said you already won Rowan's heart "

" What makes you say that "

" oh come on, Natalia, am a lady and I have eyes, you two have a thing for each other "

" No, no, no, you got me all wrong, I think he is handsome like damn handsome but nothing more "

" you stand straight when he comes around " I raised an eyebrow confused, " you didn't know didn't you " she was shocked that I didn't know I did that

" are you serious?' I asked

" yes, earlier today, when we went to see the king, while we stood at the front of the door Rowan, appeared and I notice you lifted your shoulders taking it to the back a little, you stood properly and the same happened when he came to ask out " she explains and I didn't believe I could do something like that

" I don't believe you," I said

" why will I lie to you Natalia, you do it unconsciously" I was about to argue but was interrupted but the knock on the door

" who is it, " Ella asked

" it's Rowan " I was taken by surprise, why was he here " is Natalia in there, " he said again and I quickly got out of the bed that moment I notice that I was standing properly and I rolled my eyes at my action

" yes, I am " I replied. Ella quickly went to open the door

" Your Highness" she greeted, I noticed Rowan scanning the room to find me and a small smile appeared on his lips when he saw me and our gaze met

" may I " he requested to come in and I nodded in response. I watch him take away his gaze and walked in

" Emma, you can go, " I said and she nodded giving me tombs up making me roll my eyes and she walked out shutting the door behind her "so," I said to Rowan before sitting at the edge of the bed

" you two seem close," he said, I gave him a confused look telling him that I don't know what he was talking about " I mean your servant "

" oh, Ella is nice and sweet, apart from the fact that she makes me wear does dress that is honestly uncomfortable to be in all day and complains about me talking too much, or walking or standing and she says I am destructive and I wonder how she knows so much about me when I only just came here like...." Immediately covered my mouth realizing that I was talking to far

" just came?" He gave me a confused look

" sorry that was a mistake," I said smiling

" you do talk a lot " I rolled my eyes at him

" don't blame me, people like us have to learn to survive, and in doing that you need to know how to talk, like a lot

" survive what " my eyes fall wide open realising what I said again

" oh, you know, I sneak out of the castle a lot and I most of the time get myself into trouble, so I learnt to talk and also run away "

He smiled " that sounds fun "

" Trust me it's not," I said shaking my head " what about you and Eric " his face brighten as I mentioned Eric's name

" Eric and I have gone through a lot together, he saved my life severely and he has provided to be someone I can trust "

" I see" nodding my head " you don't trust a lot of people do you " there was a very long silence, between us, it was made clear that he was not going to answer my question

" do you?" He threw another question at me " do you trust people" I thought of his question for a while not knowing how to answer

" yes, but it depends"

" how " asking for more explanation

" It is easier to trust dishonest people, Why because you already know they can hurt you and you will be prepared when they do. But honest people are much harder, you can't tell what is in their head, so you can trust them by making sure they are kept in their place and while some have proven to be trustworthy no Matter what, like Eric for example " I explain " so I trust everyone but each in different ways "

" wow " he sound amazed

" as King, you will have to risk trusting people," I said

" that is something I fear, " I said in a low tone and we were taken by silence. We remained quiet till I got uncomfortable and said

" So why have you come to see me " calling him out of his thought

" oh, mmmm, I wanted to know if you were free tomorrow," he asked scratching the back of his neck nervously

" No, why "

" I wanted us to go out again but just the two of us this time " I don't know why but I felt excitement inside me, not because of going out but because I was going out with Rowan, why was I excited about that

" that is great " I smile. This was a great opportunity to know him some more and if possible why out why he went missing or is it why he will go missing

" ok, I will take you to the field, it's really beautiful there " I nodded

" I can use the opportunity to learn how to ride a horse," I said to him
