'Mom and Dad,
How are you? Are you feeling well? How's Tyler? Is he doing well? I hope you're all good and doing well.
It’s been months since my last letter so I don’t really know how to start at all. But, I would like to inform you that I was released from prison after my first parole. Thankfully the judge was different from the court judge who sent me to prison, and the former informed me that due to the lack of evidence presented and that I hadn’t recorded any single misbehavior during my stay, I’d be able to redeem my freedom. Feels good to hear it, right? I finally am free. It’s been, 10 months, since I was released.
At first, I really wanted to go directly to you because I badly missed you so much, but I became afraid that if they saw me with you, I might drag you into another kind of trouble so I tried my best to look for any available job that I can do without being judged as I am an ex-convict.
Thankfully, I met this amazing and kind prison guard, named Brenda, who helped me to start anew. She gave me money and introduced me to her sister who owns an inn. Luckily I became one of the employees under housekeeping management. I was fortunate enough that I was able to learn from your field of work that I am stable now. The owner is so kind, she did not judge me based on my criminal record, and even the head of the housekeeping management praised me for passing the test.
I am grateful for the people around me who helped me. I am not earning much, but I have some savings and if it becomes enough, I will open a bank account.
Currently, I am staying here at a nearby apartment which is along the street from the inn I’m working. The rent is cheap, considering that it is spacious enough, and I have a roommate, which also happens to be my co-worker at the inn. However, I could sense that she’s hating me for some reason, although I could not pinpoint anything because I haven’t done anything towards her. Nevertheless, I’m hoping that we could somehow be friends.
To be honest, it’s hard for me to have friends in this kind of place, especially with my co-workers since they knew that I am an ex-convict. But Brenda’s spending time with me during her day offs so I don’t heavily think about it. Spending time with her distracts me from overthinking things, and hopefully, you’d get to meet her.
You do not have to worry about me here because so far I am doing the best I could to continually blend with other people here. I still am praying for your good health and if there’s anything you need, please contact me immediately with this number: +63995*****68. I won’t hesitate to help you.
‘Til my next letter. Stay safe, I love you!
Blaire A.’
“My… my daughter… Bennett, Blaire… she…”
Mrs. Andoreal couldn’t suppress her happiness while crying as she reads the letter sent to them by Blaire. Just like her, Mr. Andoreal couldn’t contain the tears of joy. They just received the letter a month after Blaire wrote and sent the letter, thus it’s been 11 months after Blaire got her freedom.
“Thank God that our daughter is finally free.” Mr. Andoreal said between his sobs.
“And she’s safe. Bennett, our eldest is safe!” Mrs. Andoreal added.
The couple was hugging each other, crying, and expressing their gratitude when their son came home. He was confused about the scenario that he witnessed so he asked his parents to which the latter handed him a letter written by his elder sister.
As soon as he finished reading, he ran towards his room causing his parents to shout his name.
“Tyler! Where are you going?!”
“Tyler!”
Both of his parents shouted at the same time. Tyler didn’t respond and searched for his phone that was kept in his closet immediately. He tried to dial the number that Blaire gave but unfortunately, he didn’t have enough credits to make a call.
“Mom, Dad. Could you spare me some change? I wanted to call Blaire”
His dad immediately handed him a bill so Tyler ran towards the nearest store to buy load credits. Upon returning home, he dialed the number immediately and put the phone into a loudspeaker.
All three of them were waiting as the call is connecting.
“Blaire Andoreal speaking. Who’s this?”
Mrs. Andoreal almost fainted as she lost her strength on her legs, plumping herself on the nearest seat to which her husband helped her.
“Blaire?” Tyler called as both his parents couldn’t speak out of shock.
The line became silent until they heard a silent sniff.
“H-Hey, is that you, Tyler?”
They were so happy that his mother wailed, calling Blaire’s name while crying. The father then said a prayer of gratitude as he heard his daughter’s voice once again. Tyler, on the other hand, is suppressing his tears but could not contain his smile anymore.
“Blaire! I missed you so much! How are you? Where are you now? Can I visit you?” He asked continuously.
Blaire laughed before speaking. “Hey there, young man. Chill, you sounded so excited”
“Of course, I am! It’s been months since I last heard your voice! By the way, you sounded so pitchy, your voice is now airy than last time. Did you recently lost your voice?”
“No. I just, you know, I barely speak for the past year so my voice became pitchy I guess. Or maybe it’s due to our phone call? I don’t know”
“I really missed you, Blaire! How are you doing there?”
“I’m doing well. How about you? How’s mom and dad?”
“Mom almost fainted and she’s about to cry,” Tyler said while looking at his parents. “And dad is trying his best not to tear up, he looked ugly as usual,” he added. His statement made his parents snicker, distracting themselves from being too emotional.
“Can we meet you, Blaire?” Tyler asked. His parents were also hoping that she would allow them to see how she’s doing.
Silence enveloped the call. Tyler was started to have his hopes down when Blaire spoke.
“I could only meet you this weekend. Are you free that day?” she said.
“Of course!” Tyler excitedly answered. He didn’t wait for the response of his parents since he already knew that they’ll clear all their schedules on that day just to meet their daughter.
“Alright, then see you this weekend,” Blaire said.
Tyler then asked her lots of questions, obviously wanting to spend more time talking to her so even though Blaire wanted to take a rest since she just came home after receiving a whole day's rest from Miss Margaret, she talked with her brother endlessly as she missed listening to his stories.
Blaire just received a whole day's rest since Mr. Sebastian had already left the inn after his three days stay. Margaret allowed her to skip work this day so she could fully rest after serving all the requests of Mr. Sebastian during his stay at the inn.
Their call was cut only when Tyler ran out of load credits so Blaire was the one who called afterward. Their call lasted until in the evening, even while Blaire was cooking food, they’re still talking. Tyler had lots of stories to tell her which she enjoyed listening to.
It was when Ginny arrived at the unit and Blaire was about to eat when the two decided to end the call.
Even though she didn’t get rest for the day, she thinks that she had recharged her energy after talking to her brother.
Now, she’s looking forward to the weekend so they could see each other personally.
