Suspicions and Questions

~~~(POV: Tesha Lacroix)~~~
~~~(Location: Kedwein, The City to the Easternmost Border of the Termal Empire)~~~

Lyatt Scott must be a genius when it comes to Alchemy... I've never in my life seen a Stasis Jar used in such a creative way before... White Tears are nearly impossible to harvest, and I've got the flower in perfect condition and a state that allows harvest on more than one occasion... It's been a very long time since I've had an apprentice, and Lyatt seems like a good choice.

His true talent doesn't sit with Alchemy, I can tell. The power that rolls off him tells me he's extremely powerful, and he's likely a fighter and warrior before he's a scholar and crafter. That's not saying he's not those things. He's just not those things first. My question is in his power and why it's so potent when it's coming off him...

He's got a lot of power sitting and waiting to be unleashed within him, and it's intimidating to me... I can't say that I'm not... "Ms. Lacroix... May I have a quest to unlock the Alchemy skill..." My eyes rise from the book I'm not reading, and I see a girl around the age of 17 looking at me. Her shy and soft voice tells me everything I need to know.

I see her move and squirm under my soft stare, and I'm intrigued on why she would want an Alchemy skill. Lyatt wanting one confused me at first, but after seeing his thirst for knowledge and power, I understood. Not this little girl. "Depends. What are you willing to offer me?" Since I'm the only one that gives Alchemy skill quests in the Eastern area of the Termal Empire.

It gives me leeway into making certain demands that wouldn't normally fly in other shops. Steeper prices and favors, and since having an Alchemy skill is valuable, the person themselves become valuable. Most never learn anything beyond the combat skills that can be unlocked with their classes. The truly successful players and NPCs get anything and everything they can.

She moves closer to the counter and sets a piece of paper on it. She slides it across the table and waits for me to pick it up. After seeing her embarrassment, I entertain her attempts. Seeing what's written on the paper makes me far more intrigued than I originally thought I'd be. She's one of the people that came in for the Alchemy puzzles I give out.

Offering the puzzles to the player population allows me to get my business around, and it brings in people with talent and potential while weeding out the ones that I don't want to waste my time on. "What's your name. I'd use Scan on you, but that's uncalled for at the moment." She nods her head and tries to gather her breath.

She's got a smart head on her shoulders if she could figure out one of the puzzles, but her social anxiety hampers her in more ways than one. "My name is Elizabeth Golding... It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Lacroix!" She ends on a high note, and I can't help smiling. She's got her own charm to her, and she has cute features that'd make a decent mannered boy fall for her.

~~~(Location: Western Forest, About 4 hours away from Kedwein)~~~
~~~(Time: 7:18 PM)~~~

While getting this quest over and done with is what I want, I'd rather not go any deeper into the woods at night than I have to. The reason isn't from lack of power or from fear. It's because Fungus Beasts only spawn during the day. At night it's a different monster that the forest sends. Going into the details is unnecessary, but I'll say this one thing.

Every forest is different in what it uses to defend its vegetation and animals. So I'm going to have to wait until the light from Libertas's sun is shining all throughout the forest in the morning tomorrow. It's not a terrible inconvenience, but anyone would tell you they'd want to get something important done right away.

Tesha Lacroix being my Alchemist teacher, has many more benefits than just learning the skill much faster. It comes with a title if I impress her. She'll officially name me her apprentice to the public, and I'll gain a reputation boost from it. The Termal Empire knows Tesha incredibly well, as do neighboring lands. She's that good at her job.
